NRO's Jim Geraghty is still upset about our Rudy story, and so is Tucker Carlson! Plus: I'm on "Hardball" tonight.

  • Go Joan!

    Get 'em!

  • I Enjoyed

The 2001 World Series.........You just know after the dramatic Yankee homers to come back from 2 games to none to take a 3-2 lead that Rudy thought God was buddying up to New York and himself against the terrorists. Then the Yankees blow a 9th inning lead in game 7 with Mariano Rivera in his prime on the mound.......And they've been knocked out of the playoffs every year since.

  • Can anyone explain

how tucker carlson got a tv show? I realize that you don't need to be intelligent, informed, or concerned with pesky things like truth or integrity, but sheesh...

I suppose there's the necessary element of being somewhat telegenic (I just have to look good I, I don't have to be clear) though Bill-O pretty much ruins that theory.

I don't watch Tucker's show, but have heard and seen enough to know that there's no point in it. Does he still wear that ridiculous bow tie? He looks like a little boy who is trying to dress like his grandpa.

  • how tucker carlson got a tv show?

    How about Glenn Beck?

  • Tucker frequently inaccurate

The most recent time I can think of is when he described John Kerry as "crying" about his decision not to run for President again. Kerry was not crying. He got a little choked up. And it was when he was talking about his antiwar activity, not when he was talking about not running, or the last time he ran.

The first time I can think of is when he was my teammate in high-school debate and routinely made up "facts" and citations to support his arguments.

  • We all have our reasons, Joan, don't we?

Of course Tucker has been inaccurate himself, but one particular time stands out for me: When he had me on his show last year to attack Salon for running the second set of Abu Ghraib photos, he insisted their publication would lead to anti-American violence.

And I insisted that their publication amounted to amazing hypocrisy, since Salon refused to give Arnold the tiniest bity of credit for his efforts to solve the human rights problems in California prisons.

And you never criticized Gray Davis for all the many things he did to help those problems escalate out of control.

As long as we're all keeping score here on the different reasons people might have for criticizing you on Abu Ghraib.

I wonder if there are any photos anywhere of California prisoners dying in the prison infirmary from conditions that aren't normally fatal on the outside.

  • fervently left-wing?

Maybe left wing in the recent years, but anyone who speaks against the administration's various lies, corruptions, and abuses of power is viewed as left wing. If a dem gets elected prez, then salon will still report the truth and will appear as somewhat right wing. Recall that salon was not too gentle with clinton when he sat in the big chair. That was during Dave Talbot's watch though.

It is amazing that standing for the truth can make you left wing one day and right wing the next.

  • @Silenced

"And I insisted that their publication amounted to amazing hypocrisy, since Salon refused to give Arnold the tiniest bity[sic] of credit for his efforts to solve the human rights problems in California prisons."

That has to be the biggest red herring I've read in a long time. First of all, what does Arnold have to do with Abu Graib? Secondly, are you saying that Salon has to investigate and uncover every instance of prison abuse and torture in the world, to avoid being "amazing[ly]" hypocritical in your mind? That's ridiculous.

  • media whore...

I find it disgusting that you waste your time bickering with those morons... honestly, you should be ashamed.

  • Hmm

Well I watched you on Hardball, and I saw you were from salon.com. I frequent the news, but I gotta be honest and I thought this was a joke of a site when I heard the name. I didn't totally disagree with you when you were talking about the Vietnam and Iraq comparison I am 21 years old and a History minor, and I am kind of insulted when someone says you don't have a right to talk about a subject, because you didn't live during the time or serve during the time. I have family members who served in Vietnam, and I think they would say I know probably as much about Vietnam as anyone else. I think the President has the right to say what he did, even if he didn't serve in Vietnam. I have been saying from the beginning that you can't compare the two wars, because they are totally different. Once again I feel it is the press that has totally changed the peoples view of the war, and they will always show a slanted picture.

  • Nip/ Tuck

I wouldn't worry about that mophead Tucker Carlson. He is an unwatchable blowhard with the lowest rated show on MSNBC. It's well past time he is replaced, hopefully by Rachel Maddow or Stephanie Miller.

BTW HARDBALL is also unwatchable, except when Joan is on and Chris Matthews is on vacation. I frequently miss the first few minutes of Keith Olbermann, because I'm afraid of tuning in early and catching even a glimpse of Matthews.

  • @arumpeltes...hm.

Let's see, you're 21, a history *minor* and your relatives would say you "know as much about Vietnam as anyone." As much as Neil Sheehan? As much as James Webb? As much as some know-nothing ditto-head from Anaheim...? -- Ah. There we go.

I'm thinkin' the joke around here is not Salon.

(and, actually, for the record, the wars are not all that different, at least, in terms of our involvement, and the political situation we face. The only difference would be, probably, that Vietnam was FAR simpler, politically. We were incredibly stupid to get involved in both wars, and now we face a completely unsalvagable situation in Iraq, just as we did in Vietnam...and the only solution to both wars was to make deals we refused--and refuse--to make. We could have ended this mess years ago by making deals with Syria and Iran. Even with the grotesque mistakes we made, like disbanding the Iraqi army and de-Baathifying the government. We could have ended Vietnam by making a deal with Ho...the same deal we ultimately made years later, after thousands more deaths. Read your history, history minor)
