@cynical
I've been watching CNN (I know, I know...I really shouldn't be, but I'm weak sometimes :) and they're framing today's events in a very interesting manner. They're playing it in almost Soap Opera terms, it was a personal and painful split for Obama. That his hand was forced by someone whom he respected and it obviously causes him pain, but make no mistake about it, he's split with him.
In a way I think this kind of framing is a stroke of luck for Obama, it frames this issue in a very favourable light for him.
Also, I think the repetitious "he was there for twenty years!" charge will get more and more muted. It really only had any (MINOR) validity when Obama refused to break with Wright. Now that he has so unequivocally it almost is rendered moot (not for the screaming banshees though...but let's be honest, nothing would be good enough for them). There just isn't any oomph to saying "Obama's ex-pastor just said something crazy again, why did it take so long for Obama to break ties with him?". When he can counter "He doesn't speak for me, we've gone over this - now let's talk about what we're going to do about housing, or gas, or inflation, or the dollar etc etc etc"
So yeah, politically Obama did the Wright (heh) thing today...in the greater scheme of things I wholeheartedly agree with my man "weeping". A mind far greater than mine and a pen far more eloquent then my humble scratchings.
