Should Florida and Michigan vote again?

Sure it would be expensive, but the cost to the Democratic Party if superdelegates end up choosing the nominee would also be high.

The letters thread is now closed.

Money money money

How much will a real primary cost in Michigan and Florida? Who will pay for it?

How many delegates will be awarded? What margins are the candidates likely to get?

Seems like the most like scenario would be a net gain of about 25 delegates for Clinton (she'll lose Michigan and win Florida by a smaller margin than in January). Real primaries will cost on the order of $20-25 million.

If the delegations "elected" in January in the two states were seated, with the uncommitted Michigan delegates going to Obama, what would be the delegate swing? If the Democrats retroactively reduced their punishment to the same as the Republicans and seat half of the Michigan and Florida delegations, that would result in about the same delegate swing as spending at least $20 million on primaries.

Obviously, that requires calling uncommitted votes Obama votes, and in a sense it's the least fair of all the outcomes, but it's $20 million for a tiny correction.

Kitchen Sink

Florida and Michigan must vote. And thank you for the clarification about the Kitchen Sink. It got repeated all night on CNN and again on a lot of progressive sights I am getting sick of. These misteps by Obama were not of Hillary's making.

I don't like the result, change the rules.

You can't change the rules of the game after the game is either lost or won. It shows incredible weakness in the party and would make me think about voting Republican, which I really don't want to do. Rather let the super deligates decide if they have to. They are part of the original game rules.

ms fuxxsnooze

it's not the kitchen sink, it's the septic tank. Hillary has a lot of balls to scream "shame on you". She must have borrowed Bill's; he's not using them these days. If Team Billary leverages the rules to gerrymander the nomination, she will lose to McLame. We'll have done it again: lose the unloseable election. Smart. Real smart. Kmart. Wall Mart- you know, that enlightened company that had Hillary on their board of directors for several years. Now, that's experience. Eat Chinese lead and watch more fuxxsnooze. Fair and balanced and salivating at the chance to eviscerate Ms. Rodham Klingon. love heywood

Numbers

According to Associated Press, right now HC has 1462 delegates and BO 1567 (including the supers). Add FL to that and HC has 1575 and BO 1638. Still ahead and it would be fair to add these delegates to the total (this coming from an Obama supporter). Now we have one big problem with MI... Just a suggestion : add the 55 uncommited dels to BO's total. That would give 1655 dels for HC and 1693 for BO. And don't forget JE would get 39 dels with FL counted in, and I just don't imagine him doing anythning but endorsing BO. Final recount without revote : 1655 HC vs 1732 BO. So what ? Let's just do it and call it a day. BO has waon, period.

Except that...

1655 HC vs 1732 BO. So what ? Let's just do it and call it a day. BO has waon, period.

Except that there are still some states to go, aren't there?

TO VOTE-OR-NOT TO VOTE

Let's not get ugly with each other ----

I don't want to be one of those "regular" bloggers who sit around all day typing out their agressions. However, I must agree with "luv2kamp" and was relieved to find I was not the ONLY citizen in the State of Florida who was not aware of what our "leaders" did behind closed doors last Fall when they apparently made the decision to move our primary from March to January 2008. I moved from Pennsylvania to Florida in the year 2000, just in time to experience the first political "flub" in Florida - and now this.

For all those who don't reside in Florida, please hear us that WE WERE NOT INFORMED from our local leaders as to the primary election change and the resulting decision from the DNC to negate our votes UNTIL mid-January 2008. I read the paper and watch the news on a daily basis - we must let the rest of the country know that unless the message went out in fine print at the back of the paper....we were never advised what our democratic delegates and/or republican governor were intending to do to change our primary date.

It is ironic that none of the political leaders want to "stand up" and take the credit for moving Florida's primary date. We were just recently told (in February) to blame our Republican governor - then we were told to blame our Democratic delegates - then we were told to blame Howard Dean...... We would just like to know, WHO and WHY they decided to change the date; and secondly, when forewarned that the democratic votes would not be counted, WHO made that decision to still proceed with moving our primary and WHY weren't the registered voters notified "in advance" of this critical decision?

LASTLY - those out there who don't appreciate what an excellent opportunity our country would have to see HILLARY CLINTON as our President, I honestly do not feel that Hillary is pushing for the Florida/Michigan votes "just because she needs them" ---- if you watch CNN, MSNBC, and the TODAY SHOW - the ENTIRE country feels that it will become necessary to "count our votes" due to the close numbers in the race. Although Obama thinks "the numbers are unsurmountable to beat", the Today Show indicated this morning that it would also be virtually impossible for Obama to meet the quota for the number of delegates needed to win.

I think this is an exciting time for politics - but let's all try to stand united and not get nasty with each other on our comments. I get frustrated too - but we can leave the bad language out of this issue and stick to the important facts at hand.

GO HILLARY!

Yes

As a Michigan voter from county that was carried by 'Uncommitted', I heartily support a re-vote.

Should Florida and Michigan vote again?

No! They should definitely NOT be allowed to vote! The leaders in those two states, along with H Clinton, thought that Super Tuesday was a done deal against Obama! Now let them live with that decision.
