Why Jeremiah Wright is so wrong

I applaud Bill Moyers for being fair to Obama's pastor, but their PBS hour won't chase questions about his grim view of America. Plus: More Wright tapes emerge.

@freebird (but her point is not that)

"Walsh slathers Obama with the fiery part of Wright’s rhetoric as if its Obama’s own rhetoric. I have been unable discern any of Wright’s rhetoric in Obama’s platform or speeches. Maybe Obama secretly holds these views and we are too dumb to understand it."

You are missing Walsh's point:

first imagine what it would be like IF Obama really was giving speeches just like Wright's sermons. Ok, you have to admit that would be a big problem.

Then imagine that Barack, even if he is not giving such speeches, secretly wishes he was; if that was true then Barack doesn't even have the courage to say what he really thinks. Barack would be a weak anti-American without the guts to even say that he is disgusted by our country's history.

But then imagine that Barack is just a normal, decent guy but that his supporters think of him AS IF he were just like Wright. Now, I think you see Joan's point.

If you take any of these three imaginations, you've got yourself a situation in which Barack is in trouble.

Rev Wright and Other Comments

Quite frankly who cares what Ms. Walsh has to say. It is apparent to me that she is a Hillary Clinton supporter, which is certainly her right. She (Ms. Walsh) essentially called K. Olbermann to the mat over his comment about ...taking Ms. Clinton in a back room..." Olbermann explained exactly what he meant. I understood exactly what he meant when he said it, and I'm certainly not as smart as Ms. Walsh. I was satisfied with Rev Wright's performance on Mr. Moyers show, however I'm an African American and I understand the Black Church, which obviously Ms. Walsh does not. No amount of explaning to her, or those like her will suffice. Why? because they don't really want to understand, they want to continue to press Senator Obama about an issue that is a non-issue. If you watched that interview and did not come away with a better understanding then I don't know what to tell you-I guess there is a true divide between African American's and White america's perception's-but then what's new? Ms. Walsh will continue to use her blog or video or whatever it is to disparage Senator Obama, and that's her right. Despite her efforts I think most main stream media realize without saying it that Senator Obama is the better candidate for America going forward. Senator Clinto brings the politics of lies, saying whatever she thinks she should say at the time, depending on the audience...I'm not sure if she's from Penn, or Arkansas or New York or New Jersey. As a retired military man I defended Mrs. Clinton for years (when I was in the military), for years I spoke on her behalf, I argued with soldiers about her. I am sad that Mrs. Clinton has turned into (of course many will say she was always this way) into a power hungry woman, willing to do, say, behave in any fashion to get what she and her husband want. Perhaps this is how Bill is paying her back for his tawdry behaviour of the past-lobbying on her behalf for President.

I served in the army for 21 years (Desert Storm; Opns provide Comfort; other contingency opns)-and from time to time I have a grim view of america as well. Gee, I guess that makes me

unpatriotic as well. Rev Wright served his country in Vietnam, more than Limbaugh (deferment), Cheney(deferment), and way over half of the phony uber patriot talking heads can say.

Joan, You Ignorant Slut

Now, that's a JOKE, (from back in the early SNL days, kids).

Rev. Wright tells the truth as he sees it. It's a free country, right? Oh, THAT's the joke! Joan, please climb down from your ivory tower and try to listen a little better to what us commoners are trying to say.

Totally disagree

Nice to see you are doing Hillary's work for her trying to discredit Obama.

It is the media constant obsession over Rev. Wright and the continuous recycling of this story that this the problem. Not Obama's association with the church. It is a blatant attempt discredit Obama through guilt by association. The majority of voters say it does not matter, Obama supporters are not disillusioned or less excited.

First I am in total disagreement with your assessment of the interview with Moyers. Rev. Wright came off as a very thoughtful, intelligent, pastor with an incredible knowledge of scripts and how it applies to the in injustices against blacks and other groups throughout the history of the world and YES, the United State government. That this exactly what his "god damn America " was all about. And He was right on. He was not condemning America, he was condemning injustice actions throughout history and how it is referenced in the bible. You missed the point of the sermon completely.

In regard to "the chickens coming home to roost"(a separate sermon.) As he explained in that sermon. He first heard this statement from a U.S. ambassador who was interviewed on FOX News after 9/11. He was making a reference to the use of revenge (the Iraq war) in response to 9/11, and scripture.

9/11 was revenge against our policies, the Iraq war was presented as revenge against terrorist, and he connected this to passages in scripture. He was speaking about the cycle of revenge, but not condoning it.

Problem is with everyone's analysis of Rev. Wright sermons. The entire sermon's still are not being shown, and you need a knowledge of scripture and the explanations & connections to bible phrases in his sermons to fully understand what he is really saying.

The whole Idea the black sapartistism is some how radical is racist. The Black Panther party was chacterized radical group in the 60s, but they also provided breakfast programs in inner city schools, when the government failed to do so.

Black Self help... They are damned if they don't, and damned if they do. By the way Hillary Clinton was on a team that defended Bobby Seal in the Chicago riot trials.

Rev. Wright taking interviews won't help Obama because like Joan, the media will continue to use snippets of what was said.

Yes, some of his vews are considered radical. Let's not forget the Rev. Martin Luther King, now consider as pastor of reconciliation, was considered radical in 1968 when he spoke out against the Veitnam war. The FBI kept extensive files on MLK, and he was considered unpatriotic by many conservatives.

I frankly agree with much of Rev Wright has to say in his sermons. Sometimes the TRUTH hurts.
