W.E.S.
With W.E.S. the notorious whitebread establishment shithead weighing in on the side of Walsh's argument, I see no reason to even raise a debate that the toxicity level of this race is damaging to dems.

@ WES
I campaigned for Dukakis in 1988 at the age of 15.
I sat out the 1990s, disgusted by Clinton's doing the Republicans' work for them.
I campaigned actively for Nader in 2000.
I caucused for Dean and voted for Kerry in 2004.
I will not vote for McCain, but I can't see myself voting for Clinton, should she somehow pull this off.
If she does, I don't know whom I'll vote for, but it nearly certainly won't be her.
-
Sorry
WES, I conflated your comment and RbL's in my head.
That's why that last comment came out of left field.
-
Thanks Dave .. I hope others will do the same..
and by re-reading Walsh's commentaries and/or by watching her on television see what a disservice she is doing to readers, voters and those she works with at Salon with her skewing of EVERY storyline toward Hillary while pretending to be fair. As I said before, I spent 14 years as a journalist at some good newspapers an some bad ones and not even at the bad ones did I see the kind of yellow journalism currently being practiced by Joan Walsh. Maybe reality-based is right, maybe like Hillary she is so deluded she actually believes she is fair - doesn't matter, liar or delusional, she shouldn't be editor at Salon.

So In Other Words
You've supported and or voted for democratic losers the whole way. Other than Clinton victories which you sat out.
-
WES
Why are you so mean to people like weeping for brunnhilde?
-
WES
"So In Other Words
You've supported and or voted for democratic losers the whole way. Other than Clinton victories which you sat out."
Your point being...?
-
Wes loves to hijack the thread, don't you know that by now?
You're better off not responding to him.
-
Don't mind WES.
He's just in a snit because Clinton's been mathematically eliminated.
-
Hell
If it weren't for the Clintons Roe-Wade would already be toast.

@ R-bL
Thanks, Rbl. There certainly is no shortage of vitriol around here and I often wonder the same thing: whence all the acrimony?
It's almost as if politics is just a pretext for misanthropy.
Truth to tell, I'd suggest that characterizes the Bush ethos and to a lesser extent, that of the Clintons.
A wise woman, a 26 year old singer once commented that there are two ways to be in this world. There's no "good and evil," she mused, but only "open and closed."
For what it's worth.

W.E.S.
wow us with yo wundabread.

Every day for more than a week
We've been treated to box ads that proclaim "Should Hillary Quit?" or today's version which has Jesubama the Messiah side by side with Hillary looking like a clown. You folks couldn't be more transparent if you tried.
-
@ kcm, virtue
Thanks for the guidance, guys/gals. I'm still feeling my way around...

Well it's a good thing turnout will be high
I'm getting so depressed seeing all the mean people get meaner and meaner and meaner, it's making me think there's just only so much politics can do for the world. So if I get too worn out and bummed out to vote, it won't really matter, because turnout will be high.

Consequences
Joan, I think you have a point about reality: more folks are registering Dem and that has to be good for the party. My understanding of your take on the "will not vote for the other candidate" is that you put a lot of faith in the logic of traditional Dems that the devistation to the Supreme Court, Iraq, and the economy under McSame are going to outweigh any lingering hard feelings from the primary.
You may be right--we can't know what the future reality will be. But emotion is trumping reason in many areas, some bigger-picture, some personal.
Big picture: The downside to this ongoing battle is that it feeds media meta-narratives that hurt Democrats of any stripe. Democrats are snatching defeat from the jaws of victory; (Obama) is too weak to lead [but if he does fight back, he's a slick fraud]; Clinton is a congenital liar that will destroy her own party to win [if she wins, she's an amoral witch; if she drops out, Obama couldn't win the race on his own merits]. We're feeding the trolls with our fight, when mathematically one candidate is in fact the nominee.
On a personal note: At the beginning of primary season, many of us were energized, thrilled, and embarrassed by the riches of our democratic contenders. We're going to win! And we're going to like and respect our candidate! Post kitchen-sink, I have been demoralized by Clinton elevating McCain's experience over Obama's. I went from "dream ticket" fantasies to shock and disappointment.
Perhaps in the historical context of primaries of decades past this fight is not ugly. But this isn't just any primary season. It's the first real chance since the most disasterous reign in history to change the power dynamic. It was the first time in my life I felt good about our chances and what we could do with a
Instead of trumpeting to victory, as I thought we were going to do back in Jan, we're devoting valuable media time and money to increasingly outlandish attacks that diminish our arguments and positions on the issues, reducing the candidates to their flaws and personality tics. And there's only one candidate that's praised McCain over fellow Democratic contenders. And McCain has made many mistakes that were ripe for pushing if we weren't so mired in our own primaries. With no one set to fight, McCain can look above the fray and presidential to his his base (the media) while we look like children, squabbling and unable to run the country. His poll numbers have soared without any traditional campaigning--Hill's been doing it for him.
So I think that's the reason the emotion is jacked up on at least one side.
Oh, and it's Samantha POWER. Not Powers. Fyi.

History Lesson
Hey Joan
Are you on crack or just shilling for Clinton again? Take a look at the recent primary election fights the Dems have had. They all led to crushing defeats in the General. Remember McGgovern? Mondale? or Dukakis? all devisive primary battles.
Your dog in this fight has gotten her ass kicked and will destroy the party rather than admitt it. She know she cant win, so she's making sure Obama wont win so she can run again in 2012.
Maybe a good histrorical primary election artical is in order. But no that would confirm the bull shit in your post.
