  • The cult of hopelessness

    Has it hot for Hillary.

  • There Was Some Obama Lackey

In The War Room, saying if Obama doesn't get 70 percent in the general it's Hillary's fault.

  • Barack Obama

Shall reap what he sows by his own hand.

  • The Proverbial Elephant In The Voting Booth

The opinion from Geraldine Ferraro regarding Barack Obama's racial identity and the impact on voting because of it was spot-on; people may not like what she had to say, but, she did address what many people are thinking: there are people who WILL vote for Senator Obama simply because he is black and there are people who will NOT vote for Senator Obama simply because he is black.

And, there it is: the issue that no one (except Geraldine) is willing to address exactly because of the indignant firestorm that inevitably ensues. Forget addressing the validity of the comment, immediately spewing the "racist card" is expected. But, crying "wolf" every time is wearying.

Remember New Hampshire? Barack Obama polled well ahead of Hillary Clinton...until the privacy of the voting booth. All those people who told pollsters that they were "for Obama" obviously weren't. Wonder why they changed their votes?

Bottom line: the white population in the US is roughly 80%. The latino population is roughly 12%. The black population is roughly 11%. The hard, cold reality of the situation is what Ms. Ferraro was addressing; I don't believe for a moment that she is a racist, either.

Barack Obama will have a hard time being elected president for several reasons...not the least of which is his race. Discussing WHY that matters to some people would seem to be more important than simply calling anyone who raises the question a "racist."

  • Hillary, Rush and Barbie?

Ah, Hillary. So desperate. So clueless. The burning sense of entitlement. Those that support her don rose colored glasses. Those that oppose her wear X-Ray specs and carry barf bags. Rush? He is no purist. If the Devil would ran as a Republican, Rush would campaign for him. Barbie? In style today, but what about tomorrow?

Keep up the happy Hillary talk to bring up your sagging spirits. "I think she can I think she can I think she can." I'll meet you in the emerald city okay?

  • Which Of The States

That Obama has won so far would he win in a general.......Let's see.....Illinois and.....and....

  • Pags is back on top of her game

This column was a pleasure to read-- insightful and fun and cultural. I had been disappointed by her earlier entries this past year, so it is good to see she still has her verve.

    a few things:

Limbaugh is not above dirty politics and will do what it takes. In a "keep your enemies closer" way, I would not underestimate him. We all have a tendency to want to give established figures such as Limbaugh a sentimental but misplaced coronation as some sort of exemplar of integrity or honesty. My listening to him these past few years, and the mental gymnastics he engaged in to absolve himself of his positions and troubles have disabused me of any illusion that he is primarily driven by some internal moral compass.

Good call on Cotillard. While I did not see the awards show, I did look at the photos, and sure enough, Marie Cotillard stood out as pretty much the only sexy confidant woman in the bunch. I have long lamented how American women fell so far off the wagon. I see modern women as so self-driven that they fail to bother to garner cues from men, working from their gender theories as to what SHOULD be sexy to men. Of course this does not work, at all. Maybe women need to AGAIN internalize that iterative feedback process from men. Men are sentimantal creatures, men are the drivers of passion and love, men seek out that mysterious grrr, that animal sensation of transcending the present and emerging into spirit. Barbie babes with plastic boobs is the OPPOSITE OF THIS. As it is at the atomic level, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle applies here. Oberving the electron collapses it from the realm of possibility (spirit) to the realm of reality (plastic Barbie). Maybe women can get over their native rage against men and begin to LOVE us again as fellow humans. I am not holding my breath though...

The boldness of that generation of women, who were facing obstacles and prejudices far greater than today's, makes me impatient with the reactionary whining one hears from establishment feminists, including Steinem, about the supposedly still-crippling pervasiveness of sexism. As an equity feminist, I demand equal opportunities for women, but I strongly oppose intrusive special protections for women, which I regard as counterproductive and infantilizing. (My gender philosophy is fully detailed in "No Law in the Arena" in "Vamps & Tramps.")

One of my big bugaboos on Salon that I rail against is this infantile attitude among so called liberated women. Glad you continue to admonish women for this stoopid attitude which is only making feminism fall backwards off the mountain. Karma kicks ASS.

You've gone far towards explaining why I adore CP.

I'm almost OK with being an American man after I've read you.

She is a breath of fresh air in a nation of vicious idiots. Somewhere women learned that feminism meant never giving men any consideration.

Too bad for them.. they will go down with their cruel little ship-- unfortunately they continue to drag the nation down with them, but that is for another time.

I long ago stopped self flagellating because I did not have a vagina down there. I am glad other men are waking up to the nasty of nasties that has become modern feminism.

  • Piling on the Adjectives

OK, I'll try and muscle past the jaw-dropping claim that Rush Limbaugh has some kind of core consistency and ask about your criticism of the women at the Oscars: are you piling on ajectives without stopping to think how contradictory they become? How can you have "bony Pilates arms"? Pilates is a gym workout - does working out at the gym make your arms bony? Or "immobilized faces and simpering smirks"? And "vapid, perky voices."

Sounds like you're getting just a tad grumpy about getting old. Take my advice, head for the gym, do some free weights, catch a Pilates session, do something aerobic. You'll feel much better.
