I also think even some of his nicer, more well-meaning supporters represent another dead-end kind of old politics: the politics of liberal self-righteousness, where we know we're better than those benighted supporters of those other guys (or gals), and that cheers us, even if we can't convince a majority we're right.
The funny thing is that is exactly what I feel about a lot of Hillary's supporters. I've felt that her entire inevitability campaign exuded this elitist clique vibe (sorry). And Rebecca's "Obama Boys" article struck me in a similar manner. It seems to have alienated a few older women and some AA women as well, judging from the letters.
Ah, well, it's always easier to see the same faults in other people and other groups than in oneself and peers.
