Letters to the Editor

Excellent letters
I've gotten a great deal from the letter writers, particularly those who took the time to write informative, nuanced and humorous responses.
However, I find the 'spin' some writers are putting on the letters to be a bit inaccurate.
Spin #1: These letter writers are ridiculous/self-important for writing (and I can laugh at them) for responding.
I've read quite a few of these 'laughers.' How can they be so contemptuous of those who wish to inform? They sound like Fox News pundits deriding anyone who dares intelligence.
Spin #2: These letters show the left is a mob and does not allow diversity of thought.
Have these people read these letters? They are diverse, and the writers generally take care to explain that they celebrate differences in opinions, however, they draw the line at broad assertions without substantiation on important issues.
Spin # 3: These letters are mean, attacking, and/or nasty.
As one writer noted, given Paglia's confrontational style, letter writers have a perfect right to respond in kind. I am amazed at the measured, clear, thoughtful and yes, polite, responses here. Even the sarcasm is limited.
Spin #4: Salon only puts Paglia on to 'stir the pot' and make money.
I don't know about this one. I will note that Joan Walsh's article on misogyny on the Internet garnered many more letters, as did a previous feature article by another author critiquing "The Secret."
My hope is that Salon will read these fine letters, and offer a response.
Words do have an impact. Salon, a well-respected organization, gave front page space to someone denying global warming, and thus has given power to Drudge, conservatives and the corporations they represent to duck from responsibility once more.
I'm wondering how this article will spin.
I love Salon, and have faith it will take responsibility for this piece.
In the meanwhile, I'll continue to praise Salon's readers and get angry at those lazy laughers who make Fox Family fun at those who actually care about the truth.

Camille Paglia Has Alzheimer's
That's the only explanation that makes sense for the unfathomable, breathtaking stupidity on display in her latest screed. I mean, really, the woman actually reminds one LW - and by extension, us - that she wrote Sexual Personae and that, get this, it's 700 hundred pages long.
Talk about physician heal thyself. That boast is right up there with "I am this many."
No, something is definitely wrong with Paglia's brain. Solid gray matter is giving way to swiss cheese, and I just hope her partner gets her some help.

Theis is BIG

"Climate patterns are cyclical," and "Humans are too insignificant to impact the magnificence of nature." That's weak even to a layperson"
Really? We just watched Katrina almost wipe New Orleans off the map and you think WE have power over THE WEATHER? That's just the worst kind of hubris. My "opinion" (admittedly) is we are nothing to this rock.
"The mass media keeps treating the matter like it's a 50-50 divide between those who are convinced and those who are skeptical..."
While the politicians on the Left have already figured out how to make a buck off it (carbon credits) and (this is insane) wants us to stop driving, stop flying, etc.

"Stop responding to Sham Scam please, for the love of God He has a new age bug up his ass."
And links. A new age bug up his ass and lots and lots of links - to authoritative sites. Don't forget that.
"No matter what the subject at hand is, he'll turn into something about new age mysticism and its followers."
It's a big topic. I can't think of too many areas in life they haven't infiltrated - even churches, which supposedly hate the occult.
Xrandadu Hutman (again)
"Besides the fact that you have labeled global-warming scientists as cultists, why do you believe that it isn't true?"
I didn't mean for you to think "all global warming scientists". (Sorry) I think this because, as I said earlier, of what's happening in almost all fields of medicine and science: cult infiltration. You completely ignored my previous posts regarding homeopathy and TT in medicine. Why?
And why do you think the super-spiritual Templeton Organization places their spiritually-minded NIHR (National Institute for Health Research) right next to the federally funded NIH? To fool you into believing what they say on the subject of spirituality and medicine, maybe? Is that an accident - or clear deception?
I've answered the Scientology question. I don't believe in it - but THEY THINK IT'S SCIENCE - and they'll do ANYTHING to add it into the scientific canon.
*I want to add: I'm no conspiracy theorist, Folks. I'm adding as many links as you want for a reason; this is real. Moving on:
"As for the various new age practices you mention, what connection do you see between those and global warming science?"
It's no accident that the answers given to combatting GW (sending us back to Third World status) line up PERFECTLY with the historical desires of new agers to move us back to the land, etc. Check out the Mystic Bourgeoisie site for more on new age history: http://mysticbourgeoisie.blogspot.com/
"You're talking about alternative medicine, which is a world apart from climatology."
First off, there is no "alternative medicine" - only medicine that's proven to work and bullshit that doesn't work. See how easily we believe - and are part of - their bullshit?
"Personally, I agree with you, those things deserve skepticism, though most of them are probably harmless (as long as people don't forgo credible medical treatment)."
Nonsense. What about the people on the periphery of the believer? The mother with cancer whose daughter gives her homeopathic treatments? What happened to Coretta Scott King? The husband who can't convince his wife she can't "heal" AIDS with her hands? Harmless?
Not to be dismissive (honestly) but you don't even know the half of this problem. After all we've discussed, we're just scratching the surface of this HUGE problem.
I mean, if people can be fooled into believing - passionately believing - that water (H20) is medicine, how can they assess other issues - like the truth about the war?
