Ann Coulter gets what she deserves

A good thumping from Elizabeth Edwards on "Hardball"

I love you, Elizabeth Edwards!

Why, why, why is she the one who gets stage 4 cancer, huh? Coulter is certainly much more worthy.

Sick woman

It is a sad day in US media when Ann Coulter becomes a political voice for any side. Shame on Chris Matthews for being a ratings whore! How can a show about politics bring Ann Coulter? Disgraceful at all levels!

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 04:48 PM

About Coulter:

What can the upbringing of this maggot of a woman have been that she attacks people about those sensitive things about which they are grieving -- about which they will always grieve? Widows who have lost their husbands in the worst terrorist attack on our country? A mother and a father who grieve the loss of a child? What parent ever completely gets over the loss of a child?

What kind of whore would make her living off the dead flesh of others and then claim it is because she wants to sell books? When I was a child we said that people who were exploitative of others "had no decent rearing." Who reared this creature? Does someone actually claim her as their child? What did they do to her? Molest her in her crib? Beat her with a board? Lock her in closet?

I wish I knew because I would like to think that no human being was beyond sympathy and understanding. I would like to think that monsters do not really exist.

Next time, Edwards in-studio.

I'm kind of disappointed. I was hoping this was about Elizabeth and Ann on the same stage. THAT would have been great stuff, watching that freak get all squirmy.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 04:51 PM

Yes!

Elizabeth Edwards does rock, Joan. This report brings a tiny bit of joy to my overburdened mind.

Score one for the side of justice!

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 05:00 PM

Thank you for covering this

Perhaps if more candidates confronted her in this manner, she'd be defanged. Edwards stayed on message, and Matthews, for his sins, did call her out for the personal attacks on Clinton and others in the MSNBC video I saw. Video that mysteriously disappeared from the front page, I might add.

Coulter's tactic of distract and dissemble did not work. Edwards stayed on task.

By the way, where were Stacy and Clinon? If what Coulter was wearing was age appropriate and professional, I'll eat my hat.

What scared me were the kids who did NOT applaud Edwards. The vast majority did; but look at the video again. Several prominent ones in the front did not. If some students are getting the message this behavior is acceptable, we need to knock that out of their heads. No where, in no time, will personal attacks like the ones COulter engages in be acceptable among people with home training. SOme things are unacceptable, and need to be treated as such. I fear the students who sat ont heir hands and looked uncomfortable will be the next name callers.

Everyone who is standing up for Edwards -- I want to know

Does he really believe we can win the War on Drugs by increasing drug penalties and cramming more drug users into our already overcrowded jails and prisons?

I want to know if the man is really that stupid.

Is he?

Why was my letter deleted?

Did Vladimir Putin just take over Salon?

From Joan Walsh

"Anonymous" (and I know who this anonymous is), I deleted one of your three letters because it was utterly off-topic.

Body Image

Coulter calls Hilary's legs chubby, (when name-calling Coulter has a chubby adams apple, the widest clavicle and the skinniest lips on air). She wears the same skimpy black dress to every event, but she can't divert us from the fact that she's the meanest person in our public discourse. The scariest part of the Hardball interview was the group of right-wing kids (flaks) cheering her on like a bunch of smug Elizabeth Hasselbecks. I kept thinking "Nazis."

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 05:12 PM

amazing

Now if someone would just whack Matthews upside the head with a shovel. I love you, Elizabeth.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 05:14 PM

And you control the topics Joan, how convenient

Why don't you just admit you were wrong?

You think you can ignore the small facts and still make people care about the big ones?

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 05:32 PM

much as I enjoy seeing Elizabeth Edwards putting the smackdown on Ann Coulter ...

I'm utterly distracted by the fact that Coulter seemingly accused Elizabeth Edwards of psychically pandering to illiterate juries. This looks, um, less than sane on Coulter's part. Like, more than usually unhinged.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 05:34 PM

"Coulter calls Hilary's legs chubby" ...

Ann Coulter is a scary sight... we need to get her spindly, bony ass to a gym. She's like the anorexic girls who always badmouthed the normal, healthy looking girls as "fat".

She just radiates prep school, "I summer in the Hahmptons" dweeby privilege. I couldn't believe it when I saw her on TV.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 05:46 PM

as good as any...

There is really no good way to deal with the Coulter phenonmenon, this will have to do. Matthews, no doubt sensing a sea change; set her up just as he groveled before her last time. Too bad the Jersey Girls, who suffered Coulter's foulest and most unforgivable insults, were not so avenged.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 05:48 PM

Maybe there's hope?

Not until Coulter and her peers are no longer given media time to voice their inflammatory rhetoric. If that's all Matthews has to offer, I won't even bother starting to watch him.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 06:15 PM

A thumping?

Edward's voice was miked so low, hecklers in the audience we able to step over her.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 06:21 PM

Not Nearly Enough Of A Thumping But...

It makes my day. Coulter also avoided a promised appearance on Thom Hartmann's Air America radio show on Monday. Once ducked Joe Conason in a televised debate, too.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 06:28 PM

Way to go Mrs. Edwards

I have never heard Elizabeth Edwards speak but in the few short minutes of this video clip I am impressed with her courage, dignity and class. In 3 odd minutes she showed more humanity and grace than Ann Coulter has shown over 3 years total. I know Mrs. Coulter probably exagerates her poistions for comedic effect and shock value but joking about a fellow human beings tragically dead child is a line that shouldn't be crossed.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 06:32 PM

Question

Joan, would I be considered a misogyist if I pointed out that Ann Coulter was a scum-sucking moron who deserves to die in a fire?

Just checking.....

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 06:40 PM

Ann Coulter is an Abyssmal Human Being

Nothing more to say.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 06:40 PM

Thank you

Mrs Edwards. You define "class". (While Ms Coulter defines "trash"). You had he on the ropes (did you see how she played with her hair? And that mock-mock-nervous giggle?) It's a small victory, but it was a great moment for truth an integrity over hateful deceit.

(And thanks, Joan, for the link. I'd made my husband turn the tv off before Mrs Edwards called in).
