  • Anonymous: Don't blame Paglia on liberals or the left

    Dear "Anonymous":

I write not to defend Paglia, because I can't stand her either, but to insist that you not blame liberals or the left for her imbecilities. To the extent that she has anything approaching a coherent political perspective (her only real agenda is calling attention to herself), she's a right-wing, Limbaugh-loving, Clinton-hating, feminist-bashing, gay-trashing dittohead. She claims in every one of her fully-interchangeable screeds to be a Democrat, because she thinks that that will fool her stupider readers and thus insulate her from criticism for her childish hatred of liberals, gays and women.

By all means condemn Paglia -- I'm with you 100% there -- but don't condemn her for being the one thing is definitely is not: a liberal.

  • shoo

it has been more than a month since your last post. I rather enjoyed the interlude.

I wish you'd post your drivel someplace else. Like on LiveJournal.

  • Camille Paglia's column

As usual Ms Paglia's subject matter is vast and her opinions well articulated, bu I have to disagree with her comparison of Vietnam and Iraq. The Bush administration assessmnet of the Iraq regime mirrored that of the previous Clinton admninistratin, both concluding that Sadam could not be allowed to arm himself with WMD, because he could pose a threat to both his neighbors, and America. And, so the original goal of removing him was a noble cause, and a success, what was not anticipated was that Shiites would start killing Sunnis, and vice versa. Nor did anyone forese that the Jidhadits would actually use this as an opportunity to defeat the great Satan. In five years of war they have managed to inflict limited casualties, and would it not for the complicity of the American left and the MSM that empower them daily, this conflict would have ended long ago.

  • Romney

What I know about Romney, being a Mormon myself, is that he is more than competent. The emphasis in the the LDS church is to develop our talents. Romney has developed his business, and managment acumen to a fine art. He takes pride in doing a professional job - and I think we need more consumate professionals in government.

You may have also noticed that the LDS church has no symbol except it's name: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are taught that the quality of the lives of its members, is to be the symbol to the world of what we believe. By our fruits, ye will know us. Integrity is the hallmark of our belief system. We are far from perfect, but we make covenants to act with honesty and integrity in all that we do.

As a convert, I've been a member of the church for 32 years. The church has provided me with leadership training, spiritual education, and an opportunity to be of service in the Young women's organization teaching competence, confidence and service in that organization, and others. My children have flourished in this atmosphere.

I did have a mentor in the church, a woman who had 8 children, and who out of frustration in dealing with the public schools, started her own school that has had 400 students since 1990. She was given an awared as Educator of the Year by the Santa Clara County (Silicon Valley) Educators Asociation. She is now the grandmother of 32 grandchildren. All of her children have served missions for the church. Her children include builders, filmmakers, and computer programmers. She is a great patron of the arts, often hosting art shows in her home.

Her spirit reminds me of my husbnad's great-great grandmother, Patty Session, the Mormon mid-wife to Brigham Young and many others. She crossed the plains via covered wagon and on foot at the age of 50. She had more than 75 grandchildren, and spent her later years running a school she founded in Bountiful Utah for all of her grandchildren. She died at age 99 in good health.

When I think of Mormon women, and their familes, and their offspring like Mitt Romney, I see these golden Dynasties of Love and Creativity.

  • It is so

shockingly denied that Mormons are Christians

Mormons are not Christians. Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism, said that Christianity had died and he had come to replace it.

Roman Catholics and Protestants agree on core doctrines of Christianity (e.g., the divinity of Christ), while Mormons deny them (e.g., Jesus was a mere man who became a god, and God was once a man, and we can all become gods ruling our own planets). Such doctrines put them outside the pale of Christian orthodoxy.

Don't be fooled by the name "Jesus Christ" in their formal name (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). Their Jesus is completely different from the one of history or the one found in the New Testament.

  • Predictable Paglia

Isn't it funny how in any social mud wrestling match,(i.e Rosie and Trump) Paglia always manages to find a way to come out on the side of the wealthier and more powerful contestant?

  • A cause they've long ago forgotten

CP is a symbol of God-given talent wasted.

  • I've decided to comment without reading the article

My comment - I'm not reading Ms. Paglia's articles anymore.

    Thank you.

  • Somebody please explain this sentence to me

" ... [Giuliani] seemed like a puritanical poker coming up through the runny butter-cream frosting like a 5 o' clock shadow."

    ?

  • Skip the Article

I've come to enjoy the letters associated with CP's column without the need to read her column. The letters are more informative and inciteful and clarify her points far better than she does. They reinforce my desicion not to waste time on the column.

  • Camille, PLEASE Get With the Program! I'm Counting on YOU!

Ms. Paglia: I am a big fan of yours, and I was waiting patiently for you to get back to writing so that I could read what you had to say about Islam. You always tell the truth, and you always seem to be able to get right to the heart of the matter, but you're missing the boat when it comes to Islam. In today's article, you say that it's Bush's policies in Iraq that are causing Islamic terrorism - I can fully understand how someone could reach that conclusion, so I'm not faulting you. However, please keep researching and reading everything you can find on Islam - a good place to start is Ibn Warraq's "Why I Am Not A Muslim" or "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. You will find, as I did, that the root cause of Islamic "extremism" is NOT the policies of the U.S., or Israel, or any other country - it's the teachings and life example of Muhammad. Current U.S. and Israeli policies and actions only provide today's rationale for Islamic aggression around the world - take away these policies and actions, and the Islamic world would simply find another rationale to continue to wage war. I am not telling you what to think, I am only inviting you to continue researching Islam and to consider the possibility that it is, at its core, a fascist all-encompassing idealogy (not a religion as we understand it) that subjugates women, negates free thought, and preaches never-ending warfare against the non-islamic world. You are one of the few people in the public sphere who I think could quickly come to (what I consider to be the correct) conclusions about Islam and have the guts to actually say what needs to be said.
