Nobody's dummy

Liberals underestimate Sarah Palin's vitality and -- yes -- smarts at their own peril. Plus: Obama's presidential air, Biden's condescending mugging, feminism's lost sisters.

The letters thread is now closed.

No, those words do not show an intelligent woman speaking. Those words show a woman who does not even know how to speak properly.

George Bush was a govenor.

All Sarah Palin has proved is that she is god at trying to manipulate people and the truth, to serve her own political power and interests.

She is George Bush in designer skirts.

the brain cells are dying

If you'd written that the Palins were 'powerful new symbols of a revived Christo-fascism' you would have been on to something but as it stands your statement contains three glaring inaccuracies. First of all, you include the 'first dude' in your feminist utopia. He's a feminist? And you base this on what? Feminism has been revived? In what universe? Powerful? Not really, not unless she gets into the White House and then you'll have something even more like a scene out of 'Deliverance' than you already do. I have to keep reminding myself that the Republicans are the people who thought Bill Clinton was unfit to be President because he was 'white trash'. What they really hated about him was that he was good looking, charismatic, a Democrat and really, really intelligent.'Smarts'is not quite the same thing as intelligent, is it? A sausage dog is smart but you wouldn't want it to be Vice President or (be afraid) President. In terms of intelligence Bill and Hillary Clinton make the Palins look like a couple of drop outs trying to pass a university entrance exam. And come on, Paglia, you bloody know it! Unless senility's setting in, in which case you can't be blamed.

A quick thank-you to Salon

I'd just like to say thanks again for helping me stay within my budget. Every time I start thinking about becoming a subscriber, you publish more of Camille's idiocy and remind me of exactly what my subscription dollars would be supporting.

I'd really like to subscribe so I can help support people like Glenn Greenwald and Joe Conason, but I won't give you a nickel that might wind up in Camille's pocket.

attn, Salon editors.

Being stupid and making convoluted, barely-intelligible, self-contradictory, self-serving statements does not make you somehow secretly brilliant. It's not true of Palin and it's not true of Paglia. You wouldn't want Palin running the country... why are you paying Paglia for her verbal diarrhea?

@BeverlyJRaffaele

Hmmm, many people pay for college with help of student loans. As far as the house, book deal, two salary household, yes his wife is an earner too, and its not that difficult to see that they purchased a house well within their means...

Take a second and do some research on your own, and you'll be amazed that the answers are easily available, unless of course you were tried to spread seeds of suspicion, well, then of course its much more effective to put the question out there knowing that some people probably won't bother to look it up, and will believe it by virtue of having read it somewhere.

Madonna? again? really?

I agree with the obsevers that Paglia writes about Palin like she has a big ol crush. Whatever.

Im more amused by the random rabling jibberish Paglia's typically puts at teh end of her routine, but couldnt get that far this time. THe Palin shock schtick bogged me down. then I hit that brick wall. MADONNA. Its like when old timers bring up Elvis, or some old tacky has been that was once a sex symbol. Does Paglia have to bring up that same 20+ year old, played out, shock-the-feminists joke in all of her rants?

I was worried that Paglia wouldnt make the Drudgelist. She fell in her ranking but is still on there. should have made her whole rant a love letter to palin. maybe next time.

madonna madonna madonna.

I am sick sick sick of this! Stop!

You weenies who keep kvetching about Palin followers shouting death threats. This is either feigned, manipulative outrage (who do you think you are minippulating, a bunch of idiots with IQ's in the 80's?) or it is just that you are a bunch of panty waist wusses?

If you are so worried about violence, and inflammatory rhetoric, why aren't you worried about Obama's church, with people jumping up and down when the minister shouted, "God Damn America." If you don't think there's a high level of incipient violence stirred up by the rhetoric of Obama's neighbor, Louis Farrakhan, you are either kidding yourselves or you are total hypocrits.

What about Bill Ayers and Bernadette Dhorn, guys? Is their rhetoric OK.

Tell me you are real concerned, that exactly four weeks from today, violence will really bother you if, at that time, entire neighborhoods are burning and scores of people are getting killed, if your Messiah, B H Obama, has lost the election. I have a feeling that if it is not your neighborhood that is burning down, you just might take some satisfaction in thar.

On the other hand, the blue collar folks in West Florida who cheered for Palen, will not be burning, looting, trashing cars and murdering innocent motorists and pedestrians, if their candidates loose. They'll have to get to work on time the next day, because they have bills to pay.

@Camille P.

Put away your Madonna

And your Camille's 60's golden old

And listen to the sound of the 13th Floor Elevators

And their song "Monkey Island"

From the now forgotten

60's Underground fold....

"I'm livin' on a monkey island

Right in the middle of a zoo

I'm livin' on a monkey island

Pretendin' to be a monkey too..."

Sarah Palin is a provincial twat,

And your school girl crush on her

Really says a whole lot.

Joan Walsh

Dear Joan,

I never heard of you before today. I apologize for my frankness but I realize that my request may seem forward, considering that I know little about you. I infer that you have the power to keep or discard Camille Paglia. Please do not listen to the Philistines who wish for you to sack Camille. She is a very good writer(I laugh to read the good folks who criticize her writing style) and she is an independent thinker. God bless her. I guess that my belief in God disqualifies me for any consideration as a person with a formidable intellect, but I press on regardless of my infirmity. So please save Camille, Joan.

Yours truly.
