Letters to the Editor

@ Joan
Probably because I'm feeling besieged.
Because I find the very notion that Obama was compelled to say these things to be an net loss for liberalism and liberal values.
I don't know if Obama is "outraged" or not, but I suspect his feelings and opinions are far, far more complex than he lets on in the quotes you've provided.
I refer to your pitchfork because, as I see it, you and all the others who have fed on this "controversy" seem to have succeeded in making Obama jump through the hoop and flap his fins for you.
Again, I understand how American politics works, I'm just dismayed that you, as someone who seems to believe in the values of liberalism, would be leading the charge to dumb down the conversation through these race-baiting, guilt-by-association, divide and conquer tactics.
When I say "congratulations on your moral victory," I mean to say that I don't understand why you seem so invested in this outcome where Obama does the pandering he's expected to do.

Glenn Greenwald's post is brilliant
Yes, Greenwald does very slyly -- but directly -- mock Joan Walsh and Salon in his piece on Wright today.
Good for you, Glenn.

Obama made this election focus on judgment and personality
Hillary would rather talk policy.
His mistake, but he doesn't have experience or policy to offer. Now his judgment is discredited, and his personality isn't looking so nice.
-
Just a point..
This is another wink...wink job by Obama. As he did with NAFTA and Canada.
Pandering aside (Clinton and McCain are certainly guilty of it as well), NAFTA is a good idea. Open borders with our biggest trading partner has provided us with lumber, electricity, and oil. Regardless of where you stand on environmental issues, there's no doubting that the United States has an enormous demand for these resources, and its better Canada than Russia, Venezuela, and Saudi Arabia.
If you want a "wink, wink" job, just ask the other candidates about the gas tax "holiday".
-
Now that that's settled...
can we please hear from Hillary Clinton how she can run as a "strong woman" candidate while serving as her philandering husband's doormat? When did she realize what kind of person he was? Why didn't she leave him during the Lewinsky brough-ha-ha? Does her lack of judgment about his character mean she will exhibit a similar lack of judgment in the Oval Office? Why hasn't she renounced him? I mean,really, let's be fair about this.

I think I will wait for the full text before I say much more than . . .
Obama is doing the politically expedient thing. He cannot win in November, indeed he might not even be nominated, if he does not succeed in distancing himself from Wright. It amazes me that so many Obama supporters have been so slow to realize that.
I am a little puzzled that he now claims that Wright is so different now than he has been in the past. Is he hinting that Wright is suffering from some sort of new POV due to senility. Wright seems quite in charge of his own faculties despite some of his odder statements about AIDS and the brain structures of of black people. Many otherwise intelligent people believe weird things.
I wonder what people are going to pick on Joan Walsh about now?

How DARE Glenn Greenwald Parody Joan Walsh -- THAT'S MY JOB!! (And Carol Richards of course!)
That wacky libertarian Glenn Greenwald is parodying his own editor!
"Why the Jeremiah Wright story deserves more attention"
Some problem-plagued nations could ill afford to devote so much time and energy to a matter of this sort. Thankfully, the U.S. isn't one of them.

Doesn't he know that making fun of Joan is the job of her aggrieved readers here in the letters section, and those of us over at Salon: The Parody?
He's got a lot of nerve, that Glenn!!!

@Xrandadu
Don't apologize! Your rant was great. I wish I had posted something similar on one of my Formerly Favorite Blogs that now focusing on Obama and how he's too much of a politician ... or he's a rookie and not political enough ... or that he now should throw Wright under the bus ... or OH NO he DID throw Wright under the bus! Shame on him!
This is getting effing ridiculous.
And when you ask, "So, will you all vote for Obama in November IF he wins the primary ... instead of voting against your own self-interest?"

@myiq2xu
myiq2xu: "Hillary would rather talk policy. His mistake, but he doesn't have experience or policy to offer. Now his judgment is discredited, and his personality isn't looking so nice."
Actually, Obama talks policy very well, with detail, thoroughly. Obama doesn't focus on "personality" -- what do you mean? As for judgment, yes, both Clinton and Obama have brought up judgment, since that's what people look for in a leader. Obama has shown his judgment again and again. He showed his judgment on the war. He's shown his judgment in the exceptional way he's run his campaign, with long-term strategy that has worked. And he's shown his judgment in handling the Rev. Wright controversy, as he did today when he took a firm stand separating his view from Wright's. Sorry, but you're not going to turn a net gain into a net loss by pretending this doesn't matter the day after you and other Clinton supporters were loudly declaring it mattered most of all.

Judgement
Seems to me that this whole Rev. Wright episode is a huge example of "Bad Judgment" on Obama's part. I don't believe Obama ever subscribed to any of Wright's ideas. But the fact that he wouldn't disassociate himself sooner really makes me question his lack of judgment. I don't think he handled this whole episode very well at all.

I'll be so glad when the Primary is over and the loud mouthed TROLLS
supporting both candidates, who feel compelled to rant/fling insults about every little perceived slight to their favored candidates supposedly perpetrated by Joan Walsh, the rest of Salon or anyone else, crawl back under their rocks or bridges.
The letters' sections have become unreadable.
You guys SUCK!

@Xrandadu and @CCinNC
Oops, I should preview my posts:
And when I asked the commenters on one of my Former Favorite Blog, "So, will you all vote for Obama in November IF he wins the primary ... instead of voting against your own self-interest?" I got crickets.
