Don't run, Al. Don't!

The self-defeating Draft Al campaign is just the tip of the Democrats' woes. Plus: Paris and Lindsay's mommy problems, and the heyday of Hollywood pizazz.

The letters thread is now closed.

The Best Thing Hillary Clinton Can Do For The Democratic Party And The Nation

Is to esign from her quest for the presidency so we can get a candidate that 1) appeals to independents and disgusted-with-neocons Republicans and 2) is willing to totally repudiate the policies and actions of the Bush Administration and find a new direction for America. The best candidate for item 2 is Dennis Kucinich, but he probably wouldn't appeal to the voters in category 1.

Camille who?

Does anybody take her seriously anymore?

Tuesday, June 12, 2007 07:03 PM

Hey Camille!

Don't publish anymore, Camille. Don't!

Really, Walsh, why do you waste pixels on this tired old schtick.

Tuesday, June 12, 2007 07:05 PM

Camille, come out already!

Why is Camille Paglia still pretending to be a Democrat?

Tuesday, June 12, 2007 07:17 PM

Are you high?

Camille must be on something MUCH stronger than helium.

Guys who rubber-stamp the war in Iraq are NOT what this country is looking for right now. I'm actually wondering if Camille is just entranced with 'macho-ness' of the Republicans. What do they have to contribute besides feeding the fear of terrorism, threatening the use of bombs...what about healthcare? poverty? Not sexy enough I guess.

Hillary isn't my favorite candidate, but Camille really slams her with such vehemence. I don't get it. I wonder if she feels threatened by her somehow.

Kucinich appeal

Why would Kucinich not appeal to category 1? True, he's not a swing-voter's candidate, but he is more anti-neocon than any of the other Dems (except maybe for Gravel).

As for the Camille Paglia article, I must confess I didn't even bother with it. If I click on the link, the Salon staff with think there are a lot of hits and keep calling her back for work.

Don't listen to them, Camille.

Although I disagree with a whole lot of what you say (do you really find Romney and Giuliani appealing candidates for president? They both look and sound like hollow men to me), I look forward to reading your column. On both the left and the right - especially online - the thought police are running rampant, and it's bracing to read the words of someone who is willing to just let it rip.

Your comparison of Dianne Feinstein and Hillary Clinton illuminated for me exactly why it is that I find Clinton so off-putting. As for Gore...well, I hope he's listening. It's only distance and regret that have made him appealing. Up close, I'm afraid he carries with him the same problems he always did.

Keep on writing, please!! You are helping to keep me, at least, sane.

Oh, God!

What a way to end the day, slogging through five pages of intellectual masturbation courtesy of "Salon" and Camille Paglia. Air sickness bag, any one?

Tuesday, June 12, 2007 07:47 PM

i try to avoid paglia's crap...

but i was semi intrigued and almost made it through four whole paragraphs. this person's writings are always totally unreadable. what a sad waste of space.

Ugh

What was surfacing in Hillary was the old family psychodrama of the bright, brittle, high-achieving daughter contemptuously outflanking her befuddled, resentful, mediocre brothers at the dinner table.

And how the hell would she know this about Hillary Clinton? Did she make telapathic contact with Senator Clinton? Did Clinton come to her for therapy? Paglia is projecting or something, and it's pretty arrogant to think you can read another person so easily. The contempt also seems to have a personal flavor to it. Paglia may not like Senator Clinton, but the woman has made some impressive history. Any objective observer would say that Clinton's contribution to society far outweighs Paglia's contribution which consists primarily of lame complaints. Live with that Camille.

Of course Paglia really has no place in Salon. She hates the Democrats, our candidates, our ideals, and our goals. Why Salon continues to run her abusive tripe is beyond me. Oh wait, I remember, it's because the left has this self-loathing thing going on where we actually entertain the opinions of those who tell us we suck right to our faces. Then we thank them for it, and even give them a paycheck.

Don't Listen to her Al, Don't!

Normally I at least read the post before I berate Camille. The headline is enough for me. Yeah Al, don't run. I don't want to vote for another Democrat anyway. Now I'll go back and read this piece of tripe.

This is pathetic stuff

Please pardon the ad feminam attack but it's late in the day and I've already depleted my little self by ranting about yesterday's coverage of Diana Spenser.

But has anyone got any Maalox or Tums? Cause I need some relief from this Camille Paglia gasbag. "..a poll on the Drudge Report..."; Al Gore: "Women (wife, daughters, wifty hired hands) have to buck him up and prod him in this direction or that."; Paris Hilton has "...given pleasure and diversion to cultural voyeurs around the globe and should be respected for it."

Oh, Puh-lease. Joan Walsh needs to go.

Tuesday, June 12, 2007 08:01 PM

Stay Away from Politics, Camille!

Not bad on Lindsey Lohan et al., but for all our sakes, Camille, please avoid political commentary. You really add nothing new or useful to what one might get on right-wing talk radio. Drudge is now a reliable polling source? Your drivel is yet another argument for Gore to run!! GO AL!!

Tuesday, June 12, 2007 08:02 PM

Spare us is right

Queen Pretentious checks in, and what a shock, She finds the Republicans a lot more FUN. I guess Joan Walsh still finds this joke funny; just like the gang at The Nation couldn't get enough of being bitch slapped by Christopher Hitchens.

Reading between the lines: Hillary Clinton is showing a lot of poise and starting to scare her worst enemies. Bill in the White House scary? Maybe. Go take a look in the mirror Camillie, that's an intellectual who takes her prompting from Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannidy. THAT would be scary.... Walsh, don't you find these creeps who killed themselves lying to public, making Al Gore into a laughingstock, complaining that Al Gore is a laughingstock... a little creepy? Hey, you've got to live with yourself.

Anyway, on the pop culture front, it was DELICIOUS to see Camillie ignore the huge wave of interest in the last episode of the excellent "Sopranos"; one of the few things in pop culture worth paying attention to in the last 10 years. With her prissy and thin skinned condemnation of the show, Paglia showed herself to be the epitome of all She has pretended to decry in PC culture.
