It's actually quite simple, see 1 + 1 = 2, 2 + 1 = 3
One of those is more than the other.
The ancients came up with this, it is called arithmetic, I'm surprised you didn't hear about it in school. It's a great way to determine quantities.
You know, like who is winning an election.
