Here are the painful facts about the 2000 election
Among the many ridiculous statements and allegations leveled at George W. Bush (and I don't include incompetence on that list) the one that really wrinkles my gourd is that Bush stole the 2000 election, as Bloombury and few others have repeated among these posts.
True enough, Bush received fewer popular votes than Gore, but the U.S Constitution awards the presidency to the candidate with the most electoral votes which are cast by the states. So on that point, get over it, or work to change the Constitution if it bothers you.
But we are really talking about Florida aren't we?
Here are the facts:
The infamous "butterfly ballot" which allegedly led retired Jewish voters in Miami to cast thousands of votes for Pat Buchanan, was designed by the Democratic supervisor of elections there.
At same time thousands of illegal votes WERE cast for Al Gore by convicted felons who in Florida are stripped of their civil rights.
Under Florida law --- passed by a Democratic controlled legislature long before the first Bush was in the Oval office --- there never should have been a hand recount in the first place. Though definitely partisan, then Sec. of State Katherine Harris was following state law when she declared Bush the winner a few days after the election.
Before the issue went to the State Supreme Court, the Florida Appeals Court Judge in Tallhassee, a Democrat, agreed with Harris that the the recount should be stopped, because such action was not in accordance with state law.
It was only when the issue went before the State Supreme Court, that the circus of people staring at hanging chads and counting "dimples" began. Dominated by liberal appointees of former Democratic Governor Lawton Chiles, this court was attemted to supercede the legislature in defining election procedures. Supremacy of state legislatures in determining election procedures is in the U.S. Constitution.
The U.S. Supreme reversed the Florida State Court, based on the equal protection provision of the Bill of Rights. Clearly, humans can't match machines for counting votes objectively. The Florida Supreme COurt had tried to supercede state law and replace a fair method of counting votes with an imperfect methood fraught with potential human error and perhaps outright manipulation.
And finally, many months after Bush took office, the NY Times actually DID conduct that hand count and found that, yes, Bush had received the most votes in Florida, afterall.

also wrong
I didn't say he stole the 2000 election, I said he stole both the 2000 and 2004 elections and there's plenty of evidence that he did just that. Are you aware that in the 2000 election in one county Al Gore received minus 16,000 votes according to the voting machine. A statistical impossibility and an obvious case of vote tampering. This is yet another great unexplored scandal of this administration. If you add in all the black citizens who were turned away at polling booths (because everyone knows you can't trust them not to vote Democrat) or made to stand for hours until they gave up and went away and all the people who found their names had been removed from the electoral roll because they were supposedly felons -they weren't but they still didn't get to vote- it might all start to add up for you. This isn't just about voting systems or hanging chads, this is about wholesale and deliberate voting fraud. Haven't you ever wondered why this administration despises the voters the way they do? They know they aren't an elected government and for them it's not about that. It's about them having a God given right to rule and if the voters are too stupid to vote the right way they'll take the election by fraud. And that's what they did.The man who owned the company that made the voting machines was a major contributor to the Republican party and I believe he later ran as governor of a state. The question is, how does this happen in a supposed democracy? Instead of hitting the denial button why don't you inform yourself about what's really going on? Your democracy is being destroyed before your eyes. If all of this happened in some backwater in Africa a lot of Americans would curl their lips and say 'Well you can't expect them to understand how democracy works. They're uneducated.' What you really need to get rid of, is the electoral colleges. This is a 19th century system based on the idea that 'The People' can't be trusted and every barrier possible must be put between them and the outcome they really want to vote for. Something your mainstream media has certainly taken to heart. 'The People' are so stupid they can't be told the truth about anything. And they aren't told the truth. The irony is that the American people are a hell of a lot smarter than the talking heads that clutter up 'News and Current Affairs' shows. Or perhaps that's the real problem. Fooling Americans and tricking them into voting against their own interests or into becoming so disillusioned that they don't bother to vote at all is a big job and if that fails, well, there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Not in the mental home yet...Camille?
Does Camille Paglia take her laptop to the toilet with her? Because it would explain the amount of shit this dufus lets loose. The world according to Camille's bowels...And there's enough of it to fertilize the lawns of the world for a millennium. I don't agree that Paglia is a "contrarian". That's Sontag. She's what in Australia is referred to as a shit-stirrer. She's always trying to pick a fight with someone over nothing, the way mentally-ill people do. With Camille that person is Al Gore, because to a party of Attila Huns like the Republicans and their right-wing fan club (the very people her comments are meant to win over) --and, if some of these letters are any indication, are probably emailing from a mental institution (which would explain Camille's popularity), --he's right up there with Marx and Che and Fidel. Attacking him is Camille's way of appeasing them and signaling she's not a "loony" left-wing Democrat. Perish the thought! (not that Camille has ever had one of those in her life). Al Gore is not endorsed by corporate America or media conglomerates and the Right (who have hijacked the 'mainstream')so it's no surprise that Camille mocks him as he must be for if his message were to get across (and it is, despite their attempts to sabotage him) plutocrats might have to implement his suggestions...when really they would like to go on plundering the earth, polluting it to no end, decimating it, increasing CO2, wreaking havoc with the climate to feed their greed. And Camille will continue to spruik for them the way the monkey dances to the organ grinder because left-wing mags don't pay as much as conservative ones do. Hey, Camille...
