I swear to god this read like something from a freeper web site. Is Paglia your new conservative columnist?
Greetings
Sarah is the product of a tiny, insular and homogenous state that has a smug superiority bred of weather and frontier mentality added to the smug stunning ignorance of her Pentacostal religion
Miz sarah is a moron and perversely proud of it
is the new face of femminism, then this country if really fucked.
"And where is all that lurid sexual fantasy coming from? When I watch Sarah Palin, I don't think sex -- I think Amazon warrior!"
Um - sounds kinda like sex to me, Camille.....not that there's anything wrong with that...
I'm very sad in that I've really come not to expect much of our leadership. My problem with Sarah Palin is not that she is a narcissitic back-stabber whose primary interest is in climbing her way to the top, my problem is she's incompetent in burying the bodies - an essential skill in a narcisstic back-stabber...Borrowing from Lloyd Bentsen, "Sarah, you are no Catherine the Great."
Also, it's the nuclear age and the nuclear issue is probably the most important any leader will have to face in the immediate and coming years - let's, for the sake of any god still extant, pronounce the damned word correctly in the interests of common meaningful useage since we're all going to need to be a part of that discussion. Otherwise have the kindness to get the hell off the stage, or better yet, be yanked off with cane a la an iconic variety show's indication that one's performance is worse than subpar.
And really, Salon, Camille Paglia. She was irrelevant in the 80s and early 90s when I attended college - so many others (Pat Califia among them) - whose work Paglia essentially ripped off and badly - that you could give this space to in the interests of reducing the pablum that Paglia keeps repackaging.
Go ahead, praise Palin to high heaven. Then sit down and think about her response to the whole trans-gender thing (by the way, what happened there?) and realize that you are effectively praising a woman who will gleefully and with relish burn you at the stake.
The GOP scuttlebut is right about one thing. You Ivy League types really are elitist assholes. Those of us with our "common" state university degrees will just keep on voting our principles, while you high and mighty types enjoy playing devil's advocate and showing how "enlightened" you are. Right up there with Germaine Greer, huh? The money that bought those Ivy League degrees will make sure that you're untouched no matter what happens to the rest of us.
Our hatred and recognition of an inherent anti-intellectualism combined with the temper of a badger on speed leads us poor public school types to dislike her, your innate "superiority" and condescension elicits sympathy for the poor feminist darling. I can almost wish that you got to live under her rule for a while.
Well sure she is.
She's Sarah's dummy...dummy.
Take Palin seriously -- or overestimate her to your SHAME.
I can only conclude that Paglia must have ‘the hots’ for Sarah Palin, and in her libidinal fervor, has failed to take a clear look at the candidate. The right wing Christian milieu from which Palin draws her support goes against every ‘libertarian’, pro-pornography position Paglia has taken. It’s strange to see her so blinded by Palin, but never underestimate love’s savage fury.
Oscar
If you read Paglia in that way, you can actually enjoy her utter and total bullshit.
I wonder how long it will take. Do you think Camille tips off Rush when she's going to pen an article for Salon so that his fans come running to praise her for being the only intellectually honest liberal in the universe? She must really get off on that.
These certainly are trying times. Between the high stakes election and the global financial implosion, we're seeing craziness in many forms, from Republicans screaming, "terrorist!", to Obama supporters desperately putting faith in one man to deliver the country from ruin Yet, Camille manages to carve out a completely unique brand of madness. I know where to go when I want to know what liberals or conservatives are thinking, but who speaks for the Martians? Only Camille Paglia!
I have never agreed with anything Camille has written. I think sometimes that she is a provocateur, just to stir me up. (Well done, Camille!) This unbridled praise of the Palins astounds me. If she reads the news, Camille knows that the Palins are just chiselers and opportunists. They pay themselves to live at home, they eliminate municipal sales taxes for their own business? This is progress? In addition, they both support the AIP and the nut Joe Vogler? Please! These people are not examples for anyone to follow... I suspect that after she loses this election, this family may very well unravel in a large way.
And by the way, I think Tina Fey's witty impersonations of Palin have been fabulous. But while Fey has nailed Palin's cadences and charm, she can't capture the energy, which is a force of nature.
Any charm in Tina Fey's Sarah Palin impersonations is entirely due to Ms. Fey's own natural talent and ability and has nothing whatsoever to do with Palin. This ludicrous infatuation seems to have finally driven you over the edge into complete lunacy.
This article - with its self-absorption, its condescension, its dumb-ass ignorance masquerading as 'balance' - is a good illustration of why Salon dropped Camille Paglia the last time around, in about 2001. And why they should do so again.
C'mon, Camille, you became a caricature of yourself almost instantly after _Sexual personae_... a combination of the worst of Ms. Manners and Phyllis Schlafly.
...desperation for attention prompts Camille to do and say ridiculous things. It's kind of sad.
The last letter discusses the "repressive ideology" of certain feminists.
I laughed and sighed at the same time while reading it because that's my impression of most liberals. Very dogmatic within their ideological straight jacket.
Camille shows up every now and then with her own brand of liberalism and the freepers dog pile her. Way to show how open minded and evolved y'all are.
Keep it up Camile! Some of us love an independent voice challenging our beliefs.
