I was wrong about Wright

He is, in fact, a stunning narcissist, and it's clear he's sabotaging Barack Obama.

The letters thread is now closed.

A stunning narcissist?

I guess it takes one to know one.

Evidently...

...Hillary Clinton is PERFECT. If you want to at least maintain the illusion of being a balanced voice - could we at least have some review of what's wrong with Billary's campaign as well????

The best the left can do: The Rev. Wright Blog

Why is this an important issue, Joan? Clinton talking about incinerating men, women and children in Iran for things their unelected leaders might do doesn't get a single post, but you promise to keep on Rev. Wright in the coming weeks as Democratic voters reject it as important.

Who cares if it was a political calculation gone wrong? I think you made that point more than once. What about Clinton's own words re Bosnia, her Iran statements, her Iran vote, her Iraq vote, her penchant for censorship, or her clearly political relationship with "the family?" It's not like any balanced person has a dearth of material for both candidates when it comes to bad political judgment.

It seems to me that you are not just a myopic Clinton fan who believes she's a journalist, but that you are so angry by being called out that you are going deeper into the territory of insanity, just to punish Obama. Ironically, your angle in this post puts you and Wright in the same camp: "it's clear he's sabotaging Barack Obama."

"Smart cultural analysts...."

Like who--Camille Paglia? You can dress up your stringing out of the Wright scandal as some kind of high-minded analytical exercise all you want. But when it comes down to it, all Salon is doing is scandal-mongering. Doesn't the mainstream media do enough of that? Aren't there more substantive issues to be covered? Do we really care that much about the Democratic horse race when it's basically over? Are we morons? Why do we read Salon? What a crock!

Bodes badly for General Election

Fans of Obama,

Look past your love of Obama and pretend you are a lunch bucket democrat or a swing voter. No way would you vote for Obama with Wright in his corner.

Sorry, but Wright acts like he is trying to prove that blue collar white people are prejudiced and won't vote for a black candidate - by scaring the crap out them - or he's a closet Republican.

Whatever his agenda is, it hurts Obama in the General Election.

I'm being serious

If this whole Wright issue must be addressed within the frame of, "What does Barack need to do in order to mitigate this", I honestly don't believe there is much he can do. He can craft reasonable responses and distance himself in the way he has been, but I predict that none of your analysts will agree on a move he could make that would be great and really help him step out from under a media that insists upon this frame.

It would be like asking what Hillary would need to do to mitigate her claiming bullets were fired at her and then saying she had forgotten that she was not fired at...fortunately, her statements are not considered all that bad and she doesn't face that frame. But if she did, there would be nothing to make it go away.

I'm not saying it won't be interesting to hear expert opinions on how Barack might help himself, but I'd rather try to understand if this issue really warrants our scrutiny. If this is going to be a Roveian wet dream, I'd rather address why he gets to frame it rather than accept his rules of engagement.

done with it

I'm too depressed and annoyed to keep up with this crap any more. Congratulations, America, our overstuffed, anti-democratic, serially ridiculous election system has managed to break my heart and my will. Wake me when we inaugurate the next war criminal.

Joan

How can you be stunned by the fact Black folks poke fun at White folks dancing, clapping and talking...It's a national pastime...I guess you haven't seen any Black Comedians in the last 20 years...Have you not seen the movie "Stupid White Bitches"...It's soooo funny...It's about these White chicks that are really dumb and slutty where a couple of Black dudes paint their skin and dress up as and act like Dumb Blonde Whores...It's a hilairous and accurate portrayal of White women... I'm pretty sure some White dudes will make a similar comedy called "Dirty Black Ho's" that will be just as funny...Oh wait, for some reason people don't like this movie idea as much as me...Hmmmm, how can that be...They loved "Stupid White Bitches" but they seem to have a problem with "Dirty Black Ho's"...I don't get it...

Pride Goeth Before a Fall

Pr 16:18 “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

Wright should have followed this proverb. I think that we just got a Hail Mary pass for Hillary courtesy of Rev. Wright.

@odog

The movie was called "White Chicks". Nice job fabricating something to bolster your specious point, though. Top notch.

"a stunning narcissist"

Come on just say it Joan, he's a holy roller!

Monday, April 28, 2008 04:27 PM

Listen to him ...

I don't believe that Wright should be linked to Obama by anyone. That said, listen to Wright and see if you don't have an emotional reaction to him that has nothing to do with Obama. He intends for his speech to get a reaction from his audience, just like Rush Limbaugh does. I listened to him today, and could not believe what I was hearing. He doesn't back away from the more incendiary of his positions. His way of communicating provokes attack. He is the opposite of Obama -- he promotes divisiveness and misunderstanding between different groups. He gets attention because he expresses views so outside the mainstream, and the Obama campaign has given him a national platform that he has readily used for his own purposes (not Obama's). None of this has anything to do with whether Obama would make a good President, but acting like Salon or other media outlets should just ignore the guy doesn't make a lot of sense. I do note, however, that its hard for me to imagine how one could be the person Obama says he is and comfortably sit through Wright's sermons week after week for 20 years.
