Camille--
Your response to the letter about Sarah Palin was laughably misinformed.
1.That pipeline project is far from a success or even a done deal. It's going to take at least ten years for it to carry oil.
2. Sarah is lacking far, far more than a cadre of trusted pros. She succeeded in low-level politics by knowing when to use an inflection in politics to turn on her mentors and colleagues to pronounce that she was jumping out of the politics-as-usual box for the good of the people. You can't do that at the national level more than once or twice. It didn't go so well for John McCain when he suspended his campaign, did it?
3. You describe Palin's virtues as "her complete freedom from routine micromanagement and business as usual." Yeah. That's the kind of person I want running the federal government. Someone who trusts his gut, listens to God whispering in his ear, and always takes the game-changing choice! Oh wait--that didn't work for "43"...
Gee Camille, would it be OK if we had a competent President? Because the country and hell, the WORLD need that. Sarah Palin will never be competent. The women bolts whenever she has to do the grunt work in her jobs.
4. Wake up, you homer. Palin did not clean Biden's clock. How many drinks did you have while watching that debate? The woman didn't even answer half the questions asked of her. And guess what, Camille: Purdum didn't invent the words of the McCain campaign staffers or Alaskan politicians.
Sarah expended all of her political capital and alienated most of the GOP establishment who came in contact with her. Having the support of AM talk show yammerheads won't get you elected to the Oval Office.
Say, are you sleeping with Bill Kristol? Or actually Bill Kristol in bad drag? Either possibility would explain a lot.
Thanks for summing up this whole Palin bullshit nonsense in one sentence: "Whether Palin has a national future or not will depend on her willingness to hit the books at some point and absorb more information about international history and politics than she has needed to know in her role as governor."
NOT GONNA HAPPEN, CAMILLE. She's never done that before and she sure isn't going to start now. Don't confuse an ability to play to a crowd with education, experience, the desire to hammer out complex policy and the political skills to bring people together.
Say goodbye to your pop-star politician. She is DONE.
I suppose it would be pointless to refer to the polls saying Biden won... not to mention the fact that Palin actually looked in the camera and said she was going to ignore questions that she didn't want to answer...
Jesus, you old bag, why are you still here? GO AWAY! GO AWAY! BY ALL THAT'S HOLY, GO THE FUCK AWAY!!!!!!!
Which tells you everything you need to know about Camille's grip on reality.
I had heard that Camille Paglia was a real commentator-truthful, unafraid, refreshing. This Palin article proves it. Not the least bit afraid of those "preening bullies, cackling witches, twisted cynics and pompous windbags" she describes the current news media to a tee.
Thanks again, Camille, for being fair and sane in such an insane media world!
What? How can she possibly self-identify as a democrat?
I recall reading an interview with Camille Paglia. She said that she has sort of a gay man's way of looking at things. I disagree. There isn't much "gay man" in her viewpoints.
If Camille ever leaves Salon and joins another publication, I'd like to suggest Newsmax.
Ms. Paglia,
As a regular listener to Rush Limbaugh, I am continually reminded on why he holds you in such high regard. We know that our politics don't align, yet you continue to keep a level head. Having read Maureen Dowd's Sunday op-ed on Palin in the last 24 hours, your piece is a very refreshing and objective.
We may never vote for the same people, but I will remain a fan of your work.
Thank you for the fresh air!
Paglia's discussion of Matthew Shepard was one of the most disgusting things I've read on-line. She first tells us that we cannot know what goes through the mind of a hate criminal. Fine, I can believe that we can't. In her next sentences, she then tells us what went on in their minds. Unless she's channeling the amazing Kreskin, she doesn't know either.
She says that the 2 murderers did not necessarily mean to kill Shepard. Really, did they think that beating, torturing, pistol whipping, and strapping him to a fence post might hurt? It certainly looks like intent to the rest of us. They hit him so hard that they fractured his skull. The crime was brutal, and her assertions are absurd.
Finally, she wants to play "blame the victim." Why did Shepard leave with these two thugs? This is a slippery slope that leads to suggestions that rape victims deserved it because of where they were or what they were wearing.
There's no excuse for this type of sloppy opinion pieces on Salon or anywhere else. No facts, no credibility, and just what I've come to expect of Paglia.
The Sarah Palin haters will condemn her no matter if she served her full term as Alaska’s Governor (she’s exploiting her role as Governor!) or if she resigns from office (she’s a quitter!). You can’t win with some people, and I think this is why Palin decided to carry on as a private citizen rather than as a public official.
For example, a photograph of Palin holding a fish triggered a frivolous ethics complaint that cost the Palins and Alaska taxpayers thousands of dollars. When Palin is a private citizen, those out to destroy her can no longer misuse ethics rules to harrass her -- and they can be counter-sued. Pretty smart when you think about it.
You are the only liberal worth reading. The rest of the ilk are just not worth my time. From their current hero, the big O, to the to the subhuman filth at kos, they daily demonstrate the ethics and morals of Stalin and Mao. They know they are lying. They know they are being vicious. They know what they are doing is wrong, but they do it.
I will demonstrate the kind of thing I am talking about using Maureen Dowd because she has written another hit piece on Palin
There was a time years ago when Maureen Dowd could get a good price, but that was years ago. Her failed pitiful life is epitomized by the last guy who paid her the two bits she charged and then had to pay the doctor a lot more. She really is foul and obnoxious, but then Maureen's leftist world is nothing but Johns, pimps and whores.
This is the type of thing spewed by the left at its highest paid (Letterman). Palin has what they don't, integrity, honesty, and honor. Her whole life demonstrates the best qualities we have as humans; just as their lives demonstrate what failure means. The responses to this letter from the monsters of the left will prove my point.
