God told me

That if we don't stop poisoning the atmosphere, he's going to flood the earth again.

Atmospherics

Actually, objective, WE as in the USA and industrialized countries, are doign quite well--the air and water quality is BETTER now than decades ago.

If God floods the Earth,

then he'll abort the unborn!

Here's one thing that puzzles me about the term, unborn. If we're going to call fetuses what they might be one day, why not call them the "undead," since we'll all be dead one day, one way or another.

Always a double standard

While the media crawled all over Sarah Palin for her speech patterns we now see that Prez-BO is rather lacking when not reading from a teleprompter. While Caroline Kennedy has mastered the "you know" - BO has shown in the text version of the interview with Couric (I can't bear to listen to her) that the totally un-necessary word "so" creep in over and over again. Makes him sound a little bit like those California Mall Rats.

Now we also see that Prez-BO's choice for Attorney General may get a pass on not PAYING TAXES - but Clinton's choice of 2 different WOMEN for this position were burned at the stake in the same process due to failure to pay Social Security and other taxes on nanny's or housekeepers.

Why does this man who has never held a REAL job or had to make a payroll or sweat over where his next mortgage payment comes from GET SPECIAL TREATMENT?? And obviously his wife fall into that same category - her big buck job at a Hospital that required a HUGE bonus because it was so important - is being eliminated now that she resigned.

We now look forward to 4 years of Jimmy Carter II economically and host of Clinton re-treads looking to double dip on their government pension. CHANGE - NO WHERE IN SIGHT.

Real Jobs

The entire government is comprised almost exclusively of people who have never held a real job, never produced goods for a profit--have done nothing but make decisions on how to appropriate and spend OTHER PEOPLE's MONEY.

WHY, on why, do we think LAWYERS know how to run businesses and direct our lives? Lawyers are, by nature and training, players in a zero-sum game wherein they look for victims and assign guilt to somebody. THIS IS NOT REAL LIFE!

The business sector is not zero-sum. The economy can be GROWN, producing more for all, rather than causing it to stagnate by taking from the productive and redistributing wealth to those who have not demonstrated any propensity to utilize the wealth properly. Buying bling does not help the economy significantly.

A bigger widescreen does not benefit the economy all that much.

Investing, inventing, growing a business--these things benefit the economy. Relatively mindless consuming is not the answer.

Sailfree

When it comes to bashing Paglia supporters in this letter column, it's not so much for their views but for their unbelievability. Cf Miss Butterfly and similar. These are not Real Letters written by Real People. (No other writer on Salon elicits this kind of letter - only Paglia.)

REAL JOBS?

What is a real job? who defines that, who watches those real jobs, so those that are toiling in them are getting a fair wage for their work and who determines that? Is it fair that the greed that ran rampant from 2000 until now go unpunished and the ungodly wealth that was accumulated in such an unseemly manor under the cover of terror, be left to the crooks that looted these Corporations and Banks? Most of those domestic terrorists{thats what they are}- are Lawyers and who do you need to watch Lawyers, Joe the moron Plumber? No I think you need Lawyers!

Renegade Iconoclast

Thank you. I will save this formula and try a few next month. Or maybe try it for lib VP.

Camille, you are so [incredibly inane]!

You are not at all like the rest of the [compassionate, intelligent] liberals, you have such a [shit-for-] brain that they just can't understand you.

Please keep showing up the [realistic yet good-hearted] liberals. Stay [bat-shit crazy]!

[Can't wait to read your ravings again next month!]

Science is an infocracy, goddamnit

"Until I see stronger evidence, I will continue to believe that climate change is primarily driven by solar phenomena and that it is normal for the earth to pass through major cooling and warming phases."

Exactly what evidence have you seen, Camille? Have you read, cover to cover, the IPCC report and most of the studies it cites, as I have? Have you the necessary contextual information and background to evaluate the science?

Until and unless you do, those of us who've done our homework are gonna tell you and every other self-anointed "global warming skeptic" to cram it. So cram it. That's right, shut up. I make absolutely no apology for telling you that your opinion is worthless. Science isn't a democracy - it's an infocracy, where information rules, so either bone up or accept your peonage.
