The Israel rules

America's support of the Gaza attack proves once again that our mythical image of Israel has blinded us to its faults -- a myopia with devastating consequences for both countries.

wrong analogy

If you are going to invoke the US-Amerind relations as an analogy to the Israel-Gaza conflict, you'd need to fantasize a situation in which the Navajo Nation (or choose any tribe living on a reservation) rejects the treaty signed many decades ago, and shoots rockets daily into Sidonia. Should the US renegotiate the original treaty with the tribe? Or, perhaps, send in armed forces to eliminate the threat to the citizens of Sidonia? Most US citizens would insist on actions to protect it's citizens. The citizens of Israel expect no less from it's nations leaders

stop projecting, Wallaby

Why do you like slavery, racism and bigotry, Chris?

YOU'RE the Zionist here, not me.

@WinSmith

WinSmith: "I noticed at no point in your article do you note that Israel pulled out of the Gaza Strip in 2005."

And I noticed that at no point in your letter did you note why Israel pulled out of the Gaza Strip in 2005.

Dov Weisglass, a then-top advisor Ariel Sharon, explained that they did it to freeze the peace process and to "revent the establishment of a Palestinian state":

"The disengagement is actually formaldehyde. It supplies the amount of formaldehyde that's necessary so that there will not be a political process with the Palestinians. ...
"[T]he rest will not be dealt with until the Palestinians turn into Finns. That is the significance of what we did. The significance is the freezing of the political process. And when you freeze that process you prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state and you prevent a discussion about the refugees, the borders and Jerusalem. Effectively, this whole package that is called the Palestinian state, with all that it entails, has been removed from our agenda indefinitely."

And so it goes.

When the al Aqsa brigade was blowing up school buses in Jerusalem

You'd think, based on Salon's columnists it happened on another planet. Two reasons for that 1) It was Israelis and 2) in many cases a goodly number of killed and maimed were Israeli Arabs and no one worries about Arab on Arab violence. So let's no try to fool one another with weepy handwringing about the violence perpetrated on children. Or at least qualify it please. "Some" children.

Sinnard the hypocrite

He accuses (much more) thoughtful commenters of spewing talking points and the inability to think for themselves. Repeatedly, ad-nauseum, and without even a hint of irony. He never addresses their arguments, merely asserting that he's heard them all before, and he doesn't have to, and besides, you hate America, so why should he?

He accuses everyone who shows anything but blood-libel and contempt for the entire nation of Israel of being a traitor who hates Americans. He foams at the mouth speaking of Israel's perceived misdeeds, but when asked what Israel should do, he hypocritically claims not to care at all.

He has provided no substance to the discussion, preferring instead to demonize his opponents with unwarranted ad-hominem attacks. He is, in other words, a troll.

Just let him growl from under his bridge and keep walking.

Imprecise analogy between Indians and Palestinians.

>> The Indians never posed a serious threat to American settlers, nor did they have neighboring allies who launched an all-out war on the U.S. in 1776. <<

Actually, the Indians on the Great Plains, and in the Minnesota Woodlands, did pose a serious threat to the settlers. That's why the government treated with the Indians, who reserved subsistence rights (still extant) in exchange for ceding their lands. Of course, the US promptly broke nearly all of the treaties it signed with the Indian nations.

Still no answer on the Chavez question

So now not only is speech to suppressed but the very thoughts and feelings behind it must be purged as well. It must be fascinating to be one of you. I suspect it's like being a robot or a bug.

"The flight of the bumble-bee" is infintely more attractive than the concerted efforts of people

on this thread trying to stifle criticism of Israel's conduct in Gaza. The droning of Win Smith and Jonathan in Tel Aviv, as well as countless others, lacks both originality and verity. I was waiting to see if anyone from Hollywood would enter the fray because the wackadoodles here don't have enough "oomph".

Before I buzz off, please note that Jonathan in Tel Aviv scuttled away from my question about the support of "major" European countries for Israel. He must be having a sniff of his smelling-salts at my audacity,as I'm from a "minor" European country. Size counts, apparently.

Translation: WHAA WHAA!! HE WONT PLAY THE GAME WITH ME AND GO BACK AND FORTH ARGUING ABOUT HOW TO FRAME THE ISSUE INSTEAD OF WHY IT IS BAD FOR AMERICA!!! INSTEAD ALL HE DOES IS CALL ME NAMES WHAA WHAA!!

And I care, I care that my taxdollars go to fund Zionism, and that it will lead to dead Americans. But you'd rather talk about "who started it" by regurgitating talking points and demonizing The Other. Again:

Propaganda often presents facts selectively (thus lying by omission) to encourage a particular synthesis, or gives loaded messages in order to produce an emotional rather than rational response to the information presented. The desired result is a change of the cognitive narrative of the subject in the target audience to further a political agenda.

THAT IS YOU.

Huge Chavez and Jews Renoucing Israel

I see that Hugo Chavez had demanded that all Venezuelan Jews renounce Israel

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1102ap_lt_venezuela_israel.html

I thought the antizionists believed or claimed to believe that there were two groups: 1) Jews (some of them are ok) and 2) Zionists (worst Nazi scum of the earth, should be put down like dogs)? Why is your hero no longer making that distinction and demanding the equivalent of a loyalty oath? I wonder what the 21st century version of the Yellow Star is? We'll get to find out soon.

-- Wallaby

Your linked article doesn't support what you are saying. I'm no fan of Chavez by any stretch of the imagination, but your link says he said, "Now I hope that the Venezuelan Jewish community speaks out against this barbarism. Do it. Don't you strongly reject all acts of persecution?"

That's not asking Jews to renounce Israel.

Nor did I see anything that suggested a loyalty oath.

Is your link correct?
