New Hampshire Dems judged Clinton best qualified to be commander in chief. Working class voters backed her. So why does everyone want to talk about her tears? Plus: The Clintons and race.

We as democrats must be honest. Hillary threw a gender-driven pity party for herself in New Hampshire in a desperate attempt to hang on to her nomination chances. Doing so further diminished her general election chances. My high opinion of Senator Obama would disappear if he, when on the verge of elimination, blamed his racial background for his situation. I have always been for him as an individual, not as a useful vessel to achieve the worthy symbolic outcome of electing an african-american president. My impression is that Joan Walsh and many others have it the other way around.

Hillary's nomination would (in order of ascending importance), severely diminish the reputation of the the Clinton political enterprise, reduce drastically the Democratic Party's chances in the general election, and (if she somehow squeeks through) guarantee a much tougher time for the Democratic agenda in Congress.
