Speaking of Shrill...
Is ANYONE more shrill than this cunt, Camille Paglia?
-
Paglia She Wrote.
Camille Paglia's Salon columns are kind of like old shows like "Murder She Wrote," where the plot is pretty much exactly the same episode after episode after episode and anyone with an I.Q. higher than that of, say, a grape can predict exactly where everything is going (which is exactly where it went the episode before, and the episode before that, and the episode before that). That kind of stuff has its fans, God bless 'em, and they're welcome to it.
But even "Murder She Wrote" varied its guest stars from episode to epsiode. Paglia's columns are sort of like being trapped in a season of "Murder She Wrote" where the guest stars are always Hillary, Rush, and feminism. I mean, Paglia might want to think about at least throwing a new name or idea into the mix once in a while, or, heck, at the very least, offering a guest spot to Florence Henderson or Charo.

bobbyjoe,
You sound like a big Angela Lansbury fan.

To Camille Paglia:
Your article is so arrogant, so self absorbed, so shrill, so full of mud-slinging that I simply don't trust you. Unfortunately you are simply too old to play the part of someone who is part of the wave of the future. It's quite titallating to read your journalistic excesses about a man with patrician elegance, a man with a steadfast character, so dewy and reserved that the only reason some voters don't respond is because he is so new to the national stage. In fact, it feels that the attraction you feel towards this man is something more personal than you are revealing, as exhibited by your irrational hatred of his opponent. Try to show us that you have at least some of the admirable traits of the man you admire.

Late thanks to some
Came to computer late tonight, not able to read all as yet. Big, HUGE thanks so far to: Steinberg, Milton, GeSchmidtt, dtaylorp (several posts), Blondshag, Shawn Wm, Auntie Non, JimH, IzzieDee, Aycharaych. Good, sensible, fair posts all.
Before off to bed, Camille Paglia really should be removed from Salon. I am teuly puzzled that they keep her on, but I suppose the real reason is right before my eyes. The attention, even with the anger and disapproval, that she draws.
I, too, am about to call it quits with Salon. Thanks again to the people listed above and to all others I may miss. shelby

my favorite
You know, the Paglia column may be my favorite part of Salon. Not so much the column itself, which, for me, is half fascinating, and half "why am I reading a whole page about people I've never heard of and who have no bearing on my life whatsoever?" But the real entertainment value in it for me is reading the dozens of posts that inevitably follow, all variations on the "Camille, you suck so bad that I read every word of everything you write every single month just so I can get angry and tell you that you suck and demand that you be censored" theme. Open-minded compassion at its finest.
Keep it up, Camille. You make me smile.

Get Off of It! Re: Hillary's race against time by Paglia
All of you need to get off of it. Lets get down to what matters. Who are these people running for office? How well do they hold up during stressful times? Can they think or how dependant are they on others for reaching a decision when presented with facts? Questions continue--and should.
You news people are haggling over insignificant items that have no bearing on what we will be faced with in the next 4 to 8 years.
You media people and organizations killed one candidate's efforts by inequitable coverage. Now, you're exaggerating items and alluding significance on others. The integrity of the media is nonexistant. Apparently a psychological exam needs to be rendered before one can spout out in any manner under the guise of being a reporter (or a bloggist!). News and media are to report not make the news. All of you are trying to make news. Get off of it!

bird94,
I'm glad somebody knows the score.

Is Camille listening or Salon doing more editing? Either way -- glad to see the improvement
After first hearing about the Ferraro brohaha and the spitzer entrapment, I started dreading on coming to Salon because I knew that would mean the re-emergence of Camille. Sure enough, 3 days later here she is.
However, I have to admit that her piece this month was a HUGE improvement over previous columns. For one -- it was shorter and more focused. The 1-2 paragraph tangents into self-promotion and self-impressed overly complex prose were gone for the most part.
The content was reasonable -- though I can't agree with everything she wrote, she made thoughtful points and supported her arguments with logic rather than "because I think it is true because I'm an academic intellectual having authored sexual personae and many other books.
She refrained from lots of pointless name dropping.
Overall, she almost sounded as reasonable as some of the other bloggers on Salon. Don't know whether Joan has finally assigned her an editor or Camille actually did some critical feedback. Either way, it was a big improvement. Keep up the better work!

Hillary's race against time
The fawning over Obama has reached epic proportions. The man is a superb speaker who is obviously very bright but I don't think he is the second coming as his press would lead one to believe. He is a junior senator with a limited track record. No one knows what he would be like as President and to say otherwise is pure folly. Without the past eight years of the debacle of Bush Obama's nebulous message of change would not be so powerful. The herd is running so hard away from Bush that I fear we are going to make another mistake. Be serious Washington is not going to change to the degree some people seem to think by electing a smooth talking, basically inexperience individual like Obama to the presidency. Trashing Hillary as was done in this piece is way overdone. Hillary is not some devil as you would seem to imply nor is Obama our next savior. When commentary get this much into personality it is useless and is nothing but partisan propaganda.
