Hillary without tears

Why it's time to close the book on the Clintons -- and herald the Obamas! Plus: Iran war hawks, Russian drag queens and the genius of Zeppelin.

The letters thread is now closed.

LOOK!

More mindless, self-indulgent spew from our very own Camille Paglia. Yeah, that's right, she's so ol'-hat around here that I've started to call her 'our own.'

God forgive us for keeping her.

No one cares about this drivel, Salon. Maybe eventually you will stop and count the number of letter-writers who despise Paglia's arrogant writing and groundless opining, and drop her from your staff.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 07:00 PM

*puke*

If Camille is so concerned about contemptuous condescension, maybe she should stop spewing it in her writing.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 07:06 PM

genius!

"The Obamas represent the future, not the past."

This is genius talking, GENIUS! And she gets paid for this...?

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 07:10 PM

Wait a second ...

Hillary read a book during a college football game? To think I was considering giving that bitch my vote. Thanks, Paglia!

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 07:27 PM

Pigs are Flying, and Hell is Freezing Over

I actually agree with Camille Paglia's take on Hillary Clinton, and her thoughts about the pros of an Obama presidency.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 07:29 PM

Can we close the book...

on Paglia instead? Please? Maybe you can trade her to Time and get back that dork who writes high school campaign bullshit? Maybe you can trade Shapiro and Paglia for Robert Scheer? I can see a three-way with Dowd, Krystol, and Paglia over at The Times. That may be so good for The Times that they will offer Krugman (he doesn't fit in over there anyway, no team chemistry). OTOH, the Dowd, Krystol, Paglia triple-play would have chemistry like H2SO4!

Camille or Tweety?

Greetings

Tough call!

Tweety is a sexist pig who hates the letter C (just because) and is enraptured of Obama "man smell"

Camille seems to be just a hater but similarly Obama enrapt. Somehow its worse when its a female hater - sorta got that quisling thing going on...

Enjoy the journey

Subject: Iraq pullout would result in massive killing. Don't fool yourself.

Rob, from Dallas, stated that Abraham Lincoln never served. That is inaccurate. He served briefly and somewhat humorously during the Black Hawk War. Nothing against Rob, and many thanks and kudos for his service but facts are facts. And stubborn things at that!

Space Alien Alchemy...

Fred from Detroit,

I don't think the space aliens can really turn carbon dioxide into gold to make you rich while solving the global warming problem.

This isn't off-topic is it?

I'm saying please this time!

Ah, that time of the month again when we are treated to the preening bloviations of Camille Paglia. This time we get a real treat; Paglia delivers a trenchant analysis of Hillary Clinton’s warped psyche. Seriously Camille, what blunt 19th century tools did you use to extract that claptrap?

I know that I’ve repeatedly pleaded with Salon’s editors to replace Paglia with a writer that Solon’s readership doesn’t find so pretentious and full of crap. But I now think I know why my pleading has fallen of deaf ears. I forgot to say please.

Let me now correct that slight.

Please, Joan, Gary, anyone with Camille’s number in their rolodex and the cahones to make the call. Give that jaded harpy the axe! If not for me, do it for the hundreds of other premium subscribers who have told you the same thing month after month.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 07:57 PM

Correction

I apologize for saying 'hundreds' above. I meant thousands.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 07:58 PM

I think Camille meant to say Obama is "Hillary without

a vagina."

What a disgusting article.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 08:05 PM

Bulls-eye, milady.

Perfect perspective. I am sure all the Hillbots will be trashing you now.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 08:09 PM

Preach on, Lady C

Someone has to say it. Tough crowd in here, huh?

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 08:16 PM

Camille, not even relevant enough to diss.

What is Salon coming to? Hardly any letters to the latest Camille Paglia dogwash?

It used to be such fun to read the eloquent insults to Her Snottyness, but those days may be over.

Sigh.....

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 08:19 PM

Every time I encounter anything by Paglia, I think of Molly Ivins

who said:

"You think perhaps this is a cheap shot, that I have searched her work and caught Ms. Paglia in a rare moment of sweeping generalization, easy to make fun of? "Au contraire", as we always say in Amarillo; the sweeping generalization is her signature. In fact, her work consists of damn little else. She is the queen of the categorical statement."

The F Word

I cannot believe Salon is okay with this careless use of the word 'feminazi.' Let Camille Paglia blather all she wants, editors, but can't you at least ask her for better word choice there? Do you really have to propagate a Limbaugh-ism that conflates women's liberation with nazism? That word crosses a really important line for me and for all feminists. Not to mention, you know, victims of the holocaust.

For shame.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 08:22 PM

Joan Walsh

You criticize NYT for hiring Willaim Kristal as columnist. I would rather you hire him than a pseudo-feminist like CP. At least we know where he come from. CP is totally unreadable.

Three cheers for Camille

I have been following this campaign very carefully, and I think Camille Paglia has told it like it is perfectly. I always wondered about those "feckless," thughlike brothers, and the explanation is perfect. But one might add that Hillary is not nearly as smart as people have suggested! Her comments about Benazir Bhutto on CNN, for example, show a total ignorance of the Pakinstani dynamic. She cannot hold a candle to Obama where brains are concerned, not to mention ethics! Gloria Steinem should be ashamed to defend this power-hungry control freak.

Re: feminazi

I was once a member of a national men's activists group. I left in protest because a number of their members insisted on using the word feminazi in online correspondence on a moderated list. I did not wish to be associated with an organization whose president did nothing to discourage that language and who would not distance himself from it.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 08:34 PM

well, this was a breath of fresh air...

...in that this was the FIRST column by Ms P that does NOT contain the following phrase:

"...in my book, Sexual Personae..."

which previously appeared at least once in each column.

Which is not to say that Ms P is becoming any less egocentric, but perhaps she merely forgot to plug her book this time around.

I'll be watching for an updated column which corrects this error.

Ding Dong the witch is back

Gloria Steinem is a "feminazi", according to Camille Paglia--that is to say, someone who refuses to have anything to do with Camille Paglia. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, is a man hater. Why? Because (wait for it, it's a doozie) she sticks by her husband!(a notorious philanderer)and employs female staff mostly, or male nerds (as you can see, Einstein has nothing to worry about). Camille, take a hike and take your broomstick with you.
