It's not just black and white
My wife is a Polynesian-American journalist (I'm white). Since meeting her, I've become much more aware of how severely both the mainstream media and the general population couch all racial issues literally in black and white. She says that brown people, as she calls them, meaning Latinos, Pacific Islanders, South Asians, and Middle Easterners (i.e., pretty much anyone who isn't of European, African, or East Asian descent) get fed up with the constant focus on black-white issues, to the exclusion of brown issues (other than immigration). She also cites the historic, undeniable mistrust and unease between African and Latino Americans as a significant factor that Obama must overcome if he is to become the Democratic nominee.
In addition to Joan Walsh, I've seen a few other people writing about this issue, while most of the media ignores it completely. Some mainstream media types, in a remarkable display of ignorance, have even called it "surprising" that Obama didn't get all of the minority vote. A few weeks ago, my wife correctly predicted that Clinton would dominate the Latino vote and win California as a result. We both support Obama and consider it unfortunate that the Obama campaign didn't pay much attention to this problem until recently. But more than that, it's downright pathetic that so many supposed "journalists" are so ignorant of the greater complexity of race and ethnicity in the United States, beyond the simplicity of black and white.

Davedavis, you clearly exemplify the best of the Obama supporters.
First, you dismiss my hearfelt thank-you message to Diane B as simply a promo for HRC's new fundraising campaign - but all I wished to do is genuinely express my gratitude to Diane B in the post. And is that donation campaign not something newsworthy, too, since it has been mentioned in the news? Why do you find it offensive for me to mention a candidate's asking for donations, which can easily be ignored by anyone, no? Sorry that you take offence at such a comment, but since when did you make the rules for posting here at Salon?
Next, you just can't resist another opportunity to stomp on HRC again in her request to supporters by calling the target sum as 'lame' - ooh, that's very gracious of you, since 3 million dollars is oh-so-small. 'Cause Obama is so awash in money right now, ergo, he's the one who deserves the nomination - this seems to be your pretzel logic here, if I follow the implication of your demeaning comment.
By the way, you might want to get a copy of Camorrista's Q&A card about which I posted just earlier.

To Rubick Cube
Do read posts more carefully next time. Didn't you see what I specifically wrote?
...it encapsulates so succinctly the attitude of SOME pathological cases in the anti-Hillary camp.
If the shoe fits, and you feel yourself to belong to that particularly odious section of the camp, well, go get yourself a handy Q & A card from Camorrista.

Huh?
Zoetrope1 - was that extended quote some sort of response to my call-out? If so I don't get it.
If it was just a head-in-the-sand middle finger to anyone who doesn't support your candidate, well, it's kinda silly and very unimaginative.
Its very sad HRC supporters can't discuss this campaign on issues, and instead focuses like a laser on victimization and paranoia against the candidate.
Truth is HRC doesn't have it so bad. She's set for life to the extent that she can write a check for $5million to elect herself president. Off the coasts and outside the big cities where her support is mostly found, things aren't so hot. The country's bitterly divided, people are going bellyup, and no one can afford health care. We're fighting a couple wars on a credit card from China. So pardon me for not being shamed into feeling bad for Hillary.
The truth is I will find it easier to support Hillary than McCain in November, but it's sad that so many of her supporters are just like republicans, filled with righteous anger and rage. Her supporters on these threads even use Republican victim terms like "MSM", and have adopted identical strategies to villify the media (Rush calls them "the Liberal Media" when he uses this line).
I'd simply urge the HRC crowd to get real. You are backing a different kind of candidate to fight a familiar war which you may well see as unavoidable, if not absolutely necessary. Cool. If that's the deal, don't try to dupe others into thinking shes some sort of change agent, or fresh thinking. She's simply the other side of the same coin we've been flipping for 20 years. It's fair to argue that this is exactly what's needed, and while I'd disagree I'm happy to accept your assessment and encourage you to vote however you see it. But it's unfair to rebrand Hillary as a populist martyr, and while using your progressive flag (virtually every HRC post complains of sexism and unfair attention to Bill's racist remarks) to beat down competitors on their real merits. She cannot be all things to all voters, and the sooner she stops this insane triangulation, the better her chances.
Lets have an honest debate about our respective candidates visions, and world view. Oh, wait... nevermind, that would be unfair to Hillary, who always needs to have it both ways.

I'm so sick of the water carrying for clinton and the lies spin and sicrediting of obama
"I'm not trying to smear him. But when analysts point to flaws in Obama's campaign, they're too often dismissed as Clinton shills, or worse"
I'm done with salon. I know I am only one reader but I used to come here daily. No more. I am so sick of the clinton machine. How is what you people do any differant than fox? Please explain it to me. Clinton is gop. Walsh and salon lost a reader with their constant nonsensacal attacks DAILY on my candidate.
Obama is just a man. he is not the devil. he has done nothin gto justify the hatred he recieves other than try and change this countries direction after bush/clinton, which are the same. What does he get for his trouble? What does this american patriot get in return? Obma is not the movement. He is the face of it. When all you clinton supporters were authorizing bush's criminality and hiding in fear some stood up to save our country. WAs that the moderates or where they behind bush?
to sabotage obama is to sabotage his people and this country. Clinton won califronia because of old ladies, illegals and the norman hsu's of the world. Will they be there in 8 years? 16? Think about the future. To sabotage obama is to sabotage the future.
Clinton is bush. they are endebted to the same people. So to fight bush all these years and then back clitnon makes walsh and the rest of the clinton cult hypocrites.
You lost one viewer for good. What is a journalist with zero credibility? A propogandists? YEs you are mrs walsh. histroy will remember your treason
