*giggling* Oops, should have have waited until after the acceptance speech...
when can we read the column GK wrote in case McCain won...?
like I said, just curious...
this one is quite good!
He's getting the girls a puppy, Garrison. I think we can forgive him, can't we?
I think you may be pleasantly surprised by how quickly things turn around. The economy runs on optimism, and now we have some.
when he put his hand up, it was in terrible shape, but since then we had to redefine 'terrible'. good luck to him, and put a shoulder to the wagon when you see it. gonna need every body, this is an "all hands on deck!" moment.
Can we have a first cat, too?
Nice essay.
I really enjoyed your poem in last month's Atlantic. (It) Sucks y(ou)r man Studs couldn't stick around long enough to see this early morning.
Best,

Barack and Garrison. Two American treasures. Arriving the old fashion way! By earning it. All the Best.
P.S. Barack I am glad you are getting the dog.
I agree with everything except the dog and the pardon.Without being vindictive, you've gotta wonder what time bombs will still be ticking when when the current tenants vacate. The door should be left open, why should there not be some accounting for what's gone on here.I include the former government of my own country Australia in this who we turfed out of office late last year.Thank you for your articles Garrison, they are inspirational.Thank you ,the dear people of America.
I bet that Garrison did'nt bother writing an alternative article.
Why is a blanket pardon for Bush and Cheney the right thing for the country? If America wants to be respected again by the rest of the world, I believe that Bush and Cheney must NOT be pardoned. Otherwise, we send the message that the atrocities that they committed in our name (shredding the US constitution, torture, etc, etc) are entirely forgivable and we'll just sweep them under the rug because it's easier. Tonight Obama said that he hopes to work toward a more perfect union. Working towards perfection should not include letting war criminals go free. It should include doing the hard work of exposing the many criminal acts of the current administration.
Garrison, I love your writing but every once in awhile, I wonder if you got a bump on the head!
Why is a blanket pardon a wonderful idea? (1) There is no chance of convicting anybody but a few peons of anything (despite their obvious guilt) and (2) once they accept the pardon they can't deny their guilt, and few will voluntarily undertake the strain, mental and fiscal, of getting indicted.
Once again, the sage of Lake Wobegone gets it right - think about it - Hobson's Choice, redux
Two things make me incredibly happy that Mr. Obama won the Presidency.
1) The amazingly classy and cool candidate that he was, even while under the sleaziest of attacks. That he won this election so handily is a repudiation of the thug politics of Karl Rove and his successors.
2) The amazingly competent campaign that he ran. The man is a natural executive leader. That is now obvious. This is exactly what we need in the Chief Executive now. What wonderful luck for America!
It is refreshing that the good guys won for a change.
Thanks Garrison, I loved your article. Especially mentioning Michelle who is the first lady to be a true friend and lover, I assume, for her husband.
I think Barack will always always tell us the truth. That alone is worth the happiness all around this country tonight.
I want to add this: I live in a mixed neighborhood, as much black as hispanic, as much white as non-white. And what I've been noticing is that for the blacks among us this is even more emotional and more important than even the most ardent Obama supporters who are not African Americans. This makes me, who is not black, very very moved. I am close to many of these, especially women, but though we all cried tears of joy tonight, this means something HUGE for the blacks in our country and around the world. Thanks again, GK... You are a simply great soul.
Studs could've made it a few more days, to see this. But he must have known it was coming. Maybe he knew his work was done.
That he promised they could bring as puppy into the whitehouse with them. And if you think about it, the electorate can look at Michelle reading her good book and put her down for not showing up at that fundraiser! But a puppy HAS TO BE walked, and pet, and brushed and fed and the wee-wee pads need to be cleane dup. I can think of no other way to make it easier for her to "keep it real" whie inside the unreal fishbowl that is life in the "Whitehouse". (Now The Mullato House? For the first, wonderful time? It's about time to experience some different colors in there.)
He's got to get a dog. He promised those darling girls that if he won, they'd get a dog, and reiterated the promise tonight. That's probably why Sasha looked so happy - she's thinking puppy.
Barak done it.
but though we all cried tears of joy tonight, this means something HUGE for the blacks in our country and around the world.
I won't speak for other black people, but this is very true for me & my family. All the way over here in Oz. Words cannot describe how moved I am by this election result.
Obama is the right man at the right time.
About a beautiful family. Throughout this campaign, I was mystified, absolutely dumbstruck, that anyone could see Barack and Michelle Obama on television or in magazines and not see warmth, intelligence, humor and love. It simply ooozes out of them. As we say in my family- they have a good twinkle. Add those darling, smart, well behaved girls to the mix and you have one first class first family. If Barack and Michelle raise up this country half as well as they have made a family together, we will be in a very, very good place. I watched the TV tonight with close friends and family, tears of joy streaming down my face, because I am so, so proud that our country ignored the naysayers, the fearmongers and the most angry and abusive among us and reached out to the better angels of our nature and to hope. God Bless the Obama family and keep them safe.
