As the front-runner he shouldn't seem so peevish about tough questions. But Clinton missed a chance to recover from her Bosnia debacle.

  • Confusion

Joan, you're confusing "tough" with "stupid" and "irrelevant" questions. We need to know what kind of president Obama would be, not whether he loves America more than Wright. Any intelligent person would be irritated by such stupid questions. By defending this BS you're doing the Republicans' work for them, along with the mainstream media.

  • While the rest of the liberal world is applauding Obama for rising above...

why should we expect anything else but more Obama bashing from Joan Walsh.

Joan, you are becoming so predictable that you're a parody of yourself...and it's not even funny anymore.

Off to Huffington Post, Alternet, and pretty much anywhere but here to get some actual political news, instead of Salon's new Hillaryclinton.com identity.

  • I sure wish I could see..

    "What's hurt him."

  • 35000

Why don't you cover that 35000 came out to hear him tonight.

You all are very sick looking not at the big picture

  • For the first time ever

Obama got treated like a Democrat.

    Welcome to the club, Barack!

You better get used to it, if you want to be President.

  • Joan! Nixon's Debate Stumble supposedly, famously hurt him...

But I could not detect any stumble on Barack Obama's face. I am almost sure Barack shaved right before that debate.

[Do people have to be 50 years old to get this?]

  • I Don't Think He Stumbled

...I thought he showed a modicum of reasonable irritation that I think "most people" (where'd you get that?) could identify with.

I don't want nor expect a robot for president.

  • Incoming! Geesh Joan

Get your flack jacket on. You just had to go and wake up the Obamabots didn't you?

  • Call me crazy..

..but WHAT stumble are we talking about here?

  • virginity

Other probing question based on equally valid premise:

Does it matter that Joan is or is not a virgin?

    Go back to school Joan.

  • "Like most people, I think Barack Obama stumbled. "

Most people? For whom are you speaking? Stop being afraid of the Republican attack machine. I mean, I'm just gonn'a go all Sci-Fi, Dune on you:

    I must not fear.

    Fear is the mind-killer.

Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

    I will face my fear.

The voice of our national dialog will change.

    OBAMA 08

  • Presumptuous

It is no surprise that you personally believe Obama stumbled. I (and a lot of other people apparently) have the opposite assessment. Fine. But it's really presumptuous to write a column premised on the idea that Obama "stumbled" in the debate as if it were an objective fact. Who exactly are these "most people" you speak of who believe this? Your friends? The only thing I heard in the news is that people were "irritated" by ABC and the moderators, not by Obama. Read Glenn Greenwald's column about the public reaction to the debate. While you're at it, pay attention to what he says about how it's important that journalists use evidence to support their claims.

Sorry if I sound bitter -- ha -- but this column was so predictably disappointing.

  • Buahahahahahahaha!

This is the worst from Joan Walsh so far. It's not even worth refuting her "points."

Let's talk about dumb shit, Joan. That's a great way for me to spend my finite time on this Earth. Maybe you can assemble a stadium full of Iraq War amputees and ask them if Rev. Wright loves America as much as they do.

    Seriously, you are an idiot.

  • Stumble?

His only stumble was not emulating John Stewart on Crossfire. Journalism? Gibson & Stephanopoulos should be demoted to writing gossip columns for the supermarket-line rags. Or maybe they couldn't come UP to that standard.

  • Yes! It will! It must! Right, Joan?

Joan, you are STILL at it! Have you missed the nationwide outcry that this "debate" was a disgusting joke at the expense of the voters and did nothing else but lower the country's opinion of the media, if such a thing is possible? NO ONE GIVES A SHIT about flag pins, sixties radicals and Jeremiah Fucking Wright outside of the Clinton "campaign." GIVE IT UP, we're begging you ... that goes for you and Hillary. But at least you're not acting like a goddamned Republican, but merely a disappointed supported with a huge megaphone the noise of which is really starting to grate. Did you see your candidate's latest? MoveOn and activists are bad?

  • Sigh, you are so wrong

I'm a 47 year old women's libber who lives deep in red country.

But Joan, you are so wrong. I just don't understand it. I'd like to see one, just one, discussion of why Hillary should be elected. I've yet to see you address a substantial issue.

Frankly, I'm totally sick of politics as usual. I love when Barak directly addresses smears. I'm registered as an independant in Wyoming (meaning my vote NEVER counts). I did not declare a party to vote in the primary because I didn't care who won. In between the 2 weeks prior to the WY primary and the primary, I'd totally changed sides to Obama. Hillary and her mouthpieces do not care about progressive issues. They care about winning. Period.

In the last few weeks, this issue is more obvious than ever. Oddly enough, like the Republican who sits a few desks away, if my choice is Hillary and McCain, I'm not sure I can vote. Yes, my life long Republican office mate can't vote for McCain or Clinton, but will vote for Obama.

I've always thought better of you Joan.... Tell me what is good about Clinton, 5 policy issues!!! No nonsense about 3 a.m. calls (the start of her losses, playing the fear card caused me to lose any respect I had left for her.) What will she do for this county? Iraq? Will she take my hard earned money to bail out greedy jerks? (both mortgage lenders and lendees wanting a quick buck.) Will she regulate industry? corporations? financial institutions who are no better than the mob loan sharks of old?

As an end note, the blog roundup needs to come back. The five things list makes people lose respect for this site.

She is the problem. I'm a feminist and I greatly respect the women who made my life possible. But, I try to judge people by the content of their character and Hillary and Al Gore showed a lack of character by how they ran their compaigns.

  • What's this going to do for Hillary?

    Go ahead. Defend it.
