"it would be like sending Opie Taylor to be the sheriff in "High Noon.""
Diderot, that is one scary image you just put in my head.

Warning: You're being scammed by the G.O.P.
Joan Walsh's kindly suggestion "Be fairer to Hillary Clinton, guys." made me think of the fellow just suspended over at MSNBC for accusing her of "pimping" her daughter. These "guys" Walsh is referring to are some of the most despicable, mysoginist, out-of-control characters inside television studios, and we continue to be subjected to them 24/7. Even Tom Brokaw admits that he played "hall monitor" when Chris Matthews was on the air with his Super Tuesday coverage. The corporate media juggernaut has been placed at the disposal of Barack Obama, spewing out story after story slamming Clinton and praising him. Republicans from coast to coast have re-registered in Democratic primaries by the tens of thousands to vote for him and against her. Yet he's still behind 100 delegates. What does that say about this first-term senator's chances of winning in November? It's not like he's going to have all those Republicans voting for him in the general election. This has always been about knocking out Hillary in the primary so Karl Rove's candidate, whoever it turns out to be, can coast into the White House next fall. For more on their strategy, check out the article I've posted at thecityedition.com.

Lemmings drawn to self-destruction
Sometime ago I began posting in Salon because I learned a lot from fellow commenters. Sure there were disagreements. But they seemed to involve issues not personalities. But with election fever we seems to have gone into : my candidate is better than your candidate mode". It is one thing to be committed and supportive, it is another to trash the candidate one opposes.
The blogosphere was supposed to be place where everyman and everywoman had a chance to air their views and engage. Much of what one sees here is no worse than the stuff dished out on MSNBC: pure pejorative crap. Attacking Joan may be fun: all she asked is for us to argue our case without assuming that the opposite side has no standing, moral value or legitimacy.
Our candidate will facee a Republican opponent who is not known for being shy about attacking an opponent. The Republican machine spews garbage with ease. Let us not so weaken our own candidate that our words will be thrown in our faces by the Republican machine. They will pull our quotes and say: this is what a Democrat says about XXX.
To say I am disappointed at the anger and harshness in some posts is putting it mildly.
