  • @tom payne: bmaggie's straw man

bravo for the new look! I think it suits you better than the chaotic jokester. You watching Adams or somethin?

  • we have never elected a President by threatening and intimidating the voters.

What about LBJ and his mushroom cloud commercial, the granddady of the 3:00am call?

What about "Vote deomcrat and the terrorists win"?

  • @rphillips111

rphillips: "Obama regretted Wright's views. Indeed, claimed he didn't know Wright harbored such views. Then exused and justified Wright."

Obama said he hadn't heard specific statements. He then admitted he knew that Wright had some controversial approaches. Not a contradiction. Obama also did not "excuse and justify" the offensive statements of Wright. He did explain his relationship with him going back 20 years. Obama is not responsible for every little thing Wright has said.

rphillips: " Obama gave the fact and fiction litany of black grievances as well as Al and Jesse could have listed them."

Fact and fiction? Pray tell, which parts of Obama's speech were fictional?

rphillips: "Does this mean Obama favors more affirmative action, quotas, preferences, and the reparations agenda?"

Actually most of Obama's positions are explained on his web site. There are numerous places where you can look at his voting record and policies. Go to Wikipedia and type in his name, then click on "positions" and look at the links at the bottom of the page. That's a good starting point. You can also try Google and Yahoo.

rphillips: "Will he pursue a more politically correct america?"

This is a nonsense question. But if you even listened to or read Obama's entire speech, it should be very clear that Obama has a much larger vision than mere political correctness or leftist agendas.

  • @ Xrandadu Hutman: Your 'Advice To Advocacy Journalists'

Great, Hutman. Now you're using the ever-reliable "wikipedia" for definitive information (otherwise known as "the kids dictionary).

Your "serious" questions to Joan Walsh might be taken more seriously if you found sources other than Wiki and the Canadian Journalists Association to get your information. Maybe you live in Canada and therefore use a Canadian source. However, American journalists have our own organizations and institutes that establish standards of conduct in the profession.

    To wit:

    Annenberg

    SPJ

    National Press Club

    The Newspaper Guild

    Poynter Institute

Better yet, how about a "real" journalism organization?

  • threatening and intimidating

    @Uncle Fester

I interpreted rphillips111 comments as referring to something more like what Doug Wilder said awhile back:

Richmond Mayor L. Douglas Wilder warns that there will be chaos at the Democratic National Convention if superdelegates anoint a nominee who did not win the most popular votes.

If that happens, the scene at the Democrats' August convention in Denver could be worse than the unrest at the 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago, Wilder said yesterday on the CBS program "Face the Nation."

Interesting that he said most popular votes, not delegates. Better send him the talking points quick.

  • Elevate the discussion

The man, Barack Obama that is, is trying to elevate the discussion. He has spoken more bravely and eloquently on race than almost anyone, and you, Joan, continue to drag the discussion down to its basest level and pick out one thing completely out of context. When you resemble Fox Channel at its worst you really need to question yourself. You continue to disappoint.

Weeping for Brunnhilde and many others on this thread are FAR more eloquent than you, Joan, and do their best to elevate the conversation back to where Obama started it, so no need for me to do anything other than thank them all for their efforts.

Joan, my goodness, stop trying to defend something so off-base.

  • @ljwalker

ljwalker53: "Great, Hutman. Now you're using the ever-reliable "wikipedia" for definitive information"

Nothing wrong with looking at Wikipedia when it provides links to other credible sources.

ljwalker53: "Your "serious" questions to Joan Walsh might be taken more seriously if you found sources other than Wiki and the Canadian Journalists Association to get your information."

Actually I looked at a few other sites, like SPJ, but the list I quoted was the most relevant to the topic. As for mocking Canadian journalists, I find them at least as credible as U.S. journalists. (I don't read it every day, but I enjoy the Toronto Star.)

  • This sucks!

When John Conyers (D-MI) was asked why he has not pursued impeachment for Bush and Cheney, his response was:

Do I want to jeopardize the election by taking up the issue? The problem is, this could become the issue of the 2008 election. This brilliant, talented Senator (Obama) who has more delegates and more votes than anyone else, could get derailed…We can win this election and go get these guys afterwards.”

    Rep. John Conyers (D-MI)

    March 18, 2008

Mr. Conyers is the only one that can bring impeachment to the floor for a vote for impeachment hearings against Bush and Cheney. So now we know why Bush and Cheney have not been impeached yet. I guess Mr. Conyers thinks it is more important for Obama to win rather than protecting the American people and the world from the Bush Administration! No wonder so many Republicans love Obama, because he is preventing justice from being served to this Administration for war crimes. When Bush is threatening to keep us in Iraq permanently and may take us into Iran for another war, Conyers priority is not making sure we are safe from Bush and what he is capable of, but instead, his priority is making sure he does not shake things up with the Republicans risking any chances of Obama getting elected. He should be more concerned with doing his job and bringing justice to Bush and Cheney for war crimes, not laying eggshells around Democrats who despise this Administration and their policies, while vainly “hoping” Obama might win. To anyone who ever wanted Bush and Cheney impeached and felt helpless with no results, now you know why!

So tell me Mr. Conyers, while subjecting the US to this Administration for 10 more months, will it have been worth the risk of this country and its citizens if anything happens from now until Mr. Bush leaves office if Obama does not win the General Election in November?
