  • Populism

Careful when you use this word. I'm old enough actually to have know some "old pops." They were what you in San Francisco call "red necks." The same type that a few generations ago you called Okies and Arkies. The ones I knew were in East Texas and in the '60s voted for Ralph Yarborough, but they had no brief for blacks.

  • AKASmith and trollops

Where I come from, trollops, unlike saints, wear that significator as a badge of honor. But you would not know that because Mary Magdelene is your forgiven patron saint. So lay off my Rufus, you hear? The Notorious WES has bound us virtually in un-holey matrimony and I am here to kick your ass if you pull that mumbo jumbo again of silencing anybody. But carry on if you must and will.

  • Who Was First?

Quote: "But never in my wildest dreams did I think you could mangle this sequence of intentionally silly, disconnected images into an argument about what kind of weapon you'd use to shoot ducks. As far as I know, Walsh is the first to try."

John McCain has made the same point. Not sure who made it first.

But, has Joan Walsh joined Hillary Clinton in working for John McCain?

  • The bitter difference...

...between this bitter editorial is bitterly obvious to an embittered public. Even a bitter bag of wind like Hillary Clinton should see the bitter difference between the bitter bunching of bitter bantering words here and the bitter ennui of the American people just bitterly speaking in the broadest banal and bitter sense of the bitter brew and of the bitter view of the shock of the old and the spark of the new...have a candy coated Hillary Clinton day, but vote Obama on election day.

  • lets give aka "peace" -

    yes he is "the messiah"!

  • Hey, Obama's flag pin is back.

Back in his lapel that is. It returned after the gaffe. But why?

  • How We View/Feel Insults: Human Nature

Quote: "After reading Carol's first question in this thread: I think it's a fair question, to ask why I'm more disturbed by Obama's more vicious supporters than Clinton's. I'll give it some more thought."

There's a very simple answer: human nature. We always feel more acutely the flames and insults that are directed toward ourselves and those we agree with as opposed to the flames and insults that are directed toward those we disagree with. The latter we observe as if through the wrong end of a telescope. The former come at us head-on like a runaway train.

And like I said: it's just human nature. It was true before this election, and it'll be true after.

  • Bittergate or Balderdash?

".....(H)e's still mostly the candidate of coastal liberals, lefty intellectuals, Ivy League check-writers and African-Americans....."

    Joan:

I really don't know what to make of this statement. The man won heartily in Iowa, in Kansas, in Montana (although people do write checks in these states as well)... he's been at his greatest disadvantage in the "lefty liberal coastal" states of California & New York.

While Obama's off-the-cuff comments seem to have given considerable offense to the coastal media elites, I can't see from the polls that they've gotten any real traction in the non-coastal, non-lefty, non-intellectual, non-Ivy-League, non-check-writing minority-free communities of Pennsylvania & Indiana, wherever those may be. Or even the lefty liberal non-coastal minority-intensive heartland city of Chicago, which I call home.

  • Polls: Obama expands lead nationally

    Posted: 04:18 PM ET

Obama expands lead nationally according the the latest CNN poll of polls.

(CNN)–Obama has expanded his lead from CNN's last national poll of polls, in which he had a 47 percent to 44 percent lead. (The last national poll of polls included surveys covering the period from March 24 to April 3.)

National Democratic Poll of Polls, April 7-15

    Democratic Voters’ Choice for Nominee:

    Obama 50

    Clinton 41

    Unsure 9

The national Democratic “poll of polls” consists of four surveys:

    -Gallup (April 13-15)

    -ABC/Washington Post (April 10-13)

    -Reuters/Zogby (April 10-12) and

    -AP-IPSOS (April 7-9).

The poll of polls does not have a sampling error.

  • At any rate

    From state to state

    Bittergate

    Is in a shabby state.

Because you don't win elections with worthless spin.

Because people really DO feel bitter now and then.

  • The labels and barreiers they use to divide wjcordier.

They will not listen or be reasoned with.

The goal is divide and conquer. Like with the gop, divide and division is clinton's only hope.

Let's pray america is not a nation of dittoheads. I think we have truned the corner. I think people are starting to think for themselves and shunning the propogandists media. The only reason cnn, msnbc ( not counting olberman of course :))and headline news, still has ratings is there are no choices. Other than one or two shows it's all propgoanda. Which station or site is more news and facts than propognada? That is a personal decision. But we have no choices. It's all fox all the time.

that will change. AFter the election when the media renders itself irrelevant, liek fox is now, they will be forced to change. When their lies parsing of words and false narratives have no effect, they will be forced to change. only then will they start acknowledging reality. Hopefully we can get enough people to say screw the media, and stand by our guns.

We can't change the media from the outside, that much has been made very clear. What we can do is hold them acocuntble for their words. Hopefully Olberman takes over nbc then america gets one real NEWS station. They would black out everyone and only then would the propgoanda for profit change. The only way to beat them is to not listen to them, or believe them. Make up your own mind on the issues and the garbage. Cahnge the channel.

the people who say they are voting for or against candidates based on the media are fools or liars. don't believe their attempts to take yoru vote. Your vote is yours. Vote for whoever based on whatever criteria. But leave the propogandists for profit out of the process, with their lies and false narratives.

  • @ rufus 11

Obama is me. I am a white man. To me, I can only speak for myself, he was what I could have been if everythign worked out.

Ah. You coulda been a contender. That's sad. Not all dreams work out. But you can ride that Obama dream.

If I did better in high school ,and tried more, maybe i could have went to college. Maybe I would have excelled. MAybe I could have gotten into harvard law.

The saddest words of tongue or pen ... it might have been. I am so sorry that your dreams didn't come true. I am sorry for all the people with dreams that have not come true.

Do you think Obama can heal that wound?

Also I am a basketball player. One of the reasons I didn;t care about school was, i was going to the nba. I was a legand on the blacktops of san jose california. Where does that get an american child? Better to work hard in school. :)

I used to tutor college athletes. Eighty percent of them thought they were going to the pros. So sad.

Basketball is a great sport. The great thing about basketball, and most sports, is race doesn't matter. Age doesn't matter. Sex doesn't matter. All that matters is producion. Or what kind of teammate you are. Or if yo udominate the game and all comers or not. Race never enters in. All are equal. that is america. many striving to reach a goal, to win. We are all one people. those who would divide based on race or gender show their face.

But what about those people who try to label Clinton supporters as racists? Are they not trying to divide people?

but no. he is not Jesus or a God. What he is, is an example. someone to be looked up to and congradulated. It angers me when selfish people destroy that, for youth people.

Who are these selfish people you speak of? Do you mean all Clinton supporters? Do you mean that because young people need the role model of a black man for president that it is important that we elect Obama so as not to destroy their dreams?

think about the future. Think about the big picture.

Oh I am. That is exactly what I am thinking about.

When you said: "REPENT AND YOU WILL BE FORGIVEN" -- what exactly did you mean? How can I repent and be forgiven if you do not explain what people should repent for having done?
