The Israel rules

America's support of the Gaza attack proves once again that our mythical image of Israel has blinded us to its faults -- a myopia with devastating consequences for both countries.

Gary back from his mountain biking trip to the Sierra Nevadas

Fresh with a repeat of the last 25 columns he wrote excoriating the Jews.

Excuse the typos its late here. Corrected below.

...they are dazzled by Obama, those NYT writers as he is a superstar, legend, powerful man, etc etc and the Palestinians are just collateral damge in "The War On Terror" which incidentally Obama subscribes to. Kamiya has a point, but only a point. The question is, who is listening? Is the new supersatr president? If he is he ain't saying much!

Period?

It's not so simple. It's heartening to see though that there is more discussion of and notice given to the fact that tactics of militant aggression and vengeance are not accomplishing anything for either side in this issue.

Personally I think the Holocaust resulted in a case of massive PTSD and anxiety which has gone essentially untreated, even though putting energy and resources into creating the state of Israel seemed at the time to be a constructive, forward thinking resolution to the Holocaust nightmare. Unfortunately though it's turns out it's not much different than building a new home on a site ruled by all the old violent habits.

That area of the world has been in a state of war for thousands of years. It's still exactly the same as the old testament stories, except now the weapons are much more destructive. Unless some truly radical thinking and action is embraced, such as a complete moratorium on the past, as certain other areas of the world have had to embrace for the sake of survival, war will continue there forever. It has become part of the culture and people are willing to sacrifice their children, on both sides.

The actions being taken now by Israel will create many many more suicide bombers and the mutual hatreds will only escalate.

The 400-450 Palestinians executed by Hamas in Gaza in the last few months?

Gary is blind to that. In fact Gary is blind to the suffering of everyone. He, like Greenwald is only interested in promoting their own Jew hatred.

Most of the Arab press this side of al Manar or the most violent nonsense gushing out the Muslim Brotherhood, puts the blame for this squarely on the Hamas. Which puts Gary, Glenn and the rest of Salon so far off the path that literally the only people they speak for are the Hamas spokesmen who openly call for the slitting of every Jew throat in the world.

Which we kind of knew already, it's just important to point that out.

The blame lies with Hamas

Hamas is getting exactly what it wanted. For years it based itself in civilian enclaves in Gaza and from those points, launched thousands of rockets into Israel's southern cities. No country, including the USA, would stand by while terrorists across its border launched missiles at its populace.

Hamas was and is a terrorist organization, and when the Palestinians elected them their leaders, Hamas continued to engage in terrorist acts against Israel. It finally provoked Israel into this assault, and the Palestinians are paying a terrible price both for their mistake in electing Hamas, and for Hamas' bloody obsession with destroying Israel, regardless of the doom they have knowingly brought to the people they allegedly care about.

Israel has God and history on its side

When the Jews came back from Egypt they found people living in the land they considered their own. According to the Bible God gave the Jews permission to kill every man, woman and child living there so they could posses the land. Israel is merely continuing a long tradition.

as lefty anti-occupation pro-peace Jew, this is stupidest analogy ever

The big lie of this analogy is complete and total non-equivalence of Jews continuous presence in Palestine/Israel and being the last prior independent state in the area, compared to the complete non-presence of Europeans in pre-cotnact north America. This is the sort of phony equivalence that does come clsoe to anti-Jewish antismitism.

Last independent state in the area was Hashemite kingdom overthreown by Rome.

There has never been an indepdendent Arab/palestinian state in the area. Has always been parft of larger empire until 1947-48.

There were always Jews living there, continuously from pre-history to present, including throughout Ottoman peiod.

According to Ottoman census, some areas within current Israel/Palestine had Jewish pluralities in 17th-19th centuries, even prior to Zionist movement of Jews back to area from Europe at turn of 20th century.

First crime was Arab countries non-recognistion of Israel in 1947-48, and vow to drive them all into the sea.

Second crime was the post-1967 occupation of West Bank & Gaza.

Third crime is that the only possible end-game remains two-state solutoion, based on a little bit more than Camp David II (more real complete contiguous Palestinian state) and a little bit less then Saudi Arab-league plan (no return).

But Kamya's piece is profoundly stupid.

Final Solution of the Arab Question - Endlösung der Arabfrage

Americans ignored the Holocaust 1933-45 so why should they wake up now. There is a "der Völkermord an den Arab" genocide of the Arab people going on now but who cares? Until the "new Nazis" build gas chambers Americans will continue their sleep. Israel is a state composed of Europeans not Semites and they inherited their love of power from Europe. Israelis are not of Palestine and do not have a legal or moral claim to Palestine. Ownership of real property cannot be obtained because someone else abandoned it but may be gained through Adverse Possession. Israelis abandoned Palestine long ago and cannot accept that the Arabs who stayed there own it by adverse possession. I feel sorry for all Arabs. Israel is armed to the teeth with an unknown number of nuclear weapons capable of turning the Middle East into glass.

Blaming the victtms and excusing the terrorists

What is wrong with Israel??

Don't the Israelis know that they are supposed to sit back and do nothing when six thousand rockets are launched against their schools, homes, hospitals, supermarkets, cities and towns?

Don't the Israelis know that when Hamas sends suicide bombers onto Israeli busses, into Israeli shopping malls and restaurants and supermarkets that the Israeli men, women, and children that are being blown to pieces should die without protest from the Israeli government and people?

How dare Israel have the nerve to want to protects its citizens from terrorists bent on its destruction?

By the rationale posted by some commentators on this website if you strike back at terrorists hell bent on your destruction, people who celebrate the death of every Israeli child they murder, then by striking back at the terrorists you are guilty of human rights violations. Let these fools move to Sderot and Ashkelon and endure the daily rocket attacks on THEIR families and see how they respond. These same leftists criticize Israel for protecting its citizens and blame America for 911. I guess Hitler and Stalin could be excused as well for the millions they killed. After all, Britain and America destroyed, not bombed, but destroyed entire cities in WWII. The left always blames the victims of terror and never the perpetrators.
