I have to say this...
I am a liberal Democrat in my late 20s, and no great fan of Paglia (actually, I more or less hate everything she writes). But she is on to something here. I have never felt more disenchanted with the Democratic Party in my life. I feel like Obama, despite his flaws, truly speaks to my generation- both in terms of our concerns for the future (read: social security) and our weariness with baby boomer culture wars (read: I could care less what you did in Vietnam- get a life). He may not have a specific plan for everything, but I hope, I think with some justification, that he will have the judgment and intelligence to truly guide this country and our polity in a new direction. Its a gamble, I know, but one that I believe is worth it.
Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, has offered absoutely NO compelling reason for her candidacy, other than tired old Democratic machine politics with a hefty dose of tokenism thrown into the mix, courtesy of the sob sisters of the 1970s like her pal Gloria (she's a WOMAN and its her TURN...). As a genuine feminist, this turns my stomach- I had hoped that the first woman president would not get to that position because of her husband- that type of dynastic crap is more worthy of the dysfunctional, quasi-authoritarian democracies of Asia and South America than of the United Sates. If she is the nominee, for the first time in my adult life I will consider voting for a Republican (at least if its McCain or Guiliani) or just sitting the election out entirely.
So there you have it. Educated 20-somethings like me are engaged with the Democratic Party at a level not seen for decades- but I can almost guarantee that if Clinton is the nominee that will fade away like the morning dew- perhaps never to return. Its a golden opportunity...try not to throw it away.

Hillbots? That's a lazy use of an insult.
"Bulls-eye, milady.
Perfect perspective. I am sure all the Hillbots will be trashing you now.

You forgot to qualify this comment with "because I agree with you, not because there's any substance or truth to the article."

Agree, but
I agree with most of the points in the article, but you are overstating your case when you say "[the Clintons']actual political accomplishments are fairly slight". A governorship, senate position and the presidency? Who, or what couple, has accomplished more?

More of the same from Paglia
While Ms. Paglia bashes Hillary for being meansprited etc. , how about the contemptous attitudes of so many folks in the media itself ? Sadly, this increasingly adolescent-minded culture thrives on petty cruelty, the idiocy of extreme competitiveness and the godawful character assassination associated with the likes of the Swift Boaters, Matt Drudge, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Ms. Paglia herself and far too many others to list. Although I am not an admirer of Clinton, I would suggest that Paglia take a long hard look at her own ridiculous opinions which to my way of thinking have done little to enlighten her readers or raise the level of political discourse in this country which has sunk to an all time low.

I thought we were democrats
My brother is gay, and part of the reason I support democrats is because they don't seek to legislate marriage and don't seek to define family...
Or so I thought. All I hear is vitriol and bile about Hillary's marriage and how her decision to stick with her husband is unacceptable and can only be explained by calculated political maneuvering.
Funny how I don't hear the Queen of England or Jackie Kennedy being accused of the same.
Do any of you people understand what unconditional love is? It means loving someone despite their faults. Maybe Hillary has simply accepted that Bill cheats on her. And maybe she loves him regardless. And even if you don't get that. Even if you think it's sick and wrong, you know what? It's HER decision.
You have no right to tell someone that their relationship is unacceptable. You have no right to tell someone what to do in their marriage. You have no right to tell someone that their love is unacceptable and that they should behave a certain way.
She's a candidate for President, not your child!
And all of you who seek to judge need to take your stones and go over to the glass house that is the Republican party where you belong.

Bravo!
Bravo, bravo! That is all.

eclecticbrotha, the least you could do is change the wording of your posts a little more
Spot on about the Clinton's. I'm glad somebody finally said it.
Now prepare to be crucified by everyone's favorite self-righteous victims, the Hillbots.

Women in love with Obama.....
Dear Editor,
I once respected Camille (I met her years ago and felt she was an authentic feminist), I respected Oprah as well, I never met her, but I cheered her on as her star rose!
But unfortunately success of celebrity can convince one of their own hype and allow them to influence when they are not actually authorities in political science.
I have watched Camille and Oprah gush and gush and gush over Obama.....standing not with other feminist to support the very qualified woman candidate, Hillary Clinton.
Instead they are blinded by their own celebrity, influence and a good looking charismatic man.
Maybe Camille and Oprah's judgement is being clouded because they hang out with the very charming Mr. Obama and they feel extremely important and are going to help make history...how the power intoxicates.
How can any woman trust their endorsements when Camille bashes women on a regular basis these days...she sinks to the tabloid style name calling lows with Maureen Dowd and Ann Couture, only harming the feminist and humanist movements.
And the latest Ophra scandal broke my heart, African school administration she financed , abused young women. Yes, Ophra apoligized but after the abuse had occurred to young girls, how could she not have done a back (fine tooth comb) ground check on her own school employees that would be in charge of beautiful young girls?
Dare I say these women need a reality check....it seems they suffer from a serious lack of judgement!
What I am trying to say, please don't be fooled by the brand of Ophra and Paglia...they don't have a clue.....They just lend their names to the game!
Sincerely,
Ms. Nor
