I'm tired of the double standard
If we must mention Obama's pastor, can't we please mention the endorsement by John Hagee to McCain. Why is McCain getting a free pass? C'mon, which pastor is truly scarier?!?!?!

The Fox News thing
My main problem with Joan's post is that by watching Fox News and allowing their inane (and dare I say, desperate) rhetoric to dictate her subject matter, she lowers our level of discourse to that of a second-rate cable news outlet. As a regular Salon reader who probably has much in common with other readers here (left-leaning, interested in politics and culture), to me this indicates that Joan is a poor judge of her own audience. This is what most letters seem to be pointing to; it's not that we cannot hear any criticism of Obama, but that this particular "issue" is so very inconsequential in a time when the presumed Democratic nominee is likely to wipe the floor with McCain.
And yes, to the folks who actually watch Fox News and take it seriously, this may be an issue. But Joan, we know that without needing to be told. We understand that there are people who will parse every word because they have different beliefs and want to see their candidate win. We instinctively know this is happening on Fox and through Rush Limbaugh and other right wing radio, but Salon doesn't need to be the place where we discuss their talking points with any kind of seriousness.

Vetting Obama
I think we should lighten-up on Joan. While I have noticed a tendency to be neutral toward HRC, she has also been critical.
Given an incipient surge by Obama in the polls that, if it continues, it will bury HRC, and if it is reflected in PA may result in the biggest upset of the campaign. Even if its only close (less than 10%), PA will effectively end the race.
But in retrospect, it may wall be that the vetting of Obama in the primaries will be a huge plus in November. The Rev. Wright thing has played itself out and Obama's survived. It's increasingly becoming "old news." It will be old, old news in October.
And both HRC and Obama have been pushed to the Democratic core values by the campaign. HRC discovered her hidden anti-war position and Obama has become increasingly populist by necessity. The real game in Denver may well be the platform and there I expect Pelosi and crew to play a dominant role. That’s IMVHO is a real plus. As a former Edwards supporter I think that's great.
The only question is how will HRC go: with a touch of class or a touch of crass. At some point despite her "fighting" instincts, I expect that sooner, rather than later. One thing about Hillary, she is a smart lady. I just hope she's really smart.

Ms. Walsh is delusional
Sigh...
This is a non-story. I agree with some other posters that Joan is better off writing a story about the factors behind the scenes driving these petty stories.
Ms. Walsh truly has missed some important topics pertaining to the campaign (although I give her credit for her opinion about how the long primary fight is GOOD for the democrats, even though I think it is delusional), such as Hillary's doublespeak about pledged delegates (they are JUST like supers, they can switch their votes!), the possible re-votes in MI and FL, the comments of Reid and Pelosi, etc.
Joan has every right to express her opinion but I do agree with others that her credibility is tanking fast, it's so blatantly biased it's close to laughable. I think she's capable of improving it, however, because I think she's smart enough.

Pathetic Joan
God Joan why didn't reassure us all that you aren't concerned about his COCAINE use? Maybe you could say he's not like JESSE JACKSON. Good Lord, it is pathetic. It seems to me you might as well just say "Salon readers, I believe you are idiots."
This is a non-story that you gave a headline to in order to publicize the charges while pretending to be dismissing them.
You are as vile as HRC in these gutter tactics and when the Democrats lose in November you will both go on TV and say the american people let the world down again. No Joan, YOU are letting the world done with this self-evidently sloppy partisan coverage.

Spinning Michelle...
Really, Joan. Why are you even posting this? Only the die-hard right-wing nutjobs could begin to see this comment as racially polarizing. Michelle's own words are clear. There is no distinction of black and white (or anything else), just a genel commetn about how we all frequently interact or fail to do so when given the opportunity. Sounds pretty clearly like a call to UNITY.

re: wrong or left sides
[...] as well as some one-sided remarks he published on his "pastor's page" in the church bulletin about Israel. That controversy might not go away.
So are we to assume that his 'one-sided remarks' (how many sides must one person support in any given set of remarks?) were controversial because they were of the wrong side? Come now, Ms. Walsh. Please, explain to us now which remarks are controversial and which aren't when they are 'one-sided'. I really want to know but your abstruse comments about what exactly he might have said tell us clearly that in your opinion, one-sided remarks about Israel must become controversial if they are not on your one side.

The woods
Obama will stay in the woods as long as two-faced commentators like you and those morons at Fox keep the irrelevant rants of Wright at the center of the inquiry, and maintain that negative spin. At least Fox is somewhat plain and honest in their goals. You, on the other hand, pretend to be "examining" his campaign when all you are really doing is taking every opportunity you can to keep dirt in the discourse. Your readers are quite tired and annoyed at your low-ball attacks masked as editorials. We see through you.

Michelle Obama/Jeremiah Wright
Both have problems with Ignorant White people (i.e. Hilary supporting White folks and the rest of the Replublican Whitey's)...So now both can go hide in 1.5 million dollar mansions...Isn't nice of the Trinity church to build a 10,000 sq foot house for Uncle Wright while at the same he's time barking on about White classim...Imagine how much "more" White bashin Michelle would be doing if she'd only received say 150,000 or 100,000 dollar raise (instead of the 200,000 she got after Barack was elected to Senate...America sure has treated these people poorly...
