  • PALESTINE? NO SUCH COUNTRY. EVER.

Gary Kamiya and many other Israel haters fail to establish and acknowledge one true fact in all of their vitriolic writings: never, not once, not in the history of human civilization, has there ever been a sovereign nation named "Palestine".

Palestine is to the Middle East what neighborhoods like Harlem or Queens or Hells Kitchen is in New York; what Galewood or Albany Park or Hyde Park are in Chicago; what Watts or South Central are in Los Angeles. They're neighborhoods within cities. They are not cities unto themselves.

Israel has been a sovereign nation since before the Old Testament was written before the time of Moses.

The only countries in the modern world who have attempted to establish a free standing and democratic Palestinian country of, for, and by the Palestinian people have been Israel and the United States. For this effort, both countries have been vilified, spat upon, and terrorized by the jihadists who use Palestinians as cannon fodder in their never ending war of hatred.

Until and unless radical Islamic jihadism is rebuked by all Muslims everywhere, nothing will change. Unfortunately, the goal of radical Islamic jihadism is for all of us to die.

  • You know Maureen and merelymortal,

You should cease and desist in your incessant whining that the only reason the poor arabs are being run over rough shod by the Israelis is because of US support. The Arabs receive and have received support from the Levant, all Arab (Aryan in the case of Iran) nations and most importantly, from Russia. Their pusillanimity, their inferior fighting skills, and their tendency to shoot off their mouths with out the personal courage to back up their words is the reason they have lost and will continue to lose in their attempt to destroy Israel. Let their fundamental strategies (suicide bombers, hiding amidst civilians and leaders that flee the battlefield at the first sign of battle) expose them for the cowardly rabble they are.

I don't understand the west's obsession over some preceived oppression in Palestine. What have the Arabs done to endear anyone to their cause, the annual riots and arson in France, the 7/7 bombings?, the Madrid bombings?, 9/11?, perhaps the recent terror attacks in Mumbai? Time to wake up and recognize what this is really all about. Hamas will not be welcoming to Shia muslims let alone christians, zorasters, buddhist, if they would ever consolidate control of Palestine. And why the hell is Hezbollah sitting this one out if the cause is so righteous!

  • @Malkatraz

By retaliating to Hamas rocket launches, the IDF plays into their hands by strengthening their position as "brave defenders of the Palestinian people" ... the violence and destruction unleashed on Gaza ... does nothing but perpetuate the cycle of violence

All governments have a responsibility to protect their citizens. How long should the Israeli government wait to respond? A day? A week? A month? And what would you do if the Hamas don't get bored of that shit?

Israel must make concrete moves that will sideline Hamas ... by ceasing construction on occupied land in the West Bank, and by beginning the evacuation and removal of illegal settlements

Malkatraz, it's hard not to lose patience with you. Israel has gone through several traumatic waves of removal of settlements, including all settlements, with tens of thousands of settlers, in Gaza. Did you forget???

You reply by saying that all Palestinians are fundamentalist muslims

No, you've falsified my words, and they weren't that complicated. I wrote:

"...you need to acknowledge that a fundamentalist Moslem Palestinian doesnt' think like you. If you don't, you can't say you really respect their culture. Israel WITHDREW COMPLETELY from Gaza. Their reaction was the Israelis are weak, so we can abuse them. And they have been doing just that for years."

  • @Malkatraz

Please excuse the delay in replying to you, like everyone else I have other things going on in my life that sometimes pull me away from the keyboard.

  • @markandkari

And why the hell is Hezbollah sitting this one out if the cause is so righteous!

Because the rest of the Lebanese are still smarting from the beating they took from the IDF. And Hezbollah doesn't have complete control of Lebanon. Yet.

  • @markandkari cont'd

Looking at this from a practical point of view, it seems that retaliating with massive force works better that giving back territory.

  • The Israel rules

It is about time to read about the true reality of the oppressive and violent policies of Israel towards the Palestinians. Israel is a country which founded itself on slaughter, murder and invasion, throwing in 1948 hundreds of thousands of Palestinians out of their land, their homes and into a desert without food, possessions or even water. However, this article does not stress enough the horrors of occupation and oppression that Palestinians have endured for the past 60 years, imposed by Israel, country that I personally label as the number one terrorist state in the world. Its leaders have consistently shown a complete disregard for Palestinians'lives and comtempt for their plight, separating families with walls of barbed wires, forcing them to meet by these same walls, surrounded by Israeli forces, and unable to hold one another. Nothing is more dangerous than people who have been deprived of their possessions, their freedom and even their dignity, because they have nothing left to loose. We also need to remind of Israel's devious ways, when for years, while supposedly "negotiating" a peace agreement and a return of Palestinians'lands never stopped and even facilitated more Jewish settlements on the same lands they were supposed to return.

It is about time that justice is served to the Palestinians. Israel should comply with the UN resolution that required its return to the pre 1967 war borders, resolution that Israel has defied for 30 years, amidst the world's amazing indifference.

To conclude: do not, and I repeat, do not confuse Zionism with Judaism. This confusion is intentionally created in the public mind by Israel's propaganda machine, because it turns a political stand into a racism one, which IT IS NOT. There is nothing to blame on the Jewish people, but everything to blame on Israel's governmental policies towards the Palestinians.
