The Israel rules

America's support of the Gaza attack proves once again that our mythical image of Israel has blinded us to its faults -- a myopia with devastating consequences for both countries.

Israel Rules, UK Rules?

I can think of a rather less fantastic scenario to illustrate Mr Kamiya's point in his excellent article than his "thought experiment". Imagine British governments dealing with the IRA threat in Ulster the way that Israeli governments have dealt with Palestinian terrorism and simple resistance. Imagine the families of IRA men having their homes blown up by British soldiers as punishment for terrorist acts those men have committed or Irish Catholics being forced to live in enclosed communities where they must go through the daily humiliation of checkpoints or endure mockery or worse from their Protestant neighbours, who are materially better served in all respects than them. Imagine the British army, in reaction to the inevitable IRA military attacks on Catholic communities, bombing by land, sea, and air sections of Belfast and Londonderry and then sending in tanks and heavily armed infantry, in the process killing hundreds of innocent Irish Catholics after a several months long policy of severely limiting the import into their communities of material goods, food, and medical supplies because of IRA attacks. And through it all Her Majesty's Government would say we have no quarrel with the ordinary Irish Catholics of Ulster, we grieve at their deaths, we have taken every possible action to try to prevent civilian casualties, the IRA are to blame for what is happening to their people. What do you think the reaction of the world would be, what do you think the reaction of the US would be? Not likely what it has been to the actions of Israel.

Wallaby

aw, whatsa matter, tough guy? Did I get under your thin skin?

So how is that AG complaint coming along?

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 10:23 AM

be careful, maureenodonnell

Wallaby might use your posts for evidence in his "hate speech" complaint to the CA Attorney General. Expect a letter from Abe Foxman shortly.

Wallaby still won't tell us why he has such contempt for the United States Constitution, especially the first amendment. As a Zionist, like his Zionist neocon brethren, his indifference to the security of American citizens in his support of Zionism is a given, but why does he also hate free speech? Must be a Zioclown thing.

Thank you, SMac ...

I was about to put my fist through my monitor, after reading Amy Tuteur's post. I have had it up to here with Israel acting the bully and crying "victim". I'm ashamed to be a Jew, watching the news. Talk about being a light unto the nations! Guess Isaiah was referring to the light of those phosphorus bombs.

@ jonathan

Trying to reason with you is like trying to reason with a stagnant pond. You state that I'm missing your point about Hamas not wanting peace, yet I have stated in successive posts that Hamas doesn't want peace! By retaliating to Hamas rocket launches, the IDF plays into their hands by strengthening their position as "brave defenders of the Palestinian people".

The whole point of my posts here today has been to illustrate out how counter productive the violence and destruction unleashed on Gaza is, and how it does nothing but perpetuate the cycle of violence. You reply by saying that all Palestinians are fundamentalist muslims, unwilling to enter into a dialogue resulting in a lasting peace.

It appears to me, as illustrated by your various posts, that the Palestinians are not the only ones with inflexible fundamentalists in their midst. You seem to be taking a perverse pleasure in the IDF's display of overwhelming firepower unleashed on a largely defenceless civilian population.

Whats the current score, 650 Palestinian dead, 10 Israeli? Or do Israeli deaths count for more points in the sick, twisted videogame you seem to perceive this horrendous situation as?

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 10:59 AM

My dear Wallaby ,

The IDF and the Mossad have been killing their leadership for over 20 years now.

Of course if they ever return the favor to your side they must be evil terrorists. Probably should kill them all first, just to be sure.

Good luck with sleeping tonight.

@ liberal uber alles

To follow your logic (using the word extremely loosely) we should all just kill ourselves to cleanse the world of evil and injustice.

You go first, I promise we'll all go after you...

Liberal Uber Alles

Gosh, you really hurt my feelings.

Another cowardly 10 post troll projecting mean words. How original.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 11:41 AM

And of course it isn't about me...

It's all about Israel. I'm just some stupid cracker American goy that is expected to be a good little Zionist supporting neocon by putting the security of Israel over the security of the citizens of the United States. That is really what trolls like you and wallaby are all about, convincing brainwashed Americans to spill blood, bankrupt their country, and die serving the agenda of Zionists that could care less about the consequences of their policies, i.e. dead bankrupt Americans.

Now, keep asking questions about what is good for Israel and what Israel should do while knowing full well that the solutions you support put the United States at risk.

CanSoc frames the issue with a bald lie

I can think of a rather less fantastic scenario to illustrate Mr Kamiya's point in his excellent article than his "thought experiment". Imagine British governments dealing with the IRA threat in Ulster the way that Israeli governments have dealt with Palestinian terrorism and simple resistance. Imagine the families of IRA men having their homes blown up by British soldiers as punishment for terrorist acts those men have committed

The IRA never, not once, fired rockets from schools and hospitals. Hamas does. Hamas' charter calls for every Palestinian mother to raise their child as a warrior and prepare them for fighting, and rejects the very concept of making a deal for peace. (http://www.mideastweb.org/hamas.htm)

To say that Israel is bombing homes as punishment is ludicrous. In fact, they've warned civilians to leave the specific areas they were going to bomb, and even by Hamas accounts, have killed far more soldiers than civilians, a fact that undoubtedly disappoints Hamas, who cravenly use their fellow Palestinians as cannon fodder, and who have killed and maimed dozens of supposed Israeli collaborators over the past few days.

Some might be tempted to describe the use of human shields as cowardly, by Hamas, but such an interpretation is quite removed from the facts. It is instead a deliberate design to provoke Israel into killing innocents, and is evil and fratricidal by intent.
