  • "Barack Obama is not out of the woods yet on these issues..."

By all means, let us know when he is.

  • Ignorant America

You would have to be ignorant to not understand what she was saying. Fox News viewers, I guess.

  • Obama supporters take this as a badge of honor

They can't be corrected or argued with. They are the definition of deluded and arrogant to point of psychosis. If Obama said we should drown 10 million Americans, which might not really be a bad idea, his minions would cheer. Obama has the potential to be this country's greatest demagogue if not dictator.

  • Just heard same topic tonight on favorite (evil) talk radio

Yes, my favorite evil talk radio station was remarking about this very same subject early tonight. Where does this river of talking points come from and how do I dip my bucket into it?

I noticed that the stories on the economic plans didn't stay up long. Is that because nobody bothered to read them? Stuff that the candidates might actually try to accomplish once elected?

  • Stop the fake "Italian" concern

Not too many ordinary (or "typical") Italians have identified with the Roman Occupiers of Palestine since the sixth century or so (with a few notable exceptions here and there), and yet Barack Obama is not out of the woods yet especially because Jeremiah Wright referred to Ancient Roman oppressors as "garlic nose Italians" when challenging his congregation to stop caring more about bling bling than about freeing their minds?

Stop already, I really can't take that seriously at all.

More of that Wright sermon is at http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewPolitics.asp?Page=/Politics/archive/200803/POL20080326a.html.

Be sure not to miss the vicious hatemongering in Wright's conclusion:

"In a world that is controlled by white supremacy, in a country that is on its way to hell in a hand basket because of lying politicians, in a culture that still thinks 'white is right' and with young people who do not have a clue as to our story, our history, our legacy or our destiny, we still have African-American Christians who are more concerned about 'bling bling' than about freeing our minds," Wright wrote.

You want Barack in trouble for Wright saying that?

  • "ignorant" America

Michelle Obama is one smart cookie. She tells it like it is. If one looks at her life, she is a real asset to the USA. She hasn't always been proud of our country. Neither am I. We have many good points but there are some stickers in there too. How about the Archie Bunker types? Are you proud of them? There are plenty of them around. There are many politicians that we could do without.

  • Wow hadn't even heard about this

maybe because it's nothing. Hadn't heard of the other stuff you threw in at the end either... I guess I just don't listen to rightwing radio or watch Fox much.

  • Are you a concern troll?

Sorry, Joan, but you lost too much credibility with me when you wrote "Moving beyond Obama and race."

Now, you sound like a HRC concern troll.

    "I worry about Obama!"

Sure you do. Sure you do.

  • I wonder

I'm very curious as to what Joan has to say about what she thinks is driving the kind of questioning that is being attached to Obama's association with the preacher man. I have to believe that at some point, Joan will have something to say about this. So far it is as if she accepts the basic spectrum of conversation premised by our beloved social "experts". In this latest post, Joan lets us know that there is even MORE for us to be concerned about in regards to Barack's association with this man, but I think Joan is setting us up for an eventual (soon, Joan, please) analysis of what factors are making this man's preacher take on the scope it is. I can't believe she simply is accepting the current narrative. And i'm not asking her to say it doesn't matter. I just don't believe she's this lame. All we have to do is turn on any news channel on the tube tomorrow and we can engage in the latest preacher fetish. I wonder what Joan has to add to this from the unique perspective she has. Is she really just waiting to hear more about Mr. Wright before she has something interesting to say about the nature of this media coverage? No way. Joan is about to throw down some insight!!!!

  • I do wish, Joan,

that you would stop this; it really does you no credit. No, there's nothing wrong with what Mrs. Obama said. I've said it myself. There's also nothing wrong with Reverend Wright's sermons. What's wrong is treating honest discussion of an issue which has plagued this country since its founding as a journalistic parlor game.

Putting it as simply as I can, you aren't qualified to judge the significance of what anyone says on this subject. Attitudes aren't a commodity to be hawked, and even if they were, op-ed bloggers would still be better off selling corn-dogs at the beach.

  • re: I just don't believe she's this lame

It's becoming an awfully long setup. The climax and resolution will be spectacular.

  • Job Opening!

Hey Joan, if this concern troll thing doesn't work out, I heard there's an opening for Melanie Morgan's old job.

  • You have failed to cover stories about -

Ferraro, Hillary's Bosnia lie, the letter to Pelosi, Clinton call for a nomination fight and so on, in this campaign. Yet you never fail to mention Wright or any number of Fox News talking points. You must watch Fox News and salivate, that is where you get the inspiration for 90% of your articles.

You are absolutely and completely biased and you have lost much credibility. I don't know if it will ever return.

  • Joan

I am still waiting for your take on Clinton's Bosnia misspeake, Carville's Judas comments and all the missteps in the Clinton campaign.

All you write about is Obama's "not out of the woods yet." Can we assume that for you Clinton is out of bounds on anything she does, while you will parse every little Obama infraction.

    Just asking.

  • P.C. Obamaites

It is very discouraging that Joan Walsh has come under attack for simply stating a view point regarding the Wright-Obama

relationship. She made some excellent points, perhaps because

she can see past the fog of hero worship that so many Obama

supporters suffer from. It is time for the Obamaites to consider the idea that their candidate has displayed some rather unbecoming character traits during his campaign, i.e

His ability to continually "miss" controversial votes, Rezco,

an inability to speak truthfully about his knowledge of the

content of Wright's sermons(give me a break!)The list could go on and on. Smarmy comes to my mind.

Just because Joan Walsh questions Obama's motives doesn't mean she favors Hillary. It could be called being a provocative

journalist. After all, this is called Salon for a reason!
