Why Jeremiah Wright is so wrong

I applaud Bill Moyers for being fair to Obama's pastor, but their PBS hour won't chase questions about his grim view of America. Plus: More Wright tapes emerge.

The letters thread is now closed.

White supremacy perpetuates white supremacy

The whole Rev. Wright controversy is ridiculous. He told the truth and refused to sugar coat it. Whites hate the truth because this nation was founded on white supremacy and still exists based on it. That's why we're in the trouble we're in now. Whites hate blacks more than any other racial group of nonwhites. So it stands to reason that whites do not want to hear the truth from the descendants of former slaves. We have the high moral ground and whites are tired of being blamed for the sins of their ancestors but they don't mind still perpetuating the imbalance and inequity against blacks conferred on them through inheritance and nepotism over the centuries. It is hypocrisy and it is evil but whites do not care because whites believe they are God. That is why any mention of religion and whites is contradictory. White Christianity is all about sustaining white nationalism and global white supremacy because it tells white people that they cannot be wrong because they are the smartest people on the planet. White America collectively is seriously deluded and it will only worsen as races continue to mix and white birth rates continue to plummet worldwide. Only one in ten people on this planet are white. It is a crime against nature for whites to be in charge of everything and until whites stop being the spoiled violent brats that they are nothing will change. Frankly I am not hopeful. I believe mankind's best chance for survival will be either the isolation, marginalization or elimination of whites in power. Nothing else can save us.

WHAT YOU SAID!

if only obama could be honest of how not religious he is

I've gotten the impression that Obama knows religion is a farce. He goes to this church and really cares less about what they're preaching. Joan's acting quite conservative and scared for little reason.

Joan you are hurting me

Please stop!

Obama isn't slipping behind. He is being rational, humorous, and inspirational. Hillary Clinton is full of shit! Bosnia shipers?

Give me a break!

Please, I really like reading Salon. Especially Glenn Greenwald. But if you keep this up I will relegate this site to the trash bin because like someone's wife, you are making me SCREAM!

FOR GOD'S SAKE. Get a grip.

@SusanGSMcGee (to know if)

I can only encourage you to pay more attention to whatever is getting you to constantly lean towards Barack than to sexist comments by people who say they support him. This is not to minimize your concern about sexist and vile language.

My suggestion is based on my belief that there is simply no evidence that Barack has more sexist supporters than Hillary. I know that might sound silly because we don't see examples online or in conversation in which a sexist Hillary supporter blurts out their support in sexist terms! But that is part of the problem. I know very well a few people who support Hillary who have rather old fashioned views of women. But they don't qualify in your reaction because you are not exposed to them in your discourse. That makes sense that you aren't exposed, but it doesn't make sense to come across those awful Barack supporters and elevate their meaning without justification. No, if there IS justification for believing that Barack has more sexist support, I'm ready to hear it. It will matter to me. But this is the sort of thing that isn't as easy as our personal stories (even mine about the sexist Hillary supporters I know of)....

But you say that you keep leaning towards Barack and I wonder what that is about.

Bill Cosby's Pound cake speech

http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Pound_Cake_speech

"But these people, the ones up here in the balcony fought so hard. Looking at the incarcerated, these are not political criminals. These are people going around stealing Coca Cola. People getting shot in the back of the head over a piece of pound cake! And then we all run out and are outraged, 'The cops shouldn’t have shot him.' What the hell was he doing with the pound cake in his hand? (laughter and clapping). I wanted a piece of pound cake just as bad as anybody else (laughter) And I looked at it and I had no money. And something called parenting said, 'if you get caught with it you’re going to embarrass your mother.' Not 'you’re going to get your butt kicked.' No. 'You’re going to embarrass your family.'" - B Cosby

Now this is the speech of a concerned citizen of the community.

No excuse Joan - You Have Crossed a Line

Once again Joan has to backtrack after she leaves out a major fact in her eagerness to post something which fits her election narrative.

UPDATE:A reader notes, and I agree, that I should have said that Obama agrees with me that the problem in Wright's view is "that the possibility of redemption, the evidence that America can and has and will change for the better, is never considered." He's right, and so I added that after publication.

Oh bullshit.

If this were something negative about a Clinton supporter, you can bet Joan would have led with the anything which mitigates the issue.

Beyond that, Joan comes off as, I hate to say it, racist - the type of white person depicted in Stuff White People Like. I don't really like that blog because it's only about Latte Liberal Hipocrits, but this fits the profile:

As Wright described it to Moyers, America would seem to be all about dispossessing the Indians, enslaving blacks, interning the Japanese and now killing Iraqis. He said nothing about Americans who fought any of that (and nothing about white ethnic groups who also faced WASP prejudice).

God damnit, you did not just try use the "Irish were oppressed too!" argument to pretend Wright doesn't have a point! Give me a fucking break. A transitory and long gone discrimination justifies none of your bullshit. Especially as the Irish became White by screwing over the blacks. You aren't even fully Irish.

It is even greater bullshit to imply that Wright can't criticize America unless he includes white suffering.

There's something called the White Liberal Bingo card - http://pics.livejournal.com/ktempest/pic/0001r05g - and you Joan, have covered many squares in your obsession with demonizing Wright.

You essentially say the problems Wright talks about are the ancient past and don't matter anymore. No, that's true for the Irish in America, but not other groups.

Did you not notice the verdict which was handed in a non-jury trial this last week Joan? Are you that damn blind?

And it's transparently obvious why you need to demonize him:

a) it hurts Obama and you are a Clinton advocate who refuses to admit it.

b) you are determined to argue sexism is worse than racism.

I have lost all patience with you, Joan. You have been blinded by the biases you claim not to have and now you are just flat out offensive.
