I'm really bummed out today about that medical marijuana patient who was denied a liver transplant because he used marijuana to combat the nausea from his Hep C. He died on Thursday.
They said they'd reconsider moving him back on the transplant list if he completed sixty days of in patient drug rehab.
He didn't even have sixty days to live when they told him that.
I keep thinking about Bill Clinton slandering honest people with his "Cheech and Chong medicine" commentary.
Maybe Cheech and Chong should have spoken at Timothy Garon's funeral.
Both Obama and Hillary should be credited for (sort of) calling for a (sort of) end to the DEA campaign to kill off all the rest of the medical marijuana patients who aren't dead yet.
I wish they would do more than that, but Bill Clinton and Barry McCaffrey did such a thorough job of poisoning the country against marijuana and promoting the idea that marijuana literally is the root of all evil, it's probably not politically feasible to save TOO many lives from the ignorance and prejudice that abounds in this country.
So Hillary is really great at standing up to O'Reilly.
But the DEA -- that's a whole different story.
She says their priorities are wrong, but she isn't calling for a change in the federal law.
There's only one way to change their priorities, and that's to change the federal law.
If marijuana were not a Schedule I substance, then it would be harder to argue that medical marijuana patients should be barred from organ transplants.
See, people like to think that the marijuana laws don't really hurt anyone.
Sorry but this time there's a dead body and you can't argue that his death didn't hurt anyone.
Death by liver failure is one of the most painful deaths there is.
I, too, am totally disgusted the way that Hillary has been treated by the press. What do you think they would say if she sat quietly with her hands folded? I am disappointed, in a big way, that Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann tore her to bits. Chris Matthews has been disgusting for years, but I was totally disappointed with Keith Olbermann. I had admired him and the way he wasn't afraid to see the Bush administration for what it was. I don't even bother to watch him anymore. As far as Barak goes, I don't think that he has a chance to get elected. His wife, Michelle, goes around in jeans, speaking for him, spouting off remarks about how finally the US gets it right, when they decided to let a black man run. I don't have a problem with a black man becoming President...how about some time in the senate, before he decides to become President? I speak with a lot of men and they love Hillary.
Thanks, dog-walker. The posts are more fun to write if you have the sense that someone is reading them. I'm a newcomer to this blog, and it's nice to be welcomed by you.
Joan Walsh has written about how the sexism exposed by this campaign has been appalling and unacceptable. Yet her double standard is appalling.
Supporters of Clinton use directly sexist language, and suddenly she equivocates and splits hairs and doesn't even mention them by name.
Paul Gipson's coment was about sex organs. Gov. Mike Easley's comment used a homophobic slur and was an attack on Obama's masculinity. Keith Oblermann's offensive comment was violent and overly biased, but didn't mention gender directly (even if it was indirectly sexist).
Joan labeled Keith explicitly sexist and of high importance. With the others, suddently gender doesn't matter, "Well, on one level, of course he was...when it's wrapped in a compliment, it's harder to be harsh about it."
No Joan, you don't get to do that after all your strong proclimations. Nor do all the other people who declared everything else of utmost importance.
It's also notable that the majority of Walsh's post was about image and comments and impressions.
The actual policy issue - the gas tax - got the least amount of space and more importantly, Joan doesn't agree.
Hasn't she criticized Obama supporters for ignoring issues for images and feelings? Hasn't she said they have double standards?
Again, I don't expect her to be devoid of opinions and preferences, but as an editor and journalist, she is expected to make her arguments in good faith, not convenient dishonesty.
You sort of forgot one important part in your rant
about Whitewater...the Republican prosecutor Kenneth Starr found Hillary and Bill innocent of any wrong doing in Whitewater..... they even lost money on their investment. Susan McDougal went to jail rather than lie about the Clintons which Starr wanted her to do. Give it up, it's old news, already dug through and buried.
Thanks, Joan!
Listen up, Keith Olbermann.
Tracy Flick has balls…
Hillary Clinton has balls…
Just don’t ever suggest that either of them should be taken into a back room and only HE would come out.
Because “ sexism rankles most when it's used to discriminate or belittle; when it's wrapped in a compliment, it's harder to be harsh about it.”
Or when the “compliment” is a stupidism uttered by a partisan hack in support of a chosen candidate.
Who knew????
Next up on Salon, a thinly-veiled partisan screed praising Barack Obama that will surely include the line: “Wow, that’s mighty white of you”.
All Joan needs to do now is find the person on her staff able and willing (despite her obvious orders to date) to write the thinly-veiled Obama partisan screed. No easy task.
C’mon Joan, that’s why they pay you the big bucks. We all know you have the, uh..., Big Brass Fortitude to do it.
Wasn't her Fox appearance a knockout? What a format for her. I wish she and Barack could have a session like that. I don't know why I haven't heard more about his refusing to debate in N.C. It seems like that could have been a major positive for her. (Running scared from a woman doesn't look good south of the Mason-Dixon.)
I'm not a Barack hater. I'm just feeling sad that the country is not going to get to benefit from Hillary's gifts. Ironic to think that he wouldn't even be in this race if Wright and Bittergate had been known by Iowa voters and others later. And the way her campaign blew the caususes. Someone explain to me why the superdelegates are committing to him now, now that he's weakened, looking very vulnerable to the Repubs, and she is in fine form and going up in the polls? Is it just pure Clinton hatred? There may be a lot of regret come November.
