Go-bama
I just saw the most amazing ending to a Superbowl EVER.
Amazing comeback... just awesome.
I hope Obama does what the Giants just did.

Sure, free to f things up
You know, when we place a banner of great wisdom on a talk show host who spends her time in admiration of John Travolta and Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, we are truly in trouble. Sure, she gives to charities and conducts herself well in public - but deep wisdom? Honey...
I'm sure she's outraged that anyone DARE question her or have a different viewpoint and is used to keeping people on a leash. Hell, she has all her employees sign loyalty oaths stopping their free speech, while she lectures off about free speech and being "free."
It's outrageous that she has seen herself as a Kingmaker. It's not a surprise that since Obama is local Chicago, that she sees herself as a key part of grooming the younger, good-looking man for power. Hillary is a serious candidate and sees Oprah as a peer, not a goddess. Oprah is not a deity and Obama is not the next messiah.

Oprah Should stay out of politics
Oprah's intrusion into Obama's campaign will backfire on her candidate Obama. His advisors are in error to put her out front.
Many people dislike Oprah exactly for the point you mentioned Joan, her being incensed that anyone would question her choices.
Her '"legends" of women evening' was mostly all black women. It is clear that she pushes 'race.' And she has said as much on air with Tiger Woods, who for some reason she thinks is black, and claims as 'one of her own,' and also with Chris Rock in the early days of his career. Lots of, 'do us proud, do your people proud' coming from Oprah toward black entertainers
Her tv audience is mostly white and fawning, it is true. Her give away show that is an annual event, is like a display of obcene materialism that makes any evenly balanced person question, What's wrong with her?
I dont have a dog in either fight, Hillary or Obama. I wish them both well. But Oprah and her sex scandal at her Girl's School in Africa that is not just outfitted, but outfitted like The Four Seasons, a school she swore up and down would never allow the children to be harmed ... we just cannot have gilt and backwoods Oprah's idea of glamour and 'what is right' be near this most critical election.
Oprah's love of Scientology and the two actors who are Scientologists who she lauds on her shows time and again, ought to be reason enough for Obama and his wife to think twice about having her near. That's all Obama needs is to have rumor mongers say he's close to that group that has so much controversy following them around worldwide.
Oprah came to 9-11 memorial to speak. Oprah came to New Orleans after the levees broke to speak. In both places, there was much remarking afterward that she was just another of the celebrities horning in, that she goes nowhere without cameras to record how 'generous' she is.
Most people who give, dont think of it as a publicity stunt for themselves.
I see your points Joan, but I think the angle you propose seems filled with too much awe instead of deep analysis of motive.
I like reading your stuff

First Off, Dick Cheney?
Okay, what was that about?
And while I don't begrudge Oprah not being a traitor for not voting for woman, isn't it a bit disingenuous to suggest that Obama being black has NOTHING to do with her choice? Which loyalty are we talking here? It seems to me, she's still choosing because of a loyalty. Maybe she could be just a TAD more honest.
And what reality or sanity is there behind driver's license for undocumented workers? What? Will the INS look the other way when they are issued? Like this is really possible. Furthermore, what happens when one of these undocumented workers get into an accident? This is a recipe for disaster. This is Obama pandering to get the Latino vote. This is someone who will promise and say whatever people what to hear to get elected. Period.
What is hope if it's just fluffy promises filled with air?

I will indeed
When John McCain is inaugerated I will consider it the second election she willfully handed the Republicans.
First she invited George Bush on her show as the compassionate conservative to help him with the woman vote in Bush v Gore, remember. She gave him an entirely free pass to paint himself as something very different than the facts and records showed.
Now she's promoted an amateur rookie with enough skeletons in his closet to pave a federal interstate with and whom the Republicans will clean the clocks of as our candidate. Or at minimum even if he doesn't become our candidate will leave the candidate who would have won in landslide crippled and our vote fractured. (Heck before the Oprah and Obama show Mrs. Clinton was leading by double digits in KENTUCKY, for heavens sakes).
It must be nice to have the money and free license to hypocrisy that Oprah has. But let's not pretend she's worried about blacks. She's no more worried about what will happen to already dying and struggling black America now than she was when she decided to open a multi-million dollar school for the poor in a foreign country.

For once I sympathize with Oprah
As a white progressive feminist probably voting for Obama, I've already gotten nasty e-mails calling me, among other things, "naive", a "traitor", etc. From New York State NOW, I got this gem: "Goodbye to some young women eager to win male approval by showing they’re
not feminists (at least not the kind who actually threaten thestatus quo),
who can’t identify with a woman candidate because she actually is unafraid
of eeueweeeu yucky power, who fear their boyfriends might look at them
funny if they say something good about her. Goodbye to women of any age
again feeling unworthy, sulking “what if she’s not electable?” or “maybe
it’s post-feminism and whoooosh we’re already free.” Let a statement by the
magnificent Harriet Tubman stand as reply. When asked how she managed to
save hundreds of enslaved African Americans via the Underground Railroad
during the Civil War, she replied bitterly, “I could have saved
thousands—if only I’d been able to convince them they were slaves.” "
I genuinely RESENT the guilt-trip gender card that my formerly respected feminist friends are playing so threateningly. Give me a break! Like Oprah, I'm a well-educated and thoughtful person who has made up her own mind. I'm not voting for Obama so my "boyfriend won't look at me funny". God, what an insult. Sometimes I think feminists themselves can't handle a female cnadidacy. At least not HRC's...
