is that clear enough for you?
it's not about sexism, it's about hillary.
I've noticed quite a few discussion posts, especially on Broadsheet, from "readers" who seem to log on only to ridicule some of the feminist viewpoints aired there, both by columnists and other reader/posters.
It's ruining the site for me. I don't expect everyone to agree with a liberal, feminist point of view, but these people aren't interested in intelligent discourse or in sharing reasoned arguments for their own views. If I wanted to spend my time dealing with such people, I'd tune in to Faux News.
The high priest of hate who created the term "Feminazi?" I guess this is an instance where the enemy (Limbaugh) of your enemy (Obama) is your friend.
Joan Walsh, I am glad that you are voicing the truth of the matter in "Thank you, Rush Limbaugh!" I think that women are treated unfair in this world. People should look at the aspect of can Hillary do the job or can't she? People are so prejudice towards a woman being a President, that they let their vision get fogged by her being a woman. It has been this way from the beginning of time.Women are just looked at as sex objects, and have been marked by men as baby factories and homemakers. She will run the country as good as any man that we have ever had, even better than some of our previous PRESIDENTS. Hillary has proven to me that she can lead this country, after all she is holding her head up high while all these PIGS put her down. She can handle the economic situation we are in now, she will prevail and show them by becoming the first female President, and I will be the first to tell her how proud I am of her.
The sexism came first and is applied to all women and was applied to Hillary Clinton before she even became first lady. Sexism in our culture created much of the negative view that people have about Hillary before Bill ever assumed office.
I agree with you, wholeheartedly. I am still for Obama because of his persona plus, to put it simply, the things he chooses to say.
I lost my fondness for Hillary because of the things she chooses to say.
In my psyche, despite deep feelings about sexism, something about Obama registers a higher note. So I've got to vote it.
Your admirer and fellow UU,
You have constantly been a voice of sanity in the overhyped conflict here.
Look, the media likes conflict. They HAVE said things just as nasty about Obama, and just as unjustified, from the "Muslim" flap to the "black enough" stuff at first. They have also said ugly things about McCain, claiming him to be a collaborator with the North Vietnamese at the Hanoi Hilton, etc.
It is NOT about racism or sexism. It is about CONFLICT, MONEY, and RATINGS. They think if they say ugly things, the conflict will bring viewers. That's why Coulter called Edwards a fag, and the media pile on followed. When it comes to truly evil behavior by the media, the Edwards caught far more hell than Hilary.
I don't think CLinton should be called a whore, or Obama a N**** (as a number of Southerners have called him in THE MEDIA). I think Limbaugh has sasid things as ugly about Obama, and Matthews as ugly on CLinton. Clinton STARTED with most of the black vote, not Obama. SHe won the majority of the black vote in the first two contests. Let's not go tribalist here.
I think that talking heads went far over the lines of civil discourse a while ago. If both Clinton and Obama supporters told the people at FOX and the rest of the media "enough"; if both sets of supporters would boycott the companies buying ads at FOX et al, you would see less sexist and racist stuff on the air and in the papers.
Right now corporate interests are dividing and conquering rank and file Democrats through this "infighting". As long as Clinton and Obama people fight each other,t hey won't turn on a media that has treated all of the candidates poorly, and those of us in the electorate horribly. As long as the supporters fight each other, they won't call the media out on superficial coverage of fiscal issues, the horrible Paulson regulation (turn the industry over to the tools who have wrecked it) Bill, they won't call the media out on the false and inaccurate coverage.
LOOK AT THE REAL ENEMY. IT IS THE GREEN.
As long as you fight each other over this, they will avoid real banking, housing, and credit industry reform. STOP BEING STUPID PEOPLE!
Hilary and Obama will do better than any of us in the upcoming recession. Start thinking about reality.
His being educated means nothing. Lots of righties are educated too. That doesn't make them any less greedy or less willing to sell their own moms for a buck fifty.
I don't protend to know if Olberman is a bonafida leftie or a plant for the right, but a few things ARE worth noting.
1. By the time he arrived to bash Bush with his verbage, Bush's approval ratings were already long in the toilet.
2. He conveniently staged himself approximately a couple of years before primary season - just long enough to build up a leftwing following for his (I believe) REAL purpose: to convince lefties to self-destruct by putting forth an unviable candidate, aka the Obamatuer.
It's no cakewalk being a Clinton. But those who court public attention, political mention, and fame, are often themselves, the most to blame.
"The press and visual media that carried water for [Hillary] for years now has the opportunity to dump on her without helping the opposition party...I think the press and media had more dislike for the Republicans than they had affection for Bill and Hillary."
What country are you living in? What media are you talking about. What water did the press EVER carry for Hillary? What press and media show dislike for Republicans?
In the country I live in, the USA, every major newspaper in the country carried the full text of Bill Clinton's private sex life by reprinting the Starr Report in full, whereas not one mention was ever made in the MSM about a male prostitute (can we call him a whore, Joan? Would that be PC being he's a male?) roaming the White House at will and actually, as a member of the media, carrying water for the Bush presidency. The outrage among the US media was deafening during the trumped up "scandal" around Monica Lewinsky, but an illegal war, black box voting, illegal wiretapping, outing of a CIA agent and her entire front operation, illegal torture and even murder, rape of US citizens working for Halliburton and other contractors... ho hum. No cause for alarm.
Hillary has been the butt of press ridicule for 15 years. Her 12 year old daughter was ridiculed for being a "dog" by the most popular talk radio host in America without one word of outrage in the press. I could go on and on but I think everyone who lives in America could find many more examples.
Come to the USA and visit one of our fine libraries (ones that haven't had funding crises due to ReaganBushonomics) and catch up on your reading!
