Blah blah blah blah Jeremiah Wright blah blah blah Barack Obama's pastor blah blah blah God damn America blah blah blah scary negroes blah blah blah blah vote for Hillary.
Whatever.
Guess you haven't heard but Obama has said he's attended these services as well...So based on your logic Obama is leading the "Nutty Preacher" race 2 to 1...
You know it is obvious that why this has been such a big issue is because it involves a Black candidate. Jeremiah Wright loves America more than Joan Walsh, if he had the courage to die for this country by joing the Marines. This is the same guy that operated on president Johnson during his time of presidency. IF ANY ONE SHOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT AMERICA, it should be him.
Why does America think it is always right? All america has done is police other nations without putting in place that those people are human beings too.Just imagine how it would feel if another nation say (IRAQ)invaded this country, and their Army told us where and where not to go, not only that, they killed our families and told us how we should live our lives. I Know that You would feel less human "right"?. This is exactly what AMERICA has done to iraq. "FISRT, THEY WERE INVADING IRAQ TO GET WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION, THEN THEY CHANGED PLANS. To grab as much oil they could possibly get, and leave the country without a leader"
GO AHEAD AMERICA, keep policing the world. may be we will feel much more safer if we keep fighting other nations.
Joan, when November has come and gone and McCain has won the presidency, will you be doing any introspection whatsoever? Will it even occur to you that the relentless petty, tangential obsessions of alleged "lefties" (geez, are you kidding?)like you will have helped cut the Democratic party at its knees and practically shoved independents into the arms of the Republican party?
No? I didn't think so.
I have tried to keep an openmind about all the comments that media and others are saying about Pastor Wright. But the bottom line is that everyone is only hearing small bits of the sermon from that morning. First, if the media would get the entire sermon and not the edited version you would understand exactly what Pastor Wright said that Sunday morning. Everyone is just trying to paint Pastor Wright as some rascist or UnAmerican. You all have no idea what kind of person he truly is. As he stated in his interview with Bill Moyers he is a pastor preching the Word of God to the people of God. Everyone is acting as though this is the first time that they have heard Pastor Wright speak. This man has been preaching for over 40 years, and all of a sudden you want to paint him as some UnAmerican. This man served time in the US Armed Forces. After 9/11/01 I beleive all American like Pastor Wright were angry, we all lost loved ones or someone that we knew on that day.
And for the record if you listed to his entire sermon on the Sunday he preached this so call "racist/UnAmerican Sermon" you will see pastor Wright took a quote from an Ambassador that was being interviewed on television, and the Ambassador stated that the roosters are coming home to roost. DO YOUR RESEARCH before you start to misquote or condemn someone you know nothing about.
I found Bill Moyers' interview with Wright to be interesting and substantive, much better than anything found on the broadcast or cable news networks. The only shortcoming I saw was that Moyers should have asked Wright about his views on the origin of HIV/AIDS, and whether he truly believes that the government played a role in its creation or spread.
That said, the Rev. Wright's sermons are not aimed or worded to please an upscale, white woman in San Francisco. His sermons are couched in the traditional wording and phrases of the black church. Frankly, I -- a midwestern, white man -- found the sermon to be accurate and courageous.
Salon is one of the best Web sites I've encountered, but Ms. Walsh's take on the presidential race has grown tiresome and grating. Her support for Sen. Clinton is too all-consuming, and has blinded her to other viewpoints. Enough already.
I think that Walsh's last two sentences (before the update) are right on the money. Wright is the kind of wounded radical who cannot accept incremental progress. It's understandable, but it won't play to the general American public. I wish he'd just keep his head way, way down and shut up for a while, so the rest of us could move ahead.
Maybe I'm wrong because I could barely get through the first paragraph, let alone the whole column, but I didn't see much mention of Jeremiah Wright's impressive military service, and how someone who has given and seen so much can maybe be entitled to some anger. Nah, Joan Walsh cares not for context or objectivity. Joan Walsh is just another meathead with a hatchet to grind. Shocking, I tell you, shocking.
You complained about two of the sources I cited -- just two and implied I found not others.
That makes you dishonest, indeed something to scrape from my shoe.
Wright might have a "grim view of America", but America is a grim place at this time. Soft pedaling the grim facts of an immoral war and a collapsing economy that is shedding jobs by the hundreds of thousands, as well as the persistent erosion of civil liberties will not improve our lot. Angry he may be, but so are a majority of Americans by any any poll one cares to cite; we are collectively convinced that our country is going in the wrong direction. Wright's language is coarse, perhaps, but he is right about American culpability and hypocrisy while wrapping itself in sheets of virtue; it is sickening that medea professionals skip over the argument he makes and concern themselves with the fact there's a black minister in Chicago who is saying what everyone already knows.
