The Israel rules

America's support of the Gaza attack proves once again that our mythical image of Israel has blinded us to its faults -- a myopia with devastating consequences for both countries.

The letters thread is now closed.

AEB3

Then why doesn't Israel just nuke the whole place with a couple of its many illegal nukes? Will that satisfy your bloodlust?

Nice little dance

Lovely how the author had to dance around calling Israel what it really is. I understand, of course. You cannot have a professional career in the U.S. and call out the Jews for theri atrocities, you'd suddenly find yourself out of work. Israel has far more than just a lobby. They're pulling the reins.

@Chris Sinnard's rants

Hey Chris,

I'm proud that I tried to give the Palestinians the benefit of the doubt then. And I'm proud of my stance on Hamas now.

It's called keeping an open mind. Check it out.

@Then why doesn't Israel just nuke the whole place?

True, Israel could utterly destroy Gaza.

But we haven't. Keep that in mind next time some asshole screams "genocide" in regards to Israel. We could. We haven't.

In fact, all these years the Gazans have been shooting rockets at Israeli civilians, we've been supplying them with food, fuel, etc. Even during the current operation. We even supply them with the electricity they use to make the missiles they shoot at the Ashkelon electric power plant!

America's Support

I admire your courage. This article is very informative. I hope our leaders can benefit from it for the sake of entire humanity.

Thank you

Best regards

The Israel rules

What pap! Nothing mythical about 6,300 bombs aimed at civilian populations in three years. The poor defenseless palestinains are getting a perfectly proportional response for their hatred and contempt of Israel and their continued cowardly war on Israel. To call the Israelis occupiers is false, they pulled out of Gaza in 2005. Since then Hamas has shown that they can't rule politically and their only clout with their people is a claim is to wipe Israel off the map. Until the Palestinians recognize Israel's right to exist, until they have sworn an end to hostilities, until they have proven they have left their barbarian ways behind and entered the world of civilized nations there should be no talk of a two state system.

This article is worthless

Just one example:

To punish these people for choosing a government it considers a terrorist organization, Washington imposes a harsh blockade...

WTF? Israel didn't impose restrictions on the movement of goods into Gaza because Gazans elected a group of terrorists to lead them, but because those terrorists used Gaza as a base from which to terrorize Israel. Or did Mr. Kamiya miss the part (going on for years, but accelerated under Hamas) about the rockets being shot at Israeli cities???

"Put a beggar on horseback and he'll ride to hell".

This used to be a saying which applied to someone who emerged from poverty and began to swank around, putting on airs and graces, looking down on others as if born to the royal purple. This saying now has much wider application when you consider the attitude of Israelis and their frantic supporters in America to those obviously inferior Palestinians. Who put the beggar on horseback? That's perfectly obvious. Who is encouraging the one-time beggar to ride to hell? That's clear also and hell-on-earth may be the final outcome.

I see that Jonathan in Tel Aviv has persisted in mangling the truth overnight but it's better than mangling children sheltering from the war gods in a UN school. No major or minor European country is backing the Israeli blitzkreig and Jonathan cannot name one but is pleased as Punch that Saudi Arabia and Egypt are doing so - or so he says. I cannot speak confidently about either of these Arab countries but I do know they don't have a free electorate. I also know that the leader of the attack on America on 9/11 was Mohammad Atta, an Egyptian. There were no Palestinians or Iraqis on those planes but Iraq and Palestine have borne the brunt of Israeli/American rage. The lies that were brazenly told to the UN by Colin Powell, the Bush and Cheney pipsqueak, have already gone down in history. It was all about "regime change" and nothing to do with "weapons of mass destruction". Meir Shitsreet, minister for Israeli internal security, let the cat out of the bag last night when interviewed on television. This ferocious foray into Gaza is also about "regime change". So now we know that it's the well-known story of America toppling any regime of which it disapproves - be it in Central America, South America and, more urgently and at greater cost in lives, the Middle East. The United States has huge domestic problems of its own but continues to meddle in a lethal manner in the fanaticism of the Middle East, inevitably with dire consequences for its own citizens or quasi-citizens.

@maureen: "Name one"

Germany

("Germany sides with Israel over Gaza escalation")

What, don't you read the news before you go shooting off your mouth?

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 03:36 AM

Germany is backing Israel's murderous campaign in Gaza, according to Jonathan in Tel Aviv.

That's news to me alright. I have no intention of getting my news on Europe from the American media or blog-sites, after the blizzard of lies that were told prior to and during the invasion of Iraq.

Jonathan in Tel Aviv, I've heard that New York is the "city that never sleeps" but you are outdoing that particular metropolis in your achievement. You and your Hydra-headed co-mates seem to be in great nick to be able to keep up this barrage of insults and calumny. You're not short of water and food, that's certain. Anyway, Hercules (Greek, not Israelite) vanquished the many-headed snake just as world opinion, shocked by the actions of a State's army in Gaza, is quelling the blood-thirstiness of Livni, Barak and that fellow with the cute name of Bibi, The "conquering heroes" have been called to heel; a three-hour halt to the assault is beginning today.

You obviously think highly of the Germans, the Egyptians and the Saudis. You don't seem to know your elbow from your arse so you'd probably be a little more clear-minded if you got more sleep instead of banging on the keyboard in a delirium of inchoate fury.

Good Point

To Maureen O'Donnell

I have been reading recent posts and I wish to commend your reply to the poster from Tel Aviv. I would also like to recommend to you reading two insightful op-ed columns published on The Guardian - http://www.guardian.co.uk.

I am referring to Jonathan Freedland’s "Gaza after a Hamas rout will be an even greater threat to Israel" and Avi Shlaim’s "How Israel brought Gaza to the brink of humanitarian catastrophe". None of these authors could be suspected of being anti-Semite, but no matter someone will tell us that they are not ‘real Jews’, or some idiocy of that sort.
