The Israel rules

America's support of the Gaza attack proves once again that our mythical image of Israel has blinded us to its faults -- a myopia with devastating consequences for both countries.

My dear Xanthro,

OH YEAH???

My belief system is WEIRDER THAN YOURS!

Genesis is backwards, - Apotheosis of the Archons.

Stretch and reach - Thunder Perfect Mind.

I just don't like the idea of a civilian population having war waged on it over such bogus reasons.

You insist on making this an issue of race and religion when it is one of war and warfare against civilians. Thus I cannot help but think there is something wrong with the way your mind has been programmed. Bombing civilians is NOT COOL!

Almost there EatingRaul

I'll actually agree that I don't think Hamas is hiding behind civilians per se.

In fact, they seem to be accurately reporting their loses and not trying to pretend they are civilians.

The problem is as you've written.

The Gaza strip area is 139 sqm. Its 1.5 million residents are actually crammed into a much smaller areas, mostly incredibly densely populated refugee camps. The Gaza strip can actually be likened to a few sardine cans piled on top of one another. Shelling or attacking Gaza from the air is similar to throwing a hand grenade into a small room crammed with dozens of people where heavy casualties are guaranteed. Because of its great density, any military attack on Gaza will kill civilians even if the attackers don't actually want to kill civilians,

I'll even go farther and state that Hamas can't really fight from non-civilian areas because they really aren't that many, and it would be futile. They'd instantly be destroyed, and nobody fights at such a disadvantage.

Plus, unlike what has sometimes happened, Hamas doesn't seem to be killing civilians in order to up the civilian death count. (I'm not saying Hamas itself has done this)

While Hamas does benefit politically from displaying civilian deaths, it appears that they are working to reduce the number of civilians killed and wounded.

But here you've lost your way

and the terrorist state of Israel certainly had no intention of sparing the Gaza civilians, fondly referred to by Israeli soldiers and civilians as "djukim" in the Hebrew vernacular, meaning cockroaches.

I'm quite sure that many Israelis have used such terms and worse, but you know that Israel is trying to spare Gaza civilians, because otherwise the death toll would be much much higher.

Even if only believe that Israel is doing so because civilian deaths hurt them politically, you know as a former IDF member that if Israel were not concerned about civilian deaths the number would be far far greater.

Hamas, the PLO and Iran are on the right track

We must eliminate the Zionist project by any all means necessary at all costs. If that means the use of WMD then ok. Jews out peace in.

Wasting time with teenagers

It's usually futile, like arguing with infants.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother, especially when no point has been made at all.

I just don't like the idea of a civilian population having war waged on it over such bogus reasons.

So, does that mean you like the idea of waging war on a civilian population over legitimate reasons? What reasons would those be?

You insist on making this an issue of race and religion when it is one of war and warfare against civilians. Thus I cannot help but think there is something wrong with the way your mind has been programmed. Bombing civilians is NOT COOL!

-- something stinks

You're the one with the Jewish problem who keeps bringing up race and religion, not I.

For someone who claims they don't like war waged against civilians you don't seem to mind thousands of rockets launched at civilian areas.

Your "concern" seems to be limited to non-Jewish deaths, and then only if the deaths are caused by Jews.

You think there is something wrong with how my mind is programmed because you are a child, and that is how children think.

amy tuteur

U keep harping back to the fact that the US does not give back the land to the Native Americans. There is a big difference. In a sense, the US has "given" back the land. Native Americans have the same rights as any other US citizen. They are free to own land, free to vote etc. While this does not make up for that fact that we have systematically destroyed their culture, we are not preventing them from living and prospering as many Indian tribes are now doing. Look at the success they have had with their casinos. This cannot be said of the Israelis and note, that I did not say "jews" lest you try to label me an antisemite. U seem to keep missing the point. No one is applauding the actions of the Palestinians in terms of suicide bombings etc. What we are saying is when you oppress people, they will strike back. Stop oppressing people and u might get a favorable reaction. The Palestinians are the oppressed here and their land was taken from them. Right the wrong and you will have a different outcome.

Kamiya piece on Israel's latest invasion of Gaza

Thanks to Gary Kamiya for illustrating, in such a compelling way, the hypocrisy and moral bankruptcy of both U. S. and Israeli justifications for the invasion of Gaza.

The Canadian Governments response to the slaughter of Palestians hasn't been much better. The moral high ground has, apparently, been lost in Canada's unwillingness to risk angering Jewish voters in any way.

Yes, Israel has the right to protect itself. But the scope of its response to limited range rocket attacks is over the top.

I am tired of television footage of Israeli tanks, planes and helicopter gunships bombing Gaza back to the stone age. And I am even wearier of hearing the daily statistics of casualties and pictures of Palestinian children torn apart by Israeli bombs.

A challenge for President Elect Obama, indeed!

That last comment

was pure evil...it would not be tolerated in any other racial or ethnic discussion.

I have stated in another discussion that it is currently tres chic, uber urbane and oh so very P.C. to be anti-Israel...now I see it is not even considered shameful to say hate filled , vile things about Jews. Deja Vu
