Nobody's dummy

Liberals underestimate Sarah Palin's vitality and -- yes -- smarts at their own peril. Plus: Obama's presidential air, Biden's condescending mugging, feminism's lost sisters.

The letters thread is now closed.

Why does CP always lapse into pop culture when talking politics?

Sure Taylor, Deneuve and Aimee were gorgeous, but WTF does that have to do with women's rights? How are they relevant to issues like access to reproductive care and wage parity? When we discuss issues of children's health and well-being, such as poverty, abuse and education, do we start referencing Gary Coleman and Punky Brewster?

Jesus, she's irrelevant. She should just pack it up and move to "People" or "Us".

Obama's money

How did Obama pay for college and for his 1.5 million dollar house? That is what I want to know. He had been in public service his whole career. That doesn't make one rich.

Accomplishments of an unintelligent woman??

This is a woman who rose from a non-privileged background to be the governor of a state. She ran for governor in the face of opposition from the entrenched establishment and defeated them. In office she defied a corrupt business and political establishment to place the state oil revenues in savings accounts for the benefit of the citizens, rather than into slush funds for pork projects. She negotiated a multi-billion dollar natural gas pipeline deal with Canada on terms that benefit the citizens - a deal that had been held up for years because of corrupt politicians in bed with oil companies and other business interests.

Yeah, seems dumb to me.

I found Paglias drivel insulting during the primaries,

but this sewage..calling that neo-Nazi trailer tramp a feminist, is beyond the pale. Joan Walsh, I blame you for this. Paglia is an insane menace, and you keep her on...I guess to stir controversy. You are worse than Roger Ailes. I have to think you are angling for a job at Fox News. Screw the both of you.

c`mon,lunatics....our only hope to survive this worldwide miasma is to elect bark obama...let`s not get so bogged down in minutia; he`s a brilliant and honest fellow and will make us a proud place again....mccain has thrown honor to the wind in a desperate attempt to impress his friends-or someone...someone assinine.

Paglia Disappoints Again

I've been a fan of Ms. Paglia's columns for several years, and I admire her non-conformist streak, but I don't understand her fascination with Sarah Palin. I think Paglia's ongoing war with what she calls "mainstream feminism" has seriously compromised her judgment. Or maybe she's just trying to make the Drudgereport. In any case, her arguments for Palin are not in accordance with the reality of the campaign, where Palin's supporters have made death threats against Obama and uttered racist slurs. Is this the "new feminism" that Paglia is celebrating? Paglia has diminished herself.

Never thought she was dumb...

just not ready for the national scene. And definitely not ready to be a substitute president. I watched the debate and decided her next step should be the Alaska state legislature. I don't support her views and I find her overuse of the 'joe six pack', etc. colloquialisms a real turn off.

Terrible column

This columnist is saying not to question the intelligence of somone (Palin) who:

1.) apparently isn't very well-read,

2.) can't name a Supreme Court decision with which she disagrees (besides the obvious Rove v. Wade), and

3.) doesn't know her own candidate's record.

Camille: Sarah's Own Words Defy You

You, and her words, are not in "agreement." If this is what you call "smarts," what do you call "dumbs."

For real, Sarah gave an impromptu press conference on the plane:

"Americans are caring about the problems in the economy, of course, and wanting to know what those long-term solutions are that our ticket can provide and what the other ticket is proposing, so when you talk though about what it is that we are proposing and what it is that Barack Obama is proposing, again it is relevant to connect that association that he has with Ayers -- not so much he as a person Ayers, but the whole situation and the truthfulness and the judgment there that you must question if again he’s not being forthright in all of his answers as to how did you know him, when did you know him, why would you continue to be associated with him? It makes you wonder about the forthrightedness, the truthfulness of the plans that he is telling America in regards to the economic recovery because that is first and foremost on Americans’ minds."

"I think Barack was even less candid than usual, which I was kinda surprised. But McCain has fought on and sounded very energized, and, and it was a good night for him, for all of us, for all of America.”

Camille, you will never find happiness this way.

It's time to realign your intellect with the simple truth. You'll feel better.

It's like you're using your power to serve the dark side.

Re:Sarah's own words...

Luminescence - Yes. those words do show an intelligent woman speaking. They don't show the glib evasineness and BS we've (unfortuanately) come to expect from our politicians. But I would think that's OK with most people.

Is part of the liberal training

to fool oneself into believing one is open to others' opinions?

It must be.

Someone else said Pags must be doing something right if there are so many writers she is annoying.

That is not quite right. Most of the half wits (who fancy themselves geniuses on here) harping on Pags have no reasoning behind their hatred of CP except that she annoys their sensibilities.

Why else read other peoples' considered opinions UNLESS it is with an open mind? I do not agree with Rush Limbaugh a lot of times either, but he is interesting and intelligent enough that I still want to hear what he has to say anyway.

Nobody can say that CP is stupid or dull, so what is your problem people?

Y'all do not want to hear anything but what you already believe or think.

I knew there was a reason I consider the left insufferable, arrogant, and closed minded. You have invested yourselves not in any intelligent, balanced lifestyle, but in some absolutist ideal that makes living impossible. No wonder you are all so angry all the time.

So have your echo chamber. I will join the REST of the country in continuing to ignore you crazed marginals.

The problem is that the marginals have had the mike for so long, they think they are somehow the majority.
