Camille Paglia is worth reading
Let's face it, Camille Paglia gets to the heart of the matter very quickly minus all the hatemongering that Salon readers usually crave for. Her comment about the lack of basic American understanding of history and geography is spot-on with respect to the Middle East and has allowed Bush to get away with a lot of misinformation. Her argument that we should exit Iraq ASAP carries more weight in my mind as compared to other Salon writers because she also explains why it is in the best interests of this country and world for the US to do so. It's not about "Bush lied" or the "Democrats are lame" but, instead, carefully weighing the costs versus the benefits of the next course of action which is to get out now. Similarly, many Democratic senators like Diane Feinstein want to get their information from sources other than MoveOn.org and Glenn Greenwald so they give the appearance, at least temporarily, of siding with the neocons.
Paglia's views on global warming are interesting considering that the p.c. police have, by now, shut down meaningful debate on the matter and how do we know that all relevant information is in? Paglia was putting up a "strawman" suggesting that not all the information is in yet and also to see how berserk the p.c. police would react. The reactions on this website ranged from shock to heresy. Maybe, what she was really saying was: will meaningful debate on global warming resume if HRC or Obama becomes president?

You blab on and on about the millions that died in Cambodia--and just dismiss their deaths as if it was matter of fact and unavoidable.--It was being avoided up until SOUTH VIETNAM COLLAPSED.
The fact is the US pulled out of Vietnam after signing a TREATY with the NORTH. Yes we did bomb and send troops into Cambodia--mainly because the VIETCONG attacked the South from Cambodia. The North was not to invade South Vietnam and the US would pull it's troops out. You see, the NORTH convinced the world through propaganda (and a lot of help from from Hollywood types) that the violence in the South was largely due to the US presence and if the US was to leave then all of Southeast Asia would be better off. (Sound familiar to you younger skulls full of MUSH!)
Well that lasted about 18 months after we pulled the troops out, The North Ran into South Vietnam, The South looked to the US for HELP, the Democrats, who ran congress, said NO the South then collapsed after realizing we betrayed them.
---You left out the millions the died in South Vietnam and the tens of thousands that fled in RICKETY BOATS out into the PACIFIC OCEAN in an attempted to save their families, in your rant to casually dismiss the millions who died in Cambodia--You forgot the South Vietnamese,most of them Government officials, the military leaders, teachers, Doctors and other Professionals along with their families. Anybody that could offer a different vision of Government than Communism. Millions more got stuck in "RE-EDUCATION CAMPS" because they had read something besides the latest Communist Manifesto in the last decade.
This is what we can look forward to in IRAQ. Why you choose to believe differently when it has already occurred on a local level in villages that have been under the Radical Islamist types control in IRAQ, Afghanistan, South Lebanon, and GAZA, and Northern Pakistan and large regions of land in Africa over the last several years can only be viewed as "THE SUSPENSION OF FACTS" in your "FANTASY WORLD." Only it will be the Koran instead of Marx that will be used to enslave the masses or justify their deaths. You also left out the afterwards part. Not the bloodbath to stabilize IRAQ, not the propaganda victory of Radical Islam and it's new recruiting tool, nor the Radical Islamic "re-education camps complete with a look-a-like MICKEY MOUSE for the Children," but what IRAQ will be after the BLOODBATH. Iraq will be another Radical Muslim, ANTI WESTERN COUNTRY with a hostile Government and Billions of dollars to spend on attacking the WESTERN DEMOCRACIES by funneling money to terrorist organizations, training terrorist, and protecting terrorist. A government that denies the Holocaust, stones pregnant teenage girls to death and Hangs all your gay friends in the town square.
They will in effect HATE YOU ENOUGH to send their Children on Suicide mission to kill your children.
I don't mean they will HATE BUSH! I mean they will hate YOU and your family because your butt is lower than your head as you pray towards MECCA. And if you choose not to pray towards MECCA--well there is always a rope or a pile of stones or a sharp sword waiting for you in the town square amongst a throng of cheering brainwashed children waiting for you to become "a living impaired infidel." A place were the first amendment is heresy in the eyes of God.
This is of course predicated on the grounds that no MODERATES will rise up and form a DEMOCRATIC IRAQ. Which is what we have NOW. It's unstable, it's corrupt and inept, it teeters on the brink of collapse and cuts deals with it's less than honorable neighbors and local strongmen. But it is a far cry better than what it would be should the US PULL OUT and grant IRAN a victory.
If anybody sees --a democratic Iraq surviving Radical Sunni and shia neighbors without our HELP--Well perhaps you too can write for SALON--or MAD MAGAZINE!

Marine Corps & LGB subcultures...
The letter-writer is spot-on about the LGB subculture in the Marine Corps. One only has to read the grafitti on the portajohn walls here in Iraq to see a lot of solicitation ("Gay? Bi? Curious? e-mail me at..") scribbled on the walls. Not to mention the gay slave trade a couple years ago (seriously).
That shit makes me laugh when I find out about this stuff because it's always the most stuffy, blowhard career Marines who turn out gay. Yep, always them that turn out gay and turn out to be the ones swapping junior Marines in the sex slave trade. (Again completely serious)
