Great idea: let's steal the nomination from the black guy.
Regarding Hillary Clinton’s unwillingness to give up the fight, one can assume that at least a few members of her inner circle are aware of the insurmountable nature of the delegate mathematics. And so one also must also assume that the Clintons are not counting on the count, but instead have some confidence that they can convince the remaining uncommitted super-delegates to throw their support behind her campaign instead of Obama’s, on the basis that she is the more “electable” candidate.
In other words, Hillary’s campaign is banking on the idea that a few hundred mostly white folks will take their votes away from the black candidate and hand the nomination to the white candidate, on the basis that the white candidate is more electable, even though the black candidate has received more popular votes, and has more delegates.
What do you think the ramifications of this will be on the future of the Democratic party? And would you want to be one of these delegates, when it becomes known that you switched your vote in this manner?
Still think Hillary has a chance?

What about seeing the other's point of view?
It was hard to read all of the article because of the high level of sarcasm (which means tearing of the flesh). When I criticize someone I try to understand why certain qualities bother me so much. I wish this author would look at herself to see why she is treating another human with such a high degree of anger and hostility. Whenever I've read this author over the years, she appears to be taking a stance designed to cause emotional injury. Next time I'd like to read something that comes from a place of positive, loving energy. We need more of that.

Good column
I haven't always enjoyed Paglia on Salon, but this one is right on--in particular, the descriptions of specific differences between Obama and Clinton.

excepting Hillary of course.
I often feel guilty pleasure when I realize how easy it is to swim in the shallow end of the pool.

@myerslaw
"Mr. Bernanke's reference to the conduct of chess matches was superb -- and when you cannot survive as King, you probably shouldn't get to be Queen, either."
-- myerslaw
That's the nicest thing anyone has said about me ever on Salon. Thanks.

Camille won't go easy...
Especially now that she's hit on a topic that resonates so beautifully with the Salon crowd - Hillary bashing! Too bad a month from now, that will all be dried up, and we'll be back to nothing but Camille's lonely boasting and name-dropping to fill out an article. She's someone who doesn't give up, despite not having any endorsements.

Clinton Electability Loud and Clear
Clinton once again won huge in another crucial swing state, West Virginia. No president won the presidency without carrying WV in the primary since 1916. Clinton's winning complex and swing states proved she has the absolutely imperative coalition for Democratic Party to win in November. All exit polls showed tangible data. Clinton's coalition includes majority of the whites both men and women, almost all Asians, all Hispanics, all Jews, whole LGBT community, the majority of Catholics, high percentage of Protestants, majority of the blue-collar, middle and working class, most moderates and conservatives, whole small-town America, regular church goers, gun owners and good percentage of energetic young folks including college students. I am inspired by Hillary's intelligence, competence, strength, experiences and her excellent track record. It's abundantly convincing she is the most electable and the strongest against McCain in November and she will be a wonderful president, a president for all common people with traditional values and American dream. Without this coalition, Democrats can not win. It is a matter of reality.
Yes, Hillary is a figther not quitter and that is what American people exactly need at this tough time.

an answer for kidslitinfo
Hillary Clinton's pastor is Douglas Coe. He is the leader of a secretive and scary group that calls itself "the fellowship." This organization advocates the admixture of religion into politics. Google Coe, and read in scary amazement.

What?
How could anyone claim the media have "let Hillary off easy"?
The media have egregiously supported Barack Obama during this campaign and mercilessly trashed Hillary Clinton. It's a disgusting spectacle beyond anything I have ever seen in politics before.

small epiphany
One thing I suddenly realized from this article. If Obama and his supporters are not reaching the working class, it is because they don't regularly go on the radio! (Do they?)
That's it! How to speak to Americans who do not regularly use the Internet! All the ones who listen to the radio while they work! Go on the radio - all the national and local stations! Pass the word!

On Soaps
I really just skim Camille these days; her Myra Breckinridge certainty about her absolute 100% correctness in all matters is tiring. But the "soap" mention in the subheadline caught my eye...
"TV soaps -- now a dying form, narcotized by corporate blandness." I assume Camille realizes what a silly thing this is to say about a genre that was started by corporations, to, uh, sell soap.
I also assume she knows that McKinsey and others didn't CREATE those lines, they just delivered them - not without talent, perhaps, but it feels naive to compliment an actor on the cleverness of a line.
This brief mention made me wish for a serious study of soaps - I am a long time fan, despite my knowing better. Very, very few people critique soaps these days in an interesting, unbiased way. And all those soap magazines at the checkout counters are just holdovers from the Hollywood studio system - they won't print anything critical for fear of losing access. I think the industry - which Camille rightly suggests has fallen on hard times - is fascinating, and redeemable. Obviously I shouldn't be looking for unbiased anything from Camille, for whom everything from her childhood/young adult days was amazing, and everything now is dreck.

Atta Girl Camille!
Glad to see you are still unaffected by insight or anything resembling feminist consciousness. At least SOME things don't change in this ever-changing world. PS--if you want to understand why Hillary Clinton represents a sea change in politics US-style, and should run the country, reference Dr. ML Schultz, "The Female Brain".
