Nobody's dummy

Liberals underestimate Sarah Palin's vitality and -- yes -- smarts at their own peril. Plus: Obama's presidential air, Biden's condescending mugging, feminism's lost sisters.

The letters thread is now closed.

Palin Effect and Camile Paglia

Camile,

You read like a Post Modern atheist(which you admit to). Are we now to believe that Palin is the ideal of the Post Modern Feminist? Where is your bearing and your moral center? You don't have one and it is all too clear. What you admire about Sarah is exactly what you will never grasp. To equate Palin and Madonna as mutually exulsive yet identical ideals to be obtained and admired in the Post Modern Feminist fantasy is equivalent to stating that God and satan both reign in heavens throne room.

You reel and rock like a drunken man staggering around the mast of a ship at sea being rocked by heavy swells. You can't find your feet and your balance is lost because your blind to any moral center.

The ideal feminist is a woman and her name is Sara alright. However she was married to Abraham and Sarah Palin is only modeling what she see's in Gods very Word. It's on display for all the world to see and as the Word says, "What is to be known of God is magnified and on display in His Creation. However, the natural man goes on unseeing and not believing. He worships the creation and not the Creator having been driven mad by his own refusal to see."

Madonna and Palin? Come on are you sure having drunk deep from the well of the Harvard elites you so painfully criticize that you haven't lost all manner of intelligent discourse and any semblence to rationale thought?

Sign me disgusted you know nothing of the Palin effect.

Camille Paglia

I TRY to resist reading Camille Paglia's diatribes, however every now and then get sucked in. She has/is doing more harm to the feminist "movement" than Hugh Hefner. After reading her rnat about Sarah Palin's intelligence and sentence structure I must ask the question "Are you on crack"????

Over It

I'm afraid I owe the Salon community an apology. What I once defended in her columns as a refreshing reassessment of some of the more conceited excesses* of the left I've now come to recognize as a bogus contrarianism masquerading as "fair and balanced" editorializing. She's even adopted the tropes and cliches of a right-wing radio personality.

Maverick indeed.

It's over, Camille. I've stared at you long enough to see through you, and I stand embarrassed before God and everyone that I stared so long.

* The conceited excesses remain.

She's not dumb, just shallow

Nobody is saying she's dumb. She's a very bright woman who happens to be very shallow. It's not that she can't understand complex policies, just that she has no interest in them.

She's a mean-spirited woman who only cares about winning. The presidency is just another basketball game to her and she will stop at nothing to score that last goal.

I doubt she has a strong moral compass. Her empathy is fake, as we saw when she had no reaction to Joe Biden's account of his sons' accident (in which he also lost his wife and daughter).

She is not qualified to be president because she has no vision, no sense of where this country should be going.

She has charisma and is a very good performer, with an ability to memorize facts. But it was also clear from watching the debate that she has no idea or interest what those facts mean.

And the MSM needs to explore her ties to the Alaska Independence Party. Nothing shows the hypocrisy of Sarah Palin like her calling into question Barack Obama's patriotism when she herself sends supportive messages to seccesionist groups.

Hey had_enough

who asked: 'Can someone tell me though..did she manage to mention "Sexual Personae" again? She mentions it in every column, I wondered if she somehow snuck it in there again.'

Very surprisingly, no. She did not mention her tome. I think this might be first column in 12 or 13 that she forgot to plug the book.

I think she was overcome with the vapors for Gov. Hotbody.

Enough about Sarah Palin already

I'm so sick of Camille's Palin eulogies. Get a clue already. If this is the new hard-faced bitch feminism, then fuck feminism, just call it fascism and be done with it. Pronounce feminism dead once and for all, because clearly it has become an irrelevance if it needs re-tooling or re-definition by co-opting the likes of Palin to this dated ideology.

Besides, the only issue at hand regarding Palin doesn't pertain to feminism (RIP) but politics (RIP) and her totally phony persona and lack of ethics.

A person as demonstrably dishonest as Palin (or McCain)to me is worthless, because nothing is higher than being truthful. These assholes would choke on the truth! And I couldn't care less about their ostensible "qualities" either, because if the GOP wins and McCain should die in office(please)the amazonian wonder from Wasilla takes over, and then you'll all be fucked like you've never been fucked before: by a screeching vampire.

And Camille, BTW, you know nothing about politics or the economy. I recommend you read the works of Lyndon Larouche and you'd be surprised how on-the-money he has been over the years, like in his accurate prediction of the financial meltdown.

Larouche is a nut I hear you say? Then what the fuck is Sarah Palin?

And do you really believe Iran poses a threat to Israel? What a joke. The political elites on both sides HAVE to say it, but you? Do YOU have to placate zionists?

Example of Palin's smarts

I had an open mind until I listened to Palin speak. There are two main things she has said that convinced me.

First, she could not name any newspapers she reads. Either she doesn't read newspapers, which is kinda bad for a politician, or she wasn't smart enough to lie and just rattle off a few names. Either way, a smart person would be able to handle that question with no effort. And there is no way you can convince anyone that it's a trick question. Just name a few newspapers and explain your answer later.

The other thing she said is that living near Russia gives her experience on the international stage. From a five year old that would be cute. From a teenager that could be understood as a nervous attempt to answer a question that they weren't prepared to answer. From an adult trying to convince us that this makes sense it is pathetic. And that the party is pushing this as logical is insulting.

Paglia just makes a general statement of Palin's intelligence and then goes on to discuss superficial aspects of Palin's persona but doesn't address anything that Palin has said or done. She is taking a cue from McCain and Palin since they answer a lot of questions with vague generalities. It works well on the base and on people that want to believe. I'm convinced that Paglia falls into one of those categories.
