Why Jeremiah Wright is so wrong

I applaud Bill Moyers for being fair to Obama's pastor, but their PBS hour won't chase questions about his grim view of America. Plus: More Wright tapes emerge.

The letters thread is now closed.

rufus, dude

Look, a lot of us are fed up with Salon, but you need to limit your posts. Combine those thoughts into one, or at least limit yourself to two per hour.

Flooding the zone does not make your point any better, it just makes you look insane.

Whoa!

WAIT a minute! All this hubris over Rev. Wright and NOTHING about the bigots who run the largest evanlgelical mega churches in the US? There are plenty of tapes of them, saying very dubious and bigoted things. Where is the media attention on these guys? They certainly drive a much bigger section of the citizenry, and encourage acts against women, homosexuals, people of color, the poor (of all colors), and various other folks as they justify themselves. Write about these men Salon!!

I think the real issue at hand is the catholics losing their power/starnglehold

"The prophetic theology of the black church is not only a theology of liberation; it is also a theology of transformation, which is also rooted in Isaiah 61, the text from which Jesus preached in his inaugural message, as recorded by Luke.

When you read the entire passage from either Isaiah 61 or Luke 4 and do not try to understand the passage or the content of the passage in the context of a sound bite, what you see is God's desire for a radical change in a social order that has gone sour.

God's desire is for positive, meaningful and permanent change. God does not want one people seeing themselves as superior to other people. God does not want the powerless masses, the poor, the widows, the marginalized, and those underserved by the powerful few to stay locked into sick systems which treat some in the society as being more equal than others in that same society.

God's desire is for positive change, transformation, real change, not cosmetic change, transformation, radical change or a change that makes a permanent difference, transformation. God's desire is for transformation, changed lives, changed minds, changed laws, changed social orders, and changed hearts in a changed world.

I think the real issue is the cathlocis seeing their dwindling numbers. seeing a rise in protostant churches or non-catholic churches. And they fear obama follows the true leader of the church Jesus. Unlike the caholics who follow men, past and present. True christians follow Jesus. I feel the catholics fear their cult about to be wiped off the face of the earth. So they sabotage change.

we're still doing false narratives and broad charaterzations today, aren't we?

rebecalouise

Wow, you could be Michelle's biographer...Nah, as you stated you look too White...Michelle has gone from being one of 6 working class kids, to getting into Princeton/Harvard through affirmative action and scholarships to getting a high paying job and a 200,000 dollar raise due to her husbands election to Senate...All while being ashamed her country her whole adult life...She's probably ashamed since America hasn't done "enough" for her...Someone must have serioulsy pissed in this womens Corn Flakes...What makes sense, is that for her whole adult life she's been attending Trinity...Listening to the Rev and his Black Theology sermons...She's gone from Working class to elitist who whines about not being able to afford music lessons or camp for kids on a combined salary of 500,000 a year (excluding Barack's millions for his books)...You know, I can see her point some times...She's been done in real hard by America...

If Bill Moyers makes you look bad

If you are on the left, and are interviewed by ultra-liberal bill moyers, and following that interview, you look bad,...you got issues.

One of the more destructive comments from jeremiah wright is that the US came up with AIDs as a way to commit genocide against blacks.

I argue that that statemet is racist. Blatantly so.

If you follow a leader like that, I pity you.

Joan didn't make that claim, jeremiah wright did.

From Joan Walsh

Allene, I really value your insight. I'm just wondering if you saw Wright's NAACP speech or his remarks in DC today? Because it seems to me that he's not trying for cross racial dialogue at all. And I'm more convinced than ever he's trying to sabotage Obama.

Monday, April 28, 2008 12:46 PM

nah softdog. Joan is offened and "concerned. Without putting wrights words out there, it is propoganda

Just trying to give wright, and in turn barack as they are the same person it seems, the even ground they are owed. Otherwise this is all a waste of time. I'm sick of wasting time here. LEt joan ban me, like she has in the past, if she is so concerned. the gop is "concerned" about these statements. Let's put them out there and see what they are concerned about. Let's show their fascsit propgoandists faces. You can't softdog.

Somebody's got to do the heavy lifting. You cannot silence me, liek youc annot silence the internet.

I'm putting wrights speech on this site today. If the gop, clinton supportes included, have nothign to say, then what? do you softdog. Thjis site is done for today. I will use this forum to show you why joan and her bobbleheads are propogandists for profit. If you can hold on to yoru ego enough to indudge me for 5 more minutes.
