Xanthro: "Already in 2009, Salon has had people post about Jews, [offensive phrases omitted]"
The combined total on salon.com for any of these phrases is 47 hits in Google (not including your post, which should show up soon). Most are pre-2009, dating back to 1999, and virtually all of them are from pro-Israel posters who are complaining that critics of Israel say these things. I don't have the time or interest to analyze this in more detail, perhaps someone else may want to do that, but skimming through them I didn't see a single hit from a critic who wasn't an obvious childish troll. This kind of slander doesn't really help your viewpoint.
Those "longer range Iranian missiles" don't seem to be hitting much of anything. I'm sure, however, that living under their threat is no joke. But, personally, if I had to choose I would prefer living under their threat than endure what the Gazans have had to. And, by the way, how did they get the Iranian missiles into Gaza through closed borders?
Finaly, for the Israeli government to say that they are only banning foreign reporters in Gaza because they don't want to deal with "distortions" is facile at best and very convienent too. The press can get any number of things wrong, but if there are enough reporters from different outlets with different politics and slants, then distortions can be unmasked and set straight. So, it makes me wonder if it is the truth that the Israeli government really doesn't want to have to deal with.
well well well, what do we have here in the comment section of another excellent Gary Kamiya article?
The usual Israel-first keyboard warriors have crawled out to spread their propaganda while accusing everyone who disagrees with their racist rants of "Jew Hating". Talk about Deja Vu!
Wallaby, how is that AG complaint coming along? America-hater JohnathonFromTeleviv, sockpuppeteer Zolotus Newberryfeet, Xanthro. The gang is all here, ready to put the security of Israel over the security of the United States, on the US Taxpayer's dime to boot! Talk about chutzpah!
It looks like they have found a new home to spread their filth.
Gary has problems with Jews?
It sounds more like you have problems with Gary.
Iran, the aspiring nuclear weapons holders that they are, sure make some sorry rockets that they sell/donate/lend/rent to Hamas. I mean seriously, gasoline and fertilizer as a propellant?!? All that smuggling over hundreds of miles for home-made do-it-yourself rockets?! And these people want nuk-leer weapons? If that's the best they can do I say let them have it!!! - go right ahead, build all the nuk-leer weapons u want. - LOL
Also, the talk about a two state solution is BS. Actions speak louder than words. You don't continue to build settlements in the West Bank and re-occupy Gaza (which ultimately will be the result of the current crisis) if you really want a two state solution. Those actions suggest that despite the talk of a two state solution the facts are that Israel is doing everything it can to undermine that idea.
Therefore, I agree with what another poster suggested: The true goal of Israel is to continue to perpetuate and stoke the specter of the raving terrorist by creating an environment for the Palestinians wherein reconciliation becomes impossible thus ensuring a significant minority of the population will remain militant which, in turn, would allow Israel to justify its holocaust-like treatment of the Palestinians.
In that same vein, Israel will continue to undermine any legitimate leadership entities of the Palestinians in the divide and conquer strategy that it has been using since 1948. Its what is happening now with Hamas and Fatah. It does not take a genius to know before hand that any attack on Hamas in Gaza will make Fatah weaker. If Fatah is weaker, and given that Hamas is branded as a terrorist organization, then the "Peace" process goes nowhere while settlement building and land grabbing, etc. continue unabated.
The solution is obvious to those paying attention. But its easier said than done.
Time is precious, and I've been spending too much of it here lately. I thought that by presenting a pro-Israel, pro-West viewpoint I could make a small contribution to the public debate on a few important issues and influence people (mostly on the left in the US) who might in turn influence the incoming Obama administration, about whom some people were worried regarding Middle East policy.
It took me a while to understand the importance of Obama's appointments, and his recent statement on Iran. I am now much less worried about the future.
The anti-Israel, anti-West, lefty wacko, and neo-Nazi types who hang out on these boards are still not even close to having a voice in the US government. Their sole effect is to provide a few laughs (at their expense) to those of us who value life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
But there are better ways to be entertained.
And so, though I will miss the camraderie of a few of you, for now, I bid you all Lehitraot (so long), and most importantly, Shalom.
I have to disagree that Israel (or at least the views you represent in Israel) is truly a friend of America, or the West, for the following reasons:
1) Western democracies are rooted in the universal concept of equal citizenship. In Israel, equal citizenship is not an option since Israel was created to be a Jewish state. In Israel, leaders openly discuss the Palestinian "demographic threat" (Palestinians constitute half the population under Israel's control) contemplating options that would leave the Palestinians as second class citizens, at best, or as a target for extermination and ethnic cleansing, at worst.
2) Israel, with the war of Gaza being the latest example, has shown a tendency to use indiscriminate and excessive force in its wars causing a horrendous civilian death toll. The pictures of dead children - which we are spared in North America - have inflamed public opinion in much of the world. Due to America's close relationship with Israel, America is viewed as a culprit in Israel's wars which creates ill will toward us in much of the world.
3) Israel and the neocons were instrumental in the deception that led to the Iraq war. They continue to push for endless war.
4) Your dismissive attitude toward the significance of Israel's colonies in the West Bank on the peace process - which has been shared by all of Israel's governments - shows that Israel is not ready for peace. When it comes to the peace process, Israeli leaders have been more interested in the process (as a delay tactic allowing them to create more facts on the ground ) than in peace.
