Sorry, You're Off the Mark
I've got no favourite in this race, Zoe: if its Hilary in the general, she's got my vote. Same with Edwards and Obama now that the Republicans have shown themselves to be manifestly incompetent as well as hopelessly locked in ideological cement.
I believe my analysis is spot on: Senator Clinton is no more deserving of sainthood as Obama is of being one leg of the Holy Trinity [an observation I thought was pretty clear in the paragraph from which you drew the quote]. Again, the Clintons had to remove the patina from Obama's candidacy and they did it any way they could--and much of it with an eye not only toward Hilary Clinton's candidacy but on the November elections, as well [the Clinton apparatchiks, like most Democrats have a sense of urgency about seizing the White House, they feel the country can no longer afford a Republican presidency coupled with the fact that they, the Clinton people, believe they know the electorate]. Better to hit Obama now, given the particulars of his candidacy than have the country awake from the blissfulness of self-delusion over its feelings on race and revert to type in the voting booth, they feel.
One more word: Matthews may be an insufferable egotist and a chauvinist [I can't tell the number of times I've winced at his treatment of women guests] but he's dead on about what the Clinton machine was attempting to do, here.
