It seems to me that a lot of these comments are angry (and pouty) because -- supposedly -- Salon isn't pro-Obama enough. Jeez, if you want to read something that will only echo your own opinions, maybe you should GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Duh.
Maybe you should try Huffington Post (yes, in spite of that blogger with the sneaky microphone) or Andrew Sullivan. They can be counted on to give you all the Hillary hatin' you could ask for.
"You have correctly pointed out that the working class doesn't have much money anymore. I congratulate you upon your cleverness and also your astute suggestion that politicians should pander to people with money. To hell with the working class!"
While I assume you understood my point before you grossly misrepresented it, allow me to rephrase:
White working class people don't represent the totality of the Democratic party or progressive movement. Also, is self-defeating for Democrats or progressives to disparage other demographics for the purpose of elevating this group. Case in point, Obama's coalition is successful despite his apparent difficulty in prying white working class voters from Clinton. Perhaps her supporters should ask themselves whether her reliance on white working class voters (often to the extent of insulting other demographic groups) may pose its own general election liability.
I believe you are attempting to change the subject from Barack Obama's comments on hunting to a post I made last night in an entirely different thread. Although, now that you bring it up, there are similarities. The subject had turned to castration and I merely provided information on how it is actually done. I used an example of cattle.
Perhaps it is my working class origins that you object to. Educated liberals with comfortable incomes usually do not have work that involves castrating calves, nor to they usually have to hunt rabbits for food.
I don't think that it is good manners to ridicule the ways that people get their living whether they be strippers or writers of ranch hands.
People are driven by necessity to do lots of things to put food on the table, including sometimes killing it.
I also think that people who are running for office should not imply that the people whose support they are seeking are bigots or religious cripples or gun-toting rednecks.
Just my personal thoughts.
The image of Hillary taking a six shooter into a duck blind makes for a funnier joke.
Just saying.
perhaps what I object to is your trolling, as I stated.
Recuse yourself!
...Concern Troll. Seriously, that's how she should be introduced whenever she appears on TV. And honestly, Joan's rhetorical and analytical gifts should not get her on tv in the first place. Even on MSNBC, talking heads Rachel Madow and Eugene Robinson are better to listen to. But then again I am no friend to concern trolls in general. Maybe some people really love her.
[...] his slash-and-burn supporters are the worst of the old politics. I also think even some of his nicer, more well-meaning supporters represent another dead-end kind of old politics: the politics of liberal self-righteousness, where we know we're better than those benighted supporters of those other guys (or gals), and that cheers us, even if we can't convince a majority we're right.
The funny thing is that is exactly what I feel about a lot of Hillary's supporters. I've felt that her entire inevitability campaign exuded this elitist clique vibe (sorry). And Rebecca's "Obama Boys" article struck me in a similar manner. It seems to have alienated a few older women and some AA women as well, judging from the letters.
Ah, well, it's always easier to see the same faults in other people and other groups than in oneself and peers.
You write, "We are not pulling for any candidate, or trying to correct for any impression that we're pulling for any candidate. We're reporting the news fairly, and in our opinion columns, we're asking and trying to answer compelling questions other people aren't tackling." How do you spell delusional?
Dear Joan-
I have not heard anybody "blame" San Francisco for this whole "bittergate" nonsense--and nonsense it is! This is mainly a deal for the MSM who are having a slow news week and have caught on to this non-event to get the Clintons going and, therefore, alleviate their boredom--and the Clintons' too, I'd guess! My blame goes to the press who are playing this up, because I think they are truly excitement junkies looking for a "fix!" The Clintons are beyond hope. Too late to blame them! But why would a reporter, in good conscience, dangle a piece of raw meat (not an honest story) in front of hungry, angry wolves?
Maybe all of you need to get a life!
I was actually trying to get an answer from Kevin C who said: Annie Oakley would've used a six shooter. Thus the analogy is consistent even if there might be a duck blind in the middle.
I don't think he wants to respond because he is afraid I would refute him. Annie Oakley would not have used a six-shooter on small game. Why should she when she could use a shot gun? I am trying to picture a Wild West show in which Oakley blows small game to bits before an audience with a six-shooter. Sounds sort of brutal for the kiddies. Oakley knew the purposes of different weapons, but for entertainment, she used targets.and skeet.
As to Obama's joke, did he really mean it to be funny? It sounds rather snide. He does snide well.
However, I think it could actually hurt him with women who actually hunt. I have three nieces who hunt.
Uncle Fester, I'm sure you're right. There is a self-righteousness to all true believers, and clearly nasty Clinton supporters are driving some great Obama supporters round the bend on these threads. I'll think more about why they don't get under my skin as much as the nasty Obama zealots (aside from the reason that's obvious to the nasty Obama zealots, which is that I support Clinton!)
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
